Well, I see I am the first one back. Most the guys are staying over and are flying right now as I type this.

Saturday was a great time! The Revvers were there, as well as several other folks who either just happened to go to Rabbit that day or perhaps were aware there was a 'gathering planned'. I don't know the particulars, but the pit lane was huge! It involved lots of walking back and forth to clear frequencies before turning on.

The weather was warm, sunny, sky was a cloudless blue and visibility unlimited. Except when the dirt bikers were kicking up dust clouds. The wind was harsh again though. Pretty steady at about 15 mph gusting to 20.

There was the electric contingent headed up by Troy-RCU and Mark F. And a whole bunch of other electric flyers, I believe were from a club called the San Diego Electric Flyers. World class electric race planes. They are so fast they are unreal. The tiny electric planes are difficult to see. Mark F. told me that when racing them you are inside the 'circle and flying them around you so they are easier to see. But 'fun flying' in a wide open area like Rabbit makes them hard to keep an eye on them. The larger plane like Mark's F3D are about as easy to see as any other r/c plane but the speed of these things, especially going downwind is just nutz! The sound they make is wicked too. Kind of like a jet, but not really. It was great to meet Troy-RCU and the other electric fella's.

There was a small group of large gas model race planes there. A big P-51 Reno type racer, a Double Vision bipe, and a Pitt's like biplane. These things are loud!. The P-51 couldn't stay running so it did not fly. The bipe climbed out like a homesick angel. No lack of power there!

The nitro clan was at the far other end of the line. Vicman got the "Long Distance Award" for coming out from North Carolina to So Cal. Way to go Vic!!! It was a pleasure meeting you in person! Vic did Yeoman duty helping out everyone by being pit man, plane launcher, plane retriever, and general go getter. What a guy!

For me personally, it was my reintroduction to r/c flying after an extended layoff. Razor-RCU did the maiden flight of my F-20 for me. Thanks Razor!! I maidened my 'Rascalnator' even though the wind was a little extreme for this plane. Only problem I had was after landing, trying to turn around on the ground to return to the pits the wind blew my plane over on its back. Did it the second flight too. Third flight it threw the prop off and I had a loooooong walk to pick it up. Vicman did the second flight on the F-20 and then I finally took it up. I am happy to report that the airplane flies extremely well and it survived to fly again another day.

Buddude:

Alley Cat, Shoestring, F-20, F-16. He flew them all and the F-16 is a sight to behold! What a gorgeous airplane. It must be the finest rendition of the Cermark F-16 I have seen. It flies fast and Buddude is an outstanding pilot. His Shoestring was a 'do-all' plane that he flew in combat, formation, and night flying!

Flyboy Dave:

Too many planes for me to remember! But some of the more notable ones were a Dragon Lady, and a King Cat like pusher. Dave also flew another plane in the combat derby.

Razor-RCU:

Avance, Magnum, Delta, Patriot, Playboy oldtimer. Razor is an outstanding pilot. This guy can fly, let me tall ya! He had several good saves when the wind was causing havoc. Anyway, his Magnum had some engine troubles but it did get a couple flights in. The Avance did it all. Combat, night flying, field plowing. When I was taking that long walk back with my Rascal I saw the Playboy oldtimer basically standing still way up high in the headwind. His delta (can't remember which brand name it is) was fun to watch doing those hyper rolls.

Cobratraxxas:

Diamond Dust. Well, actually Ghetto Dust. CT has an ingeniouos dolly system he uses to take off his DD and even Razor used it with the Magnum. CT's DD has quite a unique covering scheme. I'm not sure if it survived or not. I saw Cobratraxxas holding up the engine and pipe later in the day.

Dr. Speed:

Kevin had his Patriot and another low winger I do not know the name. He also participated in the combat derby. One thing about his plane, Magnum Powered, was it can hold an idle for about 10 minutes! More later.....

Speed Junkie:

'Chef' had a Kwik-Fly (great airplane btw) and some other planes whose names escape me. His Kwik-Fly was a participant in the combat derby.

Carnage Report:

Patriot - Dr. Speed lost his visual orientation and it went in. Too far out, carried away by the winds. Total write off.

Kwik-Fly - Speed Junkie had to nose it in to avoid a crowd of people and cars. Wind was blowing the plane, on approach, towards them. Motor and firewall ripped off. Repairable.

Diamond Dust - Cobratraxxas was holding up the motor and pipe. I presume the airframe is 'dust'.

Avance - Razor was dared to fly a low inverted pass. You do not dare a man like Razor! After plowing the desert floor with the fin, the canopy was toast. Still flying.

Alley Cat - Buddude was taking off when a major gust turned, and flipped the plane over. Minor damge, repairable.

Special Events:

Combat - The guys tied a 10' fishing line leader on their planes and then to that attched a 10' streamer. Then five of them got airborn and flew 'combat'. Twisting and turning, it was an amzing and hilarious site to see!!

Formation Flying - Four guys trying to fly as tight together as possible while doing laps. I don't think the Blue Angels have anything to worry about.

Night Flying - Buddude and Razor attached glow sticks to their airplanes. Yellow on the wingtips, red and green at the rear. The night was so dark, no moon, and nothing but stars in the sky. When airborne, you could not see any trace of an outline of an airplane. Only the glow sticks. These guys were flying rolls, inverted, climbing rolls, etc. It was spiritual. Watching these colored lights manuevering against a starry night sky was one of the most incredible things I have ever witnessed!

I'm sure they are doing it all again today!

I have over 300 photographs and 42 video segments I need to go through and process. Pic's and video will be forthcoming. Unfortunately, my camcorder really, really sucks at filming high speed r/c planes. It is extremely difficult to track them because of the small view through the eyepiece and the small aperture. I will be able to stitch something together but it will be more of a collage type thing. No complete beginning to end flights. And sadly, no night flying video. But I do have some of the combat and formation flying.

-Tom

Very good Report Kmot. Vicman it was a pleasure meeting you. Kmot you must of left before i lost my Shoestring in the night fly. Dont worry though im sure Vicman will let everybody in on the details. SpeedJunkie,as was last time the food was great. Razor I had a blast flying with you especialy at night. FlyboyDave, Dr Speed, Cobratraxxas, tro-rcu, markf. As was last time i had a blast flying and hanging out with you guys for a day, And i think it was Airbike your biplane flying was superb. The Most amazing thing about these kind of events is how a bunch of guys that only know each other on a forum can get together in person and it is almost like they have been close friends the whole time. Until next time.

Guys that was off the hook- Great fun I tell ya!!

Let's see if I can get it all in here-

Vic- He is the man! Our NC brother came out and it was great to meet the man, the myth, the .049 guy! He was baring gifts also (see pic below) and those signs are sweet! HE also had proprietary beverages that were the best I have EVER tasted! Vic is a hell of a nice guy and I am happy to say he is a true friend... (He wasn't going to fly but I threw my TX at him and he was tearing it up...) We could be brothers, he and I...

FBD- Castro was at it again... He did more flying today than yesterday, I put the maiden on his Snare drum delta and he maidened his Sonic with a GMS-47 and a SUPER sensitive elevator! He used some black flexi-prop, but his planes flew well in spite of that.

KMOT- Tom, thanks for trusting me with your "baby", she was built straight and the CG was dead-on (as I suspected coming from your building board) so you or anyone of the Revvers could have maidened that and looked good doing it . You shook the rust off VERY easily and you are a true pilot and a scholar sir! (See pic of KMOT's stuff)
Tom somehow found time to fly both his airplanes, take videos pics, and he memorized who, what, and HOW along the way... Great video stuff!

Speed Junkie- A true ambassador! He cooked twice, chicken and Asada- He even supplied silverware napkins and drinks...He and I had a pretty good shoot-out at the combat portion of the get together— Junkie’s Quik Fli is faster than most of our speed planes, sorry was faster...

Buddude- That night flying was awesome! The most fun I have had in a long time.... Dave kept coming up to us saying, “you gonna do this?” “You really gonna do this?” Yup! And I recommend next time that we all partake in this fine event! Titled- Ken’s Krazy Krackhead Shootout! I would seriously have thought if we were going to crash it woulda been due to DARKNESS but Ken’s Shoestring, that is right he was nightflying with his GP Shoestring, instead Ken’s engine sounded like it went dead-stick and as he was flaring to land in pure darkness, the engine went WFOT, and the green light went red. (Crap)

Mike- (AKA Cobratraxxas), thanks for lettin’ me use the dolly to fry the Enya! Yes Tom, the Clipped wing DD of Cobra’s met it’s match— The best crash I have seen since Junkie put his DF 6' under. Mike had that thing rolling soo fast nobody could tell the top from the bottom, not even him. LOL

Kevin- One of the turbine guys found one of the muffler ends! Send me your address and I will have a new one shipped to you from Tower or whomever- Sorry about the Patriot, and for stealing your muffler. LOL

Mark and Troy-rcu- It has been said, they are nutty! 21,000 RPM’s on that $99 Bobcat pusher huh Mark? 104 Amps? A true test seemed top be that mark F had Troy test fly some of his stuff, and mark is a great pilot himself... These guys are the F5D people I think— One blade props and everything!

More later---

was expecting on loosing that plane that day. funny how everybody thought it was nice but if they had seen the inside of it and how many bottles of epoxy i had used to hold it together, they would of thought i was crazy for flying it. How it happend i took the plane way up high and started doing tumbles with it, I cut the throtle and let it fall did a couple of rolls on the way down. when i saw the two yellow and 1 green glow stick I gave some elevator and gas to pull out. The engine never came back so I thought i was dead stick but it must of been just loaded up. I gave it more elevator for a landing and then the engine revved up and it snapped over. I cut back the throttle to try to get my orientation back but by that time it was too late and into the ground. It was worth it though, and like i said before vic has plenty of pics of the remains.

I had a fantastic time this weekend and it was a pleasure meeting and flying with you all. We really lucked out with the weather and even frequency control was a non-issue. I stayed for both days and Sunday was a busy day for locals and long distance visitors, too. Many turbines and sport flyers.

Saturday was a blast. There was so much speed action I was in heaven. It was too bad my friends couldn't get their high tech radar gun system working but maybe next time. It needs a mod to the power source connection so you don't have to stick a car out on the runway to take readings.

I was happy to come home with all planes intact and getting to fly my thumbs off. My old school Orion flew great on Saturday but Sunday was acting up with odd glitches I believe may be a bad internal connection. I quit while it was in one piece and just flew my other stuff. Also, Sunday morning the sky was dominated by some of the turbines and flying time was limited. I got a chance to fly my F5D pylon plane while those guys were still there and it was entertaining to hear their reactions. The giant scale racers finally flew the Unlimited Mustang Miss Ashley and it was an awesome display. That thing ate up the giant lake bed like it was a baseball diamond. It was sorta loud, too!

I got a few pics towards the end of the day so I'll post them in the other thread.

Once again, thanks Revver dudes for an awesome weekend. I will definately do that again next time around.

Yeah Troy, I have some video that has audio of the electric speedsters in the background. Awesome sound. Sure wish I had a camera that could follow these things, as well as the IC speedsters!

Yes, it is really a wonderful thing how the forums have brought people together. All of the Revvers are a great bunch of guys and I am proud and honored to be associated with each and every one of you.

I am also happy that all you kids tolerate the old man.

Bob, she flew great. Razor did the initial trimming and it needed a bit of right aileron and a bit of down elevator. Other than that, when both Razor and vicman were flying it, it was a thing of beauty to watch because these guys can fly and it was tracking like it was on rails. I'm very pleased. The Webra 50 is running smoother with each tank (which is to be expected) and on that vintage Slimline twin pipes muffler it sounds pretty sweet!

Here is what I saw!

FlyboyDave,

Always smilin' and alway's willin' to help! He coughed up a qt. of oil for the generator that was gettin' thirsty for lubricant and sacrificed a new prop for my now defunked Quick Fli. He flew more planes then anyone else there because he has more planes than anyone else there! Talk about a herd he had to have 15 planes and they were all ready to fly! I was truly jealous and envious and you get the picture A true Bro!

Razor,

U are the inverted lowest high speed pass King! I don't know of anyone else who lands their plane inverted at 100mph on the canopy and after the dust clears and the plane stops you simply lower (raise) the landing gear and point them straight up to the sky then look around to see if anyone saw what wasn't suppossed to happen! Then-------to be continued!!!!!!!!!!!

Junkie- These Chinese ARF's sometimes come with the gear on the wrong side, I am sending it back to the manuf. Everyone needs to take notice of Wayne's crazy blond hair/wig-mask-thing! This guy is hilarious... Kevin was sporting his pimp-daddy hat as well--- Good stuff!

Vic- I am glad you came by to visit on your way to the airport- You DO need a racing type nickname though now that I know the real story You are far too modest about your past! And YES! I did find your business card and the "stuff" next to the car- I appreciate everything you did for me, Pops, and the other Revver's, those signs are sa-weet! My wife was stoked about it (which says alot!). I will display it with pride, for all times...

To the folks who are just reading this, some stuff may sound weird or geeky but the Revver's II was is a major experience for me...I bring my dad every time and he just loves it, all of it! I grew up flying from 12 til now with my dad and at his age I dunno how many fly-in's we'll have together.... So add that plus all the great guys on RCU and I am telling you, this was a special experience, one that I will never forget!

To top it all off I left work early today, came home and proceeded to have the worst day of my life- I passed a Kidney stone tonight at about 7PM, from 1-7PM was the most painful experience of my entire life... All better now!

When is Revvers III?

Well I must say that was a blast!!! I truly enjoyed participating in the combat session! It was hilarious to see 5 planes in a frenzied swarm each desperately trying to run their plane into another plane!! What fun!! I also enjoyed watching Razor and Buddude (the guy without a number) do their night flying!! Twirling lights against a starry sky!! If you have not seen it.....see it. I cannot wait to see some of these videos that Kmot took! He is a great guy to have around for sure! Although I did come home with one less plane (and two less mufflers, ) I still thoroughly enjoyed flying and all the other things that went on. I just need to figure out which plane to put my extra Webra 50 into! IT was good seeing all you guys again! Flyboy Dave...you are pretty cool for an old dude !! When is the next one?? James, I'll get you that address in the next couple days or so....I'm just glad I could enjoy some more Naboo fighters flying! I will be ready for the night flying next time!

I was timid about mentioning in public, the unbelievably freakin' cool plasma cut metal Revver Brotherhood sign that Vicman laid upon me. I was afraid it would create a world of jealous and envious people wanting to hunt me down and steal it from me! But since James and Vic themslelves spilled the beans already then I guess it is okay for me to say:

Heck yeah I got a KEWL Revver Brotherhood sign too!

Thanks soooo much Vicman!! I am still blown away by it!!

Speed Junkie is one heck of a chuckwagon cook! His secret marinade makes the chicken and carne asada melt in your mouth. Props to your wife too Wayne, for the potato salad. All your planes are fast too. Even your beaters!
Dr. Speed, you have a great attitude! Even though your Patriot went splat!! (oh sorry, heh...) you are determined to come back stronger and better than before. Your hat was pretty 'fly' too.
Buddude is just "Mr. Cool, Calm, and Collected". Nothing fazes him. And he is a real 'hot shoe' on the Tx sticks. He builds killer airplanes too.
Vicman is just the kind of guy every club needs. Positive, friendly, helpful, energetic, a do all guy.
Razor has the most comedic personality of the bunch. Always has a quick wit about him and the one liners just keep flowing. He was keeping me in stitches most of the day.
FB Dave is sort of like your favorite uncle. Mellow, knows what to do about almost everything, allows a lot of leash but knows when ya need to be reigned back in.
Cobratraxxas is a little on the shy side. Doesn't say much. He lets is speed plane speak for him. Loudly, I might add.

I had such an unbelievably good time! I will be looking forward to Revver III.

James: Been there, done that. I will have to PM you about the stones because it can't be described in polite terms.

Hey Dave, since you fly out there in the high desert a lot, do you run Bruline air filters?

No....normally the loose dirt and dust has been blown off the surface
of the dry lakes.

....it's usually more like a clay surface, cracked....but hard.

I am glad I ran the air filter.

You are correct, Tom....

....most of the dirt you find in the carb or on the aircleaner is dirt that is
blown there while the plane is sitting around. Actually, very little dirt (if
any) gets into the engine while it is running, or in there air. If it is really
windy, with dirt blowing around, it is a good idea to keep a rag wrapped
around the carb.

I usually look in the carb for any signs of dirt, and either wipe it out with
a cotton swab, or rinse it out with a little blast of fuel. Usually, it is the
motorcycles and quads that stirs up the dust.

Usually when the dirt gets to blowing....I put my radios and planes away.
