I know this is Off Topic..But hay why not. F-101 Voo Doo. 10 to 12 N size.

Started the drawing for the F-101. My goal is to some day have the Century Series in 1/6th scale. F-100, F-102, F-104,F-105, F-106. But I don't think I will live long enough for that.

1/6th of the F-101 Voo doo would a Big model. here are the specs for a B model. Wing 39.8 over 6 = 6.6 or 79 Inch Wing, but the Fuse would be 134 inches.
Specifications: McDonnell F-101B Voodoo

* Crew: Pilot and navigator
* Length: 67 ft 5 in (20.55 m)
* Wingspan: 39 ft 8 in (12.09 m)
* Height: 18 ft 0 in (5.49 m)
* Empty weight: 28,495 lb (12,925 kg)
* Max takeoff weight: 52,400 lb (23,770 kg)
* Engines: Twin 16,900 lbf (75.2 kN) Pratt & Whitney J57-P-55 afterburning turbojets
* Maximum speed: Mach 1.72 (1,134 mph, 1,825 km/h) at 35,000 ft (10,500 m)
* Range: 1,520 mi (1,320 nm, 2,450 km)
* Service ceiling: 58,400 ft (17,800 m)
* Rate of climb: 49,200 ft/min (250 m/s)

Maybe 8th would be better.

how about that Tupolev Tu-160 in 1/8th Scale?

I vote on the Thud. Always liked that for an RC Model !! and my guess for number of videos is 238.
Lots of good tips and techniques being shown on the viseos thanks Bob, Dad and Butch. October is just around the corner .

How are the bearings in the wings going to be captured? Did you guys figure it out yet?

Bob and his Dad has about 4500 hour in the model as of right now. I had put about 4000 hours and Paul has put in about 500 hours . So 9000 hour total as a rough guess. And then you add materials, glass, resin and all the other stuff. It is a considerable project. As far as kitting the model I don't know. The price would be to a point that a person would have to be very serious to want one. $1500 won't cut it!

Just found this thread and am going to be late for an appointment because of it. Being essentially Scottish we are sparing with praise but this is an amazing project. I would love to be there for the test flights. You too are a dreamer.

Hello I have a question ok you are making the wing molds and on You Tube video # 64 shows you putting on the thick white resin coat and some glass cloth. I did not see or did I miss when you put the part-all on, or is it only used when you make a part from the molds??.
Also have you guys figured out the final weight of the B1 Bomber project ?.
Manny

Yes Bob put on the Part-all. there is just to much stuff going on to get all of it in a single video. It would be very boring if you saw all the steps at one time and would take forever. As for the final weight ,we will tell you the number of videos that he makes!

Got the pivot pin holes in and made a test pin. Installed the end caps too, we'll put some pretty holes in those soon.
Looks like it's gonna work out....if not I guess I can use it for a tractor hitch. Butch, if you need that backhoe, this is one
part that will come up in one piece!
Also the tool to make the sleeves for the stab bearing holders. Where's the layup man when you need him?
Paul

Layup man is "In the Shop"...

Off Topic again. (Ban Him). But we know where to find Butch and Bob..

We need a group of guys willing to do a small part of a group project. Someone do the wing molds, someone do the stab/ rudder. It is a modified "T" Tail. Butch to cut the Fuse.
Ill glass a fuse. and put together A F-101 Voo Doo Kit. Straight forward gear. Maybe we could use a Robart set. Someone do the canopy cockpit bucket set.
I'm pretty sure that the Voo Doo is the predecessor to the F-4 Phantom.

By the time it is rolling donn the runway, Their will be 3 versions on the market with scale gear, available in 5 different paint jobs. 3 Scales each.

The gear is not that easy. It has a shortning strut that compresses the oleo. Lynn McCauley built one a couple years ago and I think Paul has it. It can be done but it's not easy.

Recived the Lolly Pop Bulkhead this moring. It is a STL part made by a local Aircraft company. Don't want to get them in trouble for their support. Can't wait to get it made out of carbon !

Yes it is the bearing bulkhead. It was a calibration run ! Things are coming together, October is coming faster.

I do have a question for everyone. We want to have the Jet event in Breckenridge Oct 22-25. I have got some people helping with that, but if the B-1B is not finished and ready to fly should we postpone the meet till March? I think the October meet would be Great even if we don't fly but I don't want to disapoint a bunch of people. For those that want to fly you will find it as one of the best airports and city backed event you have ever been to. Your feed back is wanted!

Butch,
That was what I wanted to talk to you about in my PM to you. I'm up for an event but I'm just one vote. As far as March is concerned, there is an event scheduled for March at Bomber Field near Houston. I think the dates are March 18-20. If you plan on a date after that I think you are running up against established events. You may want to start a new thread about your plans to see if you can get any feedback as some of the jet pilots may not be following your B1 build thread, although I can't image that.

OK ,just had a conversation and the event is a "GO" for October 22-25. AMA has been contacted, they are aware of the test flight and have given specific rules on how we can do it and not interfere with the AMA rules. The event will be shut down a certain times if the B-1B is ready to fly. Those times "WILL NOT" be covered under AMA ! Which is good because we have some other special things planed that won't happen at any other event. So everyone make your plans and come ready to have some FUN ! I will post Hotel and other info that is needed next week.
