OK ,just had a conversation and the event is a ''GO'' for October 22-25. AMA has been contacted, they are aware of the test flight and have given specific rules on how we can do it and not interfere with the AMA rules. The event will be shut down a certain times if the B-1B is ready to fly. Those times ''WILL NOT'' be covered under AMA ! Which is good because we have some other special things planed that won't happen at any other event. So everyone make your plans and come ready to have some FUN ! I will post Hotel and other info that is needed next week.

Tater peelin contest?

I will have taters there just for you! Don't cut yourself !

Recived the wing accuators today. They have 6" of travel and 150#'s of force. 15sec for full travel. we only need 4.625 of travel.

Awesome project! Question.

Ive heard that long servo leads are really bad news for radio control. how do you avoid those problems on such a huge project?

what do you mean "really bad"? the electricity running thru the wires does pose as a source for electrical interference, but twisting/braiding the wires or running ferrite rings or a shielded cable eliminates more of the electrical interference issues.

That is the key term, electrical interference. Whether it be spurious emissions from inside sources, like the pump, ECU, etc. or electromagnetic emissions from outside sources like other transmitters. On my 1/12th scale B-1B project, my longest servo run is from the rudder which is 12' from the receiver. Bob's will be a third again longer in the 1/8th scale depending on where he mounts his receivers.

I personally am using 18 ga shielded/grounded wire from the servos to the ElectroDynamics Pow'R Bus Pro which optically isolates the servos from the receivers. It allows a separate battery source to power the servos and allows a dual receiver set up without any electrical interference getting back to the receivers. This system is what I have used for a number of years and works for me. There are any number of ways to accomplish eliminating electrical interference. Smartfly Power Expander, Duralite PowerBox or the Weatronics system all accomplish the same thing and that is to keep out electrical interference and allows for system redundancy.

I am sure Bob has taken this all into consideration and we will hear shortly how he will accomplish this task and what he will be using.

Go Bob!

One way they intend to avoid long servo leads, is multiple receivers. Somewhere I believe they may be thinking 4.
sounds like a good Idea to me. Less heat build up from current for each receiver.

Hustler58,
Hey I just ran across this thread as I was searching for info to build my own b1, all I can say is this project is nothing short of incredible......im speechless your plane is the largest most accurate scale model I have ever come across in my life long love of modeling. Sorry to bother you, but in short I would assume that you used some sort of 2d/3d CAD model in your design's infancy and I was actually just surfing the net trying to find an existing CAD model that I could sort of scale to my liking and customize as opposed to starting from scratch. I'm not the best at drawing all those curves yet I am going to school for engineering and my real passion is CAD and aircraft of all types. I currently have AutoCAD and AutoDesk Inventor, wasn't sure what program you used and if it could be converted for either my 2d, or 3d format. I also realize that you must have put many thousands of hours, sweat and tears into your baby, I know how that is. So I would most certainly be willing to compensate you for your service. I have a couple high output EDF's laying around and I was hoping to come up with sort of a B1 park flyer to go with them. If you would be willing to share your plans with me that would be awesome, but if you don't I certainly understand.

regards - Jason Perez

yeah we almost had an incident in our trailer as well coming back from Waco.

It's odd because the further south you drive from Dallas, it seems like the people do not know how to get on a highway. They actually decelerate on the ramp.

That happened with a little white truck in the pouring rain. He decelerated while getting on, causing me to get on the brakes hard, which in turn made a car behind me veer into the left lane, which in turn sent a truck flying through the median and sliding in the mud.
Could have been a horrible accident.
