Oh and the saito's really need some hours of running before you can think of put idle lower, but well run in and with the suggested 10% Nitro (really does make a difference!!!) they really run very low on idle
(all this is by my own experience, I own three of them)

That's what I was thinking and that's why I'm putting lots of hours on the engine I'll eventually mount in the Snipe. Last time I ran it, it sounded much better and much smoother.

Congratulations Chris, it really looks fantastic. I expect you are greatly relieved to get a flight in before the weather really turns nasty.

Chris and Frank,
CONGRATULATIONS!!
A great maiden flight and wonderful report (especially for me who just ordered the kit)!
I love that photo of the frost track in the grass but frankly, I thought all WW-I landings were supposed to end up like that.
Abu, I had the same problem with my Saito 72 in getting it to idle lower ("tick-over" to our European friends). I had already gone to a (heavier) APC prop for balance reasons, partly because the wood prop just didn't have enough flywheel effect. I also use 15 to 20 percent nitro fuel, which on some of my Saitos has made a huge difference in getting the idle down.
On this one, nothing seem to work until I actually got mad and just started going nuts with the idle adjustment screw - turning it in again and again. It takes a while because you have to adjust the throttle trim each time to reestablish the lowest possible engine rpm. After a least a turn or two (done a quarter turn at a time), the engine smoothed out and now idles down to 1800-2000 >
Try it. If you are lucky this may work... otherwise you may have an air leak or something much harder to deal with.
There is an excellent website done by a Saito enthusiast which has great tips. http://saito-engines.info/

Fantastic! Well worth the wait! She looks great in the air. Interesting skid marks on the landing photo. Looks like Minnesota this time of year (when it's unseasonably warm). Is that you or Frank fueling in the first photo?

Great job, what's next? Chris, I think I heard you talking about the next project, somewhere?

Hi Mode,

that's Frank there in picture getting the Pup ready, I'm the guy behind the camera, as usual. There's a picture of me in Abufletcher's Snipe thread posted sometime back in May 2007, if you're interested in seeing my handsome looks

This is my current project. Who can guess what aeroplane it is?

While I am in awe of the skills needed to do a project like the Ju-88, something in the back of my mind rebels at the very thought of building anything other than WWI -- or at the very least an post war biplane.

I know, isn't it awful? And a twin as well! As soon as I get it off my building board (in about three years?) I swear I'll finally do that long time 'must do that ony day' project I've been dreaming of all those years, a quarter scale Hawker Hind. Unless I can find some one to do it for me, nudge nudge, hint hint

Make the Hind a Hart, or make a Fury at 1/6 scale and I will take one.

Actually, the Hawker Hind is just your evil attempt to seduce me unwittingly into WWII. Oh, yeah, FIRST it'll be the Hind/Hart. THEN, you'll say, well the Hurricane is almost the same just subtract one wing and add a whole bunch of rivets.

Next thing you know I'll be building an Ju-88.

Not a Hurricane, for starters we'll do without the difficult stringered fuselage and give you something simple, more attractive - like a Fairey Battle

Or an Armstrong Whitworth Whitley (hehehe) or a Fairey Hendon or a Handley Page Hampden, and after you've progressed past the Phoney War, we'll throw a Brian Taylor Hawker Typhoon kit at you.

Before you know it, you're in the wonderful world of ww2 warbirds. Youre japanese friends will love your screaming Tony's, Frank's and howling Betty's
