I'm running the thunder power 1320's, they are 20c packs.

Performance is pretty good, it will hover, and has decent pullout, not ballistic by any means but enough.

It will do knife edge loops with this setup which is fun and better than I expected.

Problems so far are that I have a pretty good amount of right aileron trim and I'm not really sure why, I checked the wings and they seem pretty strait. It must be the slightly off elevators, I'm still deciding how to go about fixing that.

And I've had one of the landing gear come out when landing on grass, but that's probably my fault for landing on grass in the first place.

It's a pretty fun little plane.

I'm thinking of getting myself one of the extreme flight extras as well.

My Fliton Inspire Mini was ready to fly at 25.5oz when using the 6.5oz 3-cell Cellpro 2150mAh (20C) pack.

When using an APC 10x4.7 SF prop, the power system provided 320 watts at 31amps. That's 200w/lb!

Team JR/Team Fliton's Devin McGrath is guaranteed to have some fun on the upcoming test flights.

It is nice to know that it came in at that weight considering your equipment choices! That means that sub-24 ounces is possible with an apogee 1500, A30-28, X-30 ESC, and lighter servos. I suspect I can drop 3 ounces easy!

Greg, thanks for your usual nice job on this build thread.

I was lucky enough to win one of these very nice models at the BEST 2006 electric event in south Texas a couple of weeks ago.... A huge thank you to Filton for supporting the premiere electric event in Texas with their donation.

Thus, this build thread will be handy!

PS: Was a pleasure to get to meet you at last up at NEAT!

Hi Thomas,

It was nice to finally meet you as well. Your mini EDF jet was fun to watch!

There are many different ways to power the Inspire Mini. Some are lighter, some are less costly, and others can strain some of the components. Depending upon how you fly, a lighter power system using a TP 1320 pack will work just fine for a limited number of flights. By using a bigger (and heavier) Cellpro or PolyQuest 2150mAh (20C) pack, you will still get several hundred flights from it.

The AXI/Jeti power system with the 3-cell 2150mAh pack is for extreme power levels. The heavier weight does change how the plane flies and can be an advantage in windy conditions.

We tested the Inspire Mini in some cold and windy conditions today. Team JR/Team Fliton's Devin McGrath stopped over and gave the new plane a good workout. The winds ranged from 7-14mph and it was cold so we decided to leave the video for another day. Due to his previous experience, Devin requested that I change the APC 10x4.7 SF prop to an 11x5.5 e-prop. The current draw was about the same but the thrust had noticeably increased.

The Inspire Mini performed flawlessly and could accelerate going vertical. I asked Devin after the flight what he thought about it and all he said was, "I want one!".

The weekend forecast looks very poor so we will try more testing next week and shoot a video.

The inspire was awesome ! I am defiantly going to have to get one. Greg's power system choice was perfect for those windier days. It flew great! The knife edge was clean and crisp. The harriers (upright, inverted, rolling) were all great. even in the wind the inspire flys like it is on rails. I can't wait to get it out on a calm day, and to get one of my own ! Thanks for letting me fly it Greg.

I really love the looks of this plane, mostly due to the clear covering. I am concerned about losing orientation however. Please comment on this.

Lammy1000,

The visibility of the plane does not seem to be an issue at all. As you may be able to see in some of the pictures the bottom is mostly clear with a few stripes on the wing and horizontal stab which makes it look different from the top of the plane. Also the green bottom of the fuse compared to the red top also makes for good contrast between top and bottom.

I just finished mine. Everything seems to be working OK. I used these funny looking pushrob holders that came with the kit. I have the micro hooks from dubro if I need them. I am using the Park 480 with a e flite 2100 battery. Seems a little heavy in the front. Is the correct? I know they give you a range, but does anyone have pictures of it balancing. Would like to see where others are balanced.
Thanks
BTW; This is my first venture into Electric, and I am curious. How long do the batteries last. 10 min, 20 min...etc. I have a LIPO 2100 11.1v 3 cell.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have always flown GF. But this really looked like a great plane to get started into electric.
Thanks
Michael

Batteries generally last about 10 minutes. This depends on how hard you push them though. Fly gentle, they will last longer, fly hard, they will last less. Same as with glow.
I would start with a short flight. Maybe 5 minutes. Recharge. See how much you put back in the battery. I'm guessing at 5 minutes it would put back in maybe 800 mah or so. Just guessing here. So then fly a 7 or 8 minute flight. Recharge. Keep doing this until you pull out about 1500 or 1600mah. I would stick around that area. Some will tell you goto 1700 or 1800 mah or so maybe. I'm not saying they are not correct. I just like to keep mine around 75% or so.
As for balance. I can't help you as mine isn't completed yet. Should be by the weekend. Hope to maiden it!! Hope to get some good video within a few weeks to show what this plane can do!!

Good luck and any q's, please ask so you aren't confused in your new electric adventure!!

Chris

Michael,

My Inspire Mini was nose heavy with the power system I used and I needed to add two 1/4oz sticky-back lead weights to the tail near the dragger wire.

Dazz,

I am not familiar with an A30-28S but the other parts look fine.

In upstate NY, we have learned to be patient this time of year as the month of November is typically our worst weather. Fortunately, we finally saw the sun and some warmth for our Thanksgiving weekend.

While I waited for the good weather to arrive, I installed a ParkBEC 6v from Dimension Engineering. This device installs between the ESC and receiver and also connects to your battery pack. The 6v supply provides the servos with more torque and speed which is a great thing for 3D flying!

Great Video Greg. It is a tough decision these days when it comes to which 3D plane in the 3 cell power requirement range to buy. Having eight 2100 3s thunder power batteries, it is nice to have such a choice. I am an AXI guy as well, and this looks like a great little combo. There are so many super light 48" wing span Yaks, Extra's, and other 3D airframes out there. It is a hard choice. It never used to be this way. It is amazing the number of high quality arfs available right now. Electrics have come a long way.

Thanks for another thorough build and review thread.

Adam

Thanks for sharing the video Greg!
Great flying D!

I use this same motor in mine and it does have great power with the 11 5x5 prop. But my mini came out nose heavy also.
I only flew it twice so far several weeks back. Flew it nose heavy with no weights added to the tail. Nice plane.
