Quick! Call them in the morning!

http://www.funrcboats.com/ProductInfo.aspx?productid=GR6318

You may want to consider two of them in case it does not match with the motor you have already.

Hi captains,

I got some work done on Dauntless. The entire crew on the boat arrived over the past week, I took the captain and painted a white outfit on him with some black and gold highlights. He really plays the part
& I can't wait for pics. I also painted Hercules...Wow did he come a long way. Now he looks like a movie star!! He is wearing a black suit with a white shirt and he is also sporting a gold watch, bracelet and necklace. His hair is also no longer hippy yellow, but is now long black hair. This along with his big buff build, he looks really cool!!

On the business end, I have been waiting for a stock of water jackets to come in but they are still not available. So last night I went ahead and watercooled the brush tabs because from what i've learned, they generate the most heat. I did a pretty good job on them if I do say so myself...Anyway, they are hooked up and ready to use. I took the boat out for a run today to see if the water makes it through but this is still an issue. I do want to say though that the metal tubing on the brush tabs seem to work like a heat sink because the motors ran cooler than usual. This week it is off to the hobby shop for thin metal tubes because i'm going to crimp and heatshrink them so that I can get to the leads on the water pumps.

I ran the boat this morning and she did great. As mentioned, she ran cooler than usual and I removed 16 oz from her stern. This changed her pitch slightly. The weight will eventually return but rather than lead it will be pumps and switch panels.

Today my wife has the camera so no pics were taken but they will soon follow. I am actually waiting for my batts to charge up so that I can go on a second run with the captain, both crew members and Herc.

-Rich.

Hi captains,

So the other day I was at bed bath & beyond when I happen to stumble across a very interesting item. It is called a Winsome Luggage Rack. It is very nice looking and it has a walnut finish to it. Then I started thinking of the possibilities & bought it.

This thing was able to hold my Brooklyn Tug and the Dauntless nicely!! (not at the same time) This is great  to either display your boat or for me I can work on the hull while it is nicely cradled in the slings. What's more is that it is lightweight and easily folds away. This thing is nice!!

I would use it as a general boat display but it's not such a good idea with a two year old runnin' around.. Perhaps someday I will get to use it as a general display. This could also be useful when bringing your boat to the pond.

check it out & perhaps it may be something that you will find useful for your big boats.

Looking good deepsky!!

Tonight I am going to try to get the waterpumps to work.

The way that the unit is made it looks like there was a specific plug from the car that plugs into the washer pump. Being that I don't have them I have to fabricate my own. The inside of the pump has two male prongs one for pos & the other for neg. So here is the gameplan: I bought a 1/8" wide by 12" long copper tube. I am going to cut off two 2" inch sections for each prong. Then I 'm going to crimp them and get them to slide on individually so that they stick in place. Afterwards the wire for each gets soldered to the other end of the tube. Once the wire is soldered the rest of the outside of the tube gets shrink wrapped so it cannot short out. Finally, I run tests, and install them once the pump works. I hope this does the trick and finally gets the water flowing throughout the system. If this pair works then i'm going to order more to complete the system. There will be an on/off switch installed and servo controlled so that I don't have to use it for the entire run.

As of now I have four large scoops underwater that is most definitely robbing performance. If this works out then I may remove the long scoops if it proves to self prime. This may even boost the speeds of the boat because there is less drag. So lets see how this works out.

Hi caps..

Here are some pictures of Herc, the captain & some of the folks on Dauntless.

So the official crew on this boat is made up of GI Joes... We have the captain, engineer, a seperate deckhand and two CIA agents. Then we have the owners party all of which are not GI Joe...

Also is a pic of one of the water pumps.

Rich,

How did you connect that water pump?

I am trying to do the same, except I am trying to activate the pump when the boat is already on water and not when I connect the drive batteries.

I just bought this pump at an eBay vendor!

Hi Carlos,

It is not  installed yet. I ran tests last night to ensure that it will work first using 2 cups of water.

The pumps will be placed in line with the underwater pickups so that it will prime easily. Being that the pump is long and low it will sit below the waterline which should help with priming. I still have to make up basswood supports and epoxy the unit in place.

On the electric end as you can see it is hooked up and the wire I left  very long so that I can run it from the pump all the way to the power distribution panel under the salon floor midship. In the engineroom, there will be the switch on the line with a servo so that I can turn it on or off remotely. This way it will be off and when I am sailing it, I can turn it on for a couple of minutes and then turn it off again to conserve energy. The water exhaust pipes are high up on the transom so it will be obvious when the pumps are on.

I run this boat using 3 LIPOS. One is for the port motor and esc, other is for the stbd motor & esc. Then there is a dedicated LIPO for the power distribution panel that has different output voltages that powers everything else including the pumps.

I have very limited time each week to work on the boat so it will take me a little bit of time to get it installed. Pics will follow once I have them in.

I hope this answers your question.

-Rich.

Hi Deepsky,

It's looking good. Being that you are doing such a good job, here is a tip that may help you. I noticed that you followed Dumas when placing the bridgedeck floor. Their placement of the bridge floor is not scale if you plan on doing any extensive detailing. If you were to put a scale figure in place right now the side walls would seem to be at least 5' high whereas on the full sized boat it was only 3' high. This translates to 2 1/4" high in scale. You have three options, 1) cut and raise the floor. 2) leave the floor and put some wood beams and another floor over it. This could potentially work well if you were to have a removable floor hatch and have some batteries tucked away in that space for possible lighting. Or 3) leave it as is.

This is just some food for thought.

Hi captains,

I won't be able to touch the boat for the next few days but I plan on doing a late-nighter on Saturday evening which should allow me to finish and install both pumps. My goal is to test the boat with both pumps on Sunday.

-Rich.

Yeah DS and those side walls in real life are much thicker than Dumas plans calls for. See Rich's boat for details on that as well. Now's the perfect time if you want to make these adjustments for realism.

Deepsky,

Now I have a question.   Since the deck does not 'look' removable, are you going to use the "wasted space" under the new deck for batteries or something else by accessing it from the bottom or is the deck going to have a top hatch?  I kind of expect you to plank this deck like you did the aft deck.  You do nice work.

Bob
