Coming in on this topic, firstly Don, thats definitely looks like the Dauntless on sat images, how long did that take you to find? :) Secondly, I'm wondering does mystic regularly go out and recover boats such as this, I know they restore them, but this looks like an especially risky/expensive recovery, due mostly by the location. I don't really know if you can tow such a craft across the gulf stream, seems more suitable to either use a drydock transport vessel or refit the boat to operation in the Virgin Islands. If you towed is, there would be a huge risk involved, as a child me and my family tried going to the caribean but decided against it, due to the unpredictability of those waters. A big question is whether the hull is intact and how thick it is, warm salt water cannot be good for an aluminum hull. It is unfortunate it grounded way out there and I'm betting the owner said, man how am I going to get this repaired out here and furthermore, how much is it going to cost to salvage off the beach. The running gear has to be completely shot and like I said who know if there's holes. If we were serious about taking this idea of recovery to mystic, I believe we should think this out further before anyone contacts them. As a group contact we might get more sway. We need to find out everything we can about the boat. Probably finding the owner would be the best route, not quite sure how you do that. I'm thinking the course of action if recovery happened, would be drag the boat out, attach airbags tow it out to see to a dry dock transport and run straight to mystic, I cannot imagine how much this would cost alone, besides the restoration. I'm not trying to burst potential bubbles, but I wouldn't be surprised if they say no, it just may cost too much. BTW, beautiful models guys, it is a very classy ship, that leaves no wonder to why you'd want it restored.
