Dear Dauntless Captains,

Can someone please forward me a copy of the Dauntless instruction sheet detailing the Radar Mast and the 2 ladders in the back of the yacht. Thank you in advance.

Rich,

I do not have the information in front of me but here is my version of it.

I have a revolving Robbe radar and ran the shaft thru the housing for the mast. The motor is hidden in the superstructure. The revolving radar really sets off the boat.

Thanks for all the updates. The Dauntless site is still in the works but on the back burner since I am so busy with work. My Donzi and Smit Nederland are 1/2 done are suffering the same fate.

Marty

Dear Dauntless Fans.

Here are some recent pics of my Dauntless bieng built.

I decided to go back and correct the bridgedeck by rounding off the corners by filling with epoxy. A new support will be put on each side to accommodate the wraparound windshield....i only wish that Dumas instructed us to round this off to begin with. All Future Dauntless builders should take note that this area is rounded and not square!! It is easy to incorporate during an initial build. A HUGE pain to go back and correct.

On this Yacht, it is 80% done. I am getting closer on getting the plexiglass to fit.

_Rich

Recently, i decided to readjust the Bridgedeck floor to be more to scale. After careful consideration, and by using a scale figure which is my Hercules dude...He is 4 1/2" tall which would make him 6' in reality. I have been using this figure to give me perspective of an actual person on this yacht....Anyway, after going back and forth with this, i decided to raise the floor 13/16" This allows a scale figure to step into the yacht without using steps or stairs, and also allows the figure to realistically look through the windshield. It also gives the overhead to be about 6 1/2' in scale.

This adjustment also raises the engine room significantly. It will benefit by more gear at different heights and possible use of gas engines in the engine room for anyone going that route.

I am reluctant to permanently remount the floor yet, there is so much access to the engine room this way. When i create the seating/ piloting area, i might cut access points in the floor and remount the rest.
Here are those pics...

After removing the Bridgedeck floor, i decided to start on the aft cabin and set up supports for the wall to the aft cabin and engine room aft. this actually helps out the cover because it no longer flexes with that floor removed. In the meanwhile, i also set up the accessway to the engine room from the aft cabin.

Note the doorway and steps leading in.

wow, actually doing the framing, impressive. I kinda think herc has a case here. He's got the steel towed boots but no head or ear protection.

Dear Mike,

Welcome aboard!

Dauntless is a great choice and will give you many years of enjoyment! As you can see on this thread, there is so much that you can do with this yacht.

Many great ideas pass through this thread on a regular basis. Stay tuned!

If you get stuck at any time during the build, we will see you through.

-Rich

Dear Captains,

Thank you all very much for your concern for Herc. I told him time and time again to wear protective gear. (You can lead a horse to water, but it is up him to drink it) I will make sure that i enforce safety with him, and hopefully in upcoming pics he will be properly set up with safety gear.

Dear Captains,

Here are some old photos of my Dauntless that i finally scanned from her original build phase. Also are pics shortly after she was painted and giving the yacht a stress test using my friend's son.

These pics were taken around 1999-2000

Dauntless easily passed the stress test!!!!

Another reason that this is a great yacht! -
Builds up strong......

P.S. I will not be using this color scheme for her next painting.

If i remember correctly, don't have the boat near me right now, i epoxied a piece of scrap wood to the bulkhead using epoxy. After it dried, it then made it easy to fit the first plank.

the scrap will make the bulkhead wider so that the plank will stick better. Let us know how it works for you.
