No feathers ruffeled. Just be specific as to what you don't line.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion.

Happy flying!

AEAJR,

That is a big YES on the spoilers. They are very helpful when need be.

Hey Jeffsend,

I have been looking for a slope in OK. I notice you are from Nowata and therefore you must be in the Osage hills. Any chance you could share your location with the rest of us or at least me? Do you know of any public places where you could fly slope? I live South of Tulsa and it's pretty flat here or the hills are completely covered in trees. For those who don't know Oklahoma, Osage County is an area dominated by tall rolling hills and tall and short grass prairie, very few trees or people for that matter. Mostly large ranches. Great winds in Oklahoma too. Did you know that Oklahoma City is the #1 windiest city in the country on average? I drool every time I go to the Osage to visit my sister. But alas, I don't know any of the ranchers or anyone else who owns this prime slope real estate. Really folks, this area could be world class slope territory if we could develop some good relationships with the land owners.

I'm not familiar with the Osage hills.
The hill i've flown on is on this guy's ranch, and he has cattle and his home there, and gates we have to go through to get to the hill.It is a friend of mine who has permission to go there,so i'm not at liberty to share the location.I too would like to find some public access areas for sloping, but am not real sure where to look.

I finally finsihed the installation of the wing servos to install the spoilers. I took the plane flying today in 15+ MPH winds. Launched off of a very poerful hi-start to high launches.

No thermals around so I circled adn landed. The spoilers really make it much easier to bring the plane down and to land it in less space. I really am happy I put them in.

BTW, I never have problem with the wings coming apart. I tape them together with clear packing tape each day. Then I pull off the tape or cut it and split the wings. Works great!

I have a Spirit Elite, 2 of them actually, the Kit and the ARF. I'm pretty pleased with both of them. I believe the Elite tends to fly somewhat faster than the Spirit. I used to have a Spirit many years ago and I don't remember it flying as fast as my Elite. The only two things that I dislike about it are:
1. It seems fairly prone to tip stall
2. The ARF wing is constructed with hot glue or epoxy all the way through.

My original Spirit is long gone. I moved and left it with my roommates who were going to be moving down to Austin where I could pick it up. It was hanging on the ceiling in my bedroom and they forgot it

My Elite ARF is in repair now. Had a bad tip stall while landing and cracked the fuselage and did some minor damage to the wing. I didn't really like the fuselage anyway so I'm making a new one similar to the Allegro fuse.

Equest - noticed you were from Austin...where do you fly? I fly with a group at North East Metro Park in Pflugerville. Maybe you do too

AVEREN,

That fuse is the fiber glass one or wood?

jocool282 - PM me and I'll give you some more info on the flying site. At this time we don't have a website, but we do have an e-mail list of where and when we're going to be. PM me, I'll get you directions, show up some weekend, fly and have a great time with great people, and we'll get you on the contact list . We try to avoid just putting people on there that we never see so to "be in the loop" we prefer that you show up and meet the gang first. The field we have is awesome. Thermals everywhere and LOTS of space to fly.

guru_dick - the fuse on the Spirit Elite ARF is fiberglass. It's a pretty decent fuse for the price of the plane but it's not all that great all things considered. I honesly think that the balsa one from my kit is lighter than the fiberglass one on the ARF. I haven't weighed them but I used the "scientific" method of holding both of them and the fiberglass one feels heavier. The glass fuse is actually very repairable...but I didn't really like the look/setup of it in the first place so I'm going with a lighter pod/boom type fuse. Hopefully I'll have some time to dedicate to it this weekend and I'll post pictures of it when it's done. It will be constructed similar to the Allegro (Mark Drela) fuse but modified so that the wing will actually fit on it.

You mean pod and boom, with kevlar pod and Tailboom.com boom? And the tail feathers? Also Allegro like?

I have the Elite ARF too and flight very well in flat land (thermal) A couple of weekends ago I went to my local slope but didn't have much fun with it. I'll try with a little aft CG an try again.

Regards

Guru, sloping a 2M .... add a LOT of rudder deflection over what is good for TD. Manuvering on a slope requires it!

Yes, with a few changes made to the fuselage so that the wing will actually fit on it

I'll probably stretch out the front of the fuse a little as well. But it's going to be a full flying stab like the Allegro. The rudder might be a little different.

Well, my original spirit was destroyed in a bad winch launch this weekend so I am going to build a new one from a kit.

If you have any building advice, I have posted a request for advice here:
