Hi Fellas,

I ordered my Pitts S1 from RC GUYS yesterday (Thurs). The nice lady on the phone said that their supply was down to the "nitty gritty", so if you are thinking of getting one at the reduced price you better get it done!!

I think I'm gonna go with a DA50, with Fromeco LI Ion batts and regs for the ignition and receiver. That ought to be enough juice all around. I'm currently flying a 30% Yak 54 with a DA50 (at 18 pounds) and it pulls her around right nice. I figure a 14-15 pound Pitts with the DA should be a hoot.

Best,

Dave

For you guys that have been flying this Pitts, would you say a very nice running and well broken in Moki 1.80 would do well with this plane and fly it scale? I spoke with Dan Speers and he said it was tested with the Moki but I wanted a few other opinions as well. I'm not set on this engine but I have one so I thought I would use it if it could be done. I recently took advantage of the $300 deal they had and uncovered it and will cover it in yellow with black trim. I then went to Cajun RC and bought the old Byron Pitts sticker set but had them change them all to black instead of the white. It should look nice when done. Here is a photo of what I am basing it on. Thanks.

jaycam, good choice on the scheme. The yellow will really show up and should look good.Post some pics when you get it finished.I am going with a DA 50 on my GP Pitts that I modified and it should come in around 18lbs.I think if you want good vertical a 2.10 Moki or a 50cc gas would be better, but the 1.80 will certainly fly the plane. It's really cool to see ARF'S recovered, here's what I did to my GP Pitts.

That's beautiful!! I knew Jim and his family. I can't believe he's gone. I got to see Bulldog 2 just after it was finished last year at our airshow convention in Vegas. You should sell me that airplane, it is absolutely gorgeous. I had the GP Pitts and it flew very well. How does yours fly and what does it have for power?

We are just getting it finished.Jim had helped me a lot.We even have a pilot bust with Jims face in it,he sent us pics of himself with his helment on and I had a guy near St.Louis make the bust.Jim got a real kick out of it.He also helped me get the graphics with all the sponsor logos on it.It's covered in Super Coverite Fabric and turned out awsome. It has a DA 50 for power. We have smoke on board and should fly in a couple of weeks. We just got the cowl covered.I really wish he could have seen it,he was coming to the St.Louis County airshow in August and I was going to show it to him.I got to know him about four years ago and stayed in touch with him by email and would see him when he was in town for the airshow.I wouldn't sell it for anything right now!!Good luck with your project,I'm a huge Pitts fan and would love to see your scheme.

Will do. One thing I got from Jim last year was an Airshow Models epoxy resin, kit of his Bulldog #1. It's a model kit with a wingspan of about 7 inches. It's so detailed, it comes with every detail you could imagine right down to the seat belts. You would swear that it was the real thing if you saw a photo of it. The company is now out of business but they also produced several other Pitts models. I have the S2 also and a Christen Eagle II built but the Bulldog is still in the box. I'll get a photo out to you when its complete. Check out the link below for a few photos of the A.M. Bulldog kit.

Andrew,

Saw your review of the RCGUYS Pitts S1 and was impressed enough to pick one up from a fellow who was selling it.

1) From your experience would you recommend a two cylinder gas engine instead of a bigger single cylinder ( I have a single cylinder Husky Challenger 68 cc engine that will fit quite nicely - I also have a BME 115 twin that easily fits in and weighs only 4 oz more than the 48 cc twin but it's not a wise choice)?

2) Did you install your firewall to the motorbox straight (no down or right thrust) and then add thrust spacers behind the engine motor mount to get the required 3 deg right 3 deg down thrust?

3) On most ARF's I've purchased there are normally instructions on where the centerline up / down & right / left should be located on the firewall, assuming zero degrees of thrust both ways. One can then "modify" the position of the engine to accomadate the required thrust and still have the spinner end up centered on the cowl opening. On this plane there are no marks on the firewall, and no specifics in the instructions on how to accomplish this, other than telling you to determine the centerline of the engine placement by temporarily installing the cowl and marking the center location of the engine to the firewall. I'm afraid that if the cowl isn't "temporarily" setup just right or I miss the correct mark due to a slip of the pencil the engine placement won't be worth a darn.

Thanks for any and all....

Bill

I am using washers to adjust the right and down thrust, after the engine install I then set up the cowel, worked well that way.I used the rc guys 48cc twin for power

Still would like to know where you've measured the centerline for placement of the engine on the firewall......if I had that mark then I could adjust the placement to the left and up to take into account for the 3 deg right and 3 deg down thrust required so that the spinner ended up centered in the cowl.

Thx,

Bill

I just drew a cross on the firewal corner to corner and centered the engine on that using the evolution standoffs, seemed to work out ok as to cowl placement
