Status: offline 		Just picked a Kommander kit from a friend who was leaving the state. He had gotten it at a garage sale 10 years ago and never put it together. From what I've been able to read, sounds like it's going to be a fun plane to fly.

Status: offline 		I have a Komander that my grandfather gave to me when we were cleaning out his garage. We thought we had the full plans and were so excited to finish building it, and then I noticed that the canopy wasn't the same as the Komanders, so I looked at the bottom right corner and it said, "SIG Kadet". So that sucked, but I have some instruction booklets for it, from way back before I was born. They have some usefull building information.

Status: offline 		Does anyone have fuse plans that they'll be willing to copy or sell ? I know you can get foam cores from dynamic balsa but I need fuse dimensions.

Status: offline 		Since ex-Sig guys are posting here (hey Jeff!), thought I'd chime in with a few memories. The Komander was one of many Claude MacCullough sport designs that start with a K instead of a C, like the Kadet, Kougar, Kobra, etc... I remember seeing a handwritten list of potential K-names that were never used, mostly goofy (Kutter, Katfish, you get the idea). I also remember being told that Claude purposely went with a single "m" in Komander, just because it looked better to his eye.

Also notice that the ad shows this as the Komander Mark II. Not sure of the history of the original Komander - it might have been more of a kit update (new instruction book) than a design update.

concerning the venture, I have one higly modified on one of my building boards, bruce shipped me the venture 60 plans and I resized it to a 120 version, to do that I ordered sig a four star 120 wing kit and i am scratch building a fuse and tail assembly, should be an excelent flyer with a saito 150 in the nose. The only modification I made on the design of the fuse is resizing the lenght of the front section to get good balance without lead

I'm keeping an email list of builders who are interested if and when the time comes. Anyone who is interested should send me an email and ask to be on the list.

Phil - send me an email about what you are looking for to finish your DW.

Others - sorry for the off-topic stuff. On the subject of the Komander - I used Komander wing cores for at least two home-brew projects that flew exceptionally well. Never actually had a Komander, but that wing design with just the right amount of washout is a real winner.

Status: offline 		Wow I had a couple of commanders back in the day...wait I had 3 of them....the komander flew well...had a k&b.61 in all of mine....built as per plans the gear was "spindley"...way long coming off the shoulder wing. I had better luck once the gear was moved to the bottom of the fuselage...(wow I still have 3 wings in the attic...one in silk...need to rebuild one of those)...

Status: offline 		  I have a Komander MK-II kit put away, but lost track of the original Komander on fleebay I was bidding on.... 

The Original Komander was an early production run as with most of Claude's designs.
Once Sig rcv'd feedback from the builders they would make small changes in the kit, then the MK-II was added either due to upgrades or assembly corrections.

 With some of the K series and the Foam Cores with built in wash-out it is very important to assemble wing per directions, also helps to mark the cores and shucks on the ends before taking them apart the first time.
The wash-out cut into the cores can be affected if the core and shuck gets mixed up while sheeting, I know there is gear hole already cut into them but when sheeted over with balsa they can get confused.
 Also the cores should be weighted evenly in the shucks when sheeted, using the contact cement & roll method alone can again distort the wash-out.

Status: offline 		Well worded Squeak.  I hope the skill of building is not going the way of the Dodo. The Komander was my first RC build. It's fight characteristics were exemplary. I had one get away from me once when I forgot to extend my TX antenna. I actually turned my radio off and then back on before I realized my mistake. It was nothing but a tiny spec flying along straight and level when I regained control. I would buy a couple kits if I could find them.

Status: offline 		Here is an early Claude MacCullough design from 1952. Kind of looks like a pumped up Komander doesn't it? He had a very interesting set of landing gear on this model.

Status: offline 		Komander kit setting on my table now. Started it 24 years ago and never finished. I boxed and seal everything so it is in great condition today. Disassembled the "new" Enya 45, cleaned and reassembled in August. Skinned the wings in September. Fus almost complete, waiting for wing mate. It's good to be building again.
