Alas, I munched the 'ol MPXT last evening. After at least 150 flights, I can certainly say it was (sadly.. yes.. 'was') a GREAT plane!

So... Small world that it is, I too have been flirting with the PA Extra 260. I'm wondering how the power train from the MP would work (I'm running the Park 480 1020, etc.) given that the 260 is a bit larger and a couple of ounces heavier.

Thoughts anyone?

The 480 would fly it but 3d would be out . The other problem is mounting the motor and crowl as the 480 is shorter. The 480 is rated at 275 watts and the Thrust motor for this app is over 400 watts. The Torque motor that AH sells is 388 watts. I would go with one of the latter and sell the 480 or set it aside for another plane(new MPXT ) You are gonna want to do the 260 right or you will be wishing you did something different . What ESC are you using...you may be able to use that for sure.

Thanks for the advice, GoldKraft. I've become quite used to having unlimited vertical with the 480 in the old MPXT. And yes, I'd get another MPXT, but this one is already my second one!

Do you think the 400w Torque would power the 260 the way the 480 motor powers the MPXT? It's only logical since it's a larger and heavier plane, it would need more horsepower.

I'd hate to repeat what I did with the MPXT; spend hard earned $'s on running gear that I eventually replaced. Might there be a better motor than the Torque? (I'm running the 40 amp Eflite ESC.)

The Torque or the Thrust will both take it unlimited vertical...pretty much required for a 3d plane. The Thrust is sold by PA and has alittle more power for the same $....Your ESC should be fine. Here is a link to a thread with all the info you need about the PA 260. If you have anymore questions about the 260 PM me....getting too far off topic here.

Hey guys, I'm the newest member of a pulse xt pnp. I've just installed a spektrum system and a 3s 2200mah lipo. I gone thru the elev, rudder, aileron checks, cg is were it is suppose to be, and made sure my expo and d/r are correct.

I'm just doing dry runs, with the plane held in place and I play around with the throttle to see how much time I can get with a set of batteries. Im estimating 8-10 minutes. I've notice that the motor, esc, and battery gets really warm, borderline hot. The prop looks like it is balanced. The esc and motor are the stock 450 brushless/22amp esc setup. Does it get hot because it is not actually flying, but rather just flying in place. No cool air is going thru the motor and inside compartment.

Any ideas, or is this normal???

Thanks and happy flying

As recommended by other readers, I went out to find some 4-40 nylon bolts for the landing gear. Didn't have luck finding it from 2 hobby shops and a hardware store. I did find a box of various springs at home depot for $4 bucks and I went to rig a new landing gear.

First, I removed the 1/2 inch standard bolts and replaced it with a 1" metal bolt of the same diameter/pitch. I chose a pair of spring that I thought would be good for this application from the variety box, and used some spacer and washer from old r/c parts and came up with a landing gear that will "give" on hard impact and not break the fuselage, or nylon bolt heads. (in theory). On hard landings, the landing gear will act as a hinge and tilt backwards before returning to normal position.

I like the idea, but unless the holes are enlarged I'm afraid that it will actually make the issue worse. I'm going to watch this very closely as if it works, it can be incorporated into almost any plane. Meanwhile, I'm going to be thinking it over and possibly come up with an idea using your concept....Please report back with any results you may have......Pat

Yes...you should not do extended dry runs....you can fry the motor or esc without air flow to cool.

wow that is a very unique fix to the weak landing gears, you should post a mini how to!

I haven't had a chance to maiden the mpxt and try the new landing gear. Its been windy 15+mph winds in the afternoons. Since it will be my first time flying this plane, I want it to be calm so I'll know how this plane flys in normal condition.

I'll give an update after I've had several landings. If it works, then I'll post more pictures and step by step how to.

Another idea on the landing gear is to put springs above and below the landing gear bracket, so that it can absorb the initial shock from landing, and yet flex backwards for really hard landings.
