Woot just got a nice shelf queen from ebay wooot!

I am going to sell off some of the extras I don't need, I built the original clod so I knew I didn't want to build another lolz. I will still tear it apart and see how it goes and threadlock where I can. Not sure if it has the full bearings but that and a few necesary ESP goodies will be in order.

If the Super Brain is a 960 I'll keep it I actually have a 959 already.

Yes I plan to eventually do the on axle mod although I am really curious to see how far servos have come in 20 years first. The S148 (43oz of torque?) choked horribly back in the day and I really want to see a single servo MG 645 shine in this application before I go there just yet. The MG has 3 times the torque for $30. If I can stay with one it will mean alot less draw on the battery.

I am planning on hunting down some stocker T-Maxx Big Bore Oilies for cheap, ESP Wheely, hotter motors and the ESP Chassis lift/brace for now. I like the LBXR alluminum anti twist braces...I remember that was a weak point years back.

Thank god for oldschool Tamiya Lunchbox and Clod Buster for getting me back in the fun side of R/C...I almost lost hope because of tempermental Nitro 1/8th scale racing. I don't feel like I am retired from nitro but slowing things down and having fun rather then repairing every 4 minutes has given this hobby more "repeat play" value as they say...

The thing is, the steering problem is not all about the torque of the servo.. you can have something that has 300 oz-in of torque, and it still won't steer properly..

You will see when you try it out... have fun!! Can't beat a Clod!!

Who makes a kit?

I remember the built in servo saver was a bit sloppy but it saved my servos butt a few times.

Any pics?

What exactly is the steering issue, I mean I know it doesn't work as well as on the axle, but does it turn slow or sluggish, or just not turn the full amount lock to lock or what? I want to try that crawford steering linkage kit in addition to a high torque servo with mine, someone on here was using it, I wish they would give us an update on how they liked it lol.

The servo saver is the first issue...the other is that it lacks strong tracking and my rear steering seemed more touchy/sensitive then the front. Also...having less in the linkages is also a big help since they tend to flex under load especially in low speeds when it has to move the tire more with friction. Like turing your wheels on a full size car at a standstill vs actually moving forward.

That single s148 with plastic gears was so taxed it wasn't funny. I too will at least attempt to leave stock alone with a good MG.

I think I talked about this before (but not like people actually read what I post anyway, so I will try again ) and of course, it is only one man's opinion.. many people are happy w/ their steering, so if you are happy with it, don't change a thing!

The problem I have w/ Clod's steering is that one servo is located in the center, with connecting rods going to the front and rear of the axles, and turn the wheels through a couple of steering cranks..

Even when you have a strong servo, you will see that the servo is pushing the steering crank, and instead of transmitting all the torque to the crank, it pull / push up and down the suspension instead.. and this is just something very difficult to eliminate unless the servo is located on the axle..

But like I said, don't change a thing if you are happy w/ the stock steering setup!! It will still turn your Clod!!

i was hoping mine would be a classic since its been in the box for over a year but someones pushing me (literally ) to build it. hint hint.... lol j/k
i finally opened mine and i must say the shocks are weak , for the money they could of gotten some cheap oil filled shocks . i also was looking at the wheel hubs ,are they 12mm ??? wow i made some 14mm adapters already to run my either aftershock tires or mgt tires, or even the jumbo kongs . hmmmm, naa too heavy.
and no its not done yet before i play with it i think i will see if i can get some decent shocks for it , the lst2 shocks are not posible way to close to the tire and axle
well since it looks like its going to be a long winter this will be a winter project for sure.
and no it still has a msc it may be time for the fxr esc when i have more funds

Anyone have ideas on a clod body? I assume Jeep/'73 Bronco/T-Maxx and E-Maxx stuff should be good to go right? The body on it is a jeep rubicon but a gross color. Any 1/8th scale should work as well like the Savage right?

I would love to throw some small scale goodies in the tailgate for fun and out of the way of the occassional roll over. No roll bars or engine blowers...they will be toast in 3 seconds like midnight pumpkins nlight bar haha.

i was just looking at tower for body ideas, the kit comes with a 1/8 scale looking body and may go with the old chevy 1950 body to match the pumkin
edit: 1/10 scale is iffy, it measures the same size as the thunderquake body and that thing is huge http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXBHZ8&P=7

In all honesty the body does look pretty nice that I have. I could dye the blue parts black and I can either dye the shocks or replace them with purple annodized shocks...
