a geo metro, or a chevy metro? I recently got one, a '99 2dr 3 cylinder 2dr hatchback and am wondering where can I get upgrades for this little car? I do realize that this car is not the most sporty car around and therefore doesn't have a massive following of aftermarket support, but where can I find something cool for it like a little spoiler to go on the rear hatch? possibly an intake kit?

I will get pics of mine soon. it is stock at the moment, but I think that far into the future, I may eventually try to put a motorcycle engine in it. how possible might this be? I don't think that it would be too hard to find a motorcycle engine that makes more than 55HP/55ft/lbs of torque right? that's this car's stock output. but I don't think anything bigger than a motorcycle engine will fit in there.

so, any other metro owners? (like, I hope I'm not the only one or something! LOL)

really? the inline 4's or the 3-bangers like mine? can the little 3-cylinder motor handle a turbo? if so, what is the max boost pressure you would say is safe? some people I talked to told me the other day that if I tried to put a motorcycle engine in it (like one from a sportbike) that even if it had higher HP/torque values, I would run into numerous problems. most of them mentioned stuff like:

1. The motors output shaft that bolts to the transmission will not mate correctly with the car's 5spd tranny.

2. That the cars computer would not allow the motor to run correctly even if all of the sensors were connected where they should be, so I would need an aftermarket ECU??? (I really don't know much about those)

3. That if anything, I would need custom engine mounts.

4. A motorcycle engine would not pass emissions inspection for a car.

5. That the motor would probably only last 50,000 miles or so at best for car duty before biting the dust.

In addition I am wondering if the powerband would be all wrong for a car. are all of these issues true? or are some able to be worked around? I really wanna know. thanks for any input. oh, and I decided that I would make a custom spoiler for it sooner or later.

They seem to be nice Econo cars but if you want somthing small fast and cheap look at the Turbo Dodge's AKA the Omni GLH,Shelby Charger and so on and so forth.

hello metro owner. congradulations on a smart choice in purchasing this car. i have a 2000 chevy metro and would like to converse with you to find out what you have been doing to your car. i have done some interesting things also to mine. i have 90,400 miles on mine and am very happy with it. i dont think i will ever depart from it unless i have a accedent with it or something. it is nice to finally meet another metro owner that is interested in upgrading and then talking about it.
my name is barry and i live in south carolina.
i am 37
hope to hear from you soon

Do a search on the Pontiac Turbo Firefly. It's the metro's sister vehicle with the 3 cylinder turbo.

I haven't really changed anything about the car since I got it, but my friend said something interesting about using a stock mazda 2-rotor rotary engine in it. mainly because of their size and power output. I think that a motor swap like that would be waaaay far down the line, because at the moment I like the fact that the car gets about 40 mpg, that, and it would probably cost alot. nice to know that the stock motor can be turbo'd though...

one thing that I do wonder about metros is the tranny. do you think that the standard 5spd manual could handle a 200+ HP motor? I was checkin' out the axles and they look kinda thin. as of the moment the car lacks plates and insurance so, it's parked. there is one issue that I have been trying to figure out, and that is how to lower the idle speed. it's high (maybe 2-3K RPM, not sure because the car has no tach) and I can't figure out how to quiet it down. I think that the 99 and 2000 are the same pretty much. I have 85K miles on mine.

this being my first car, I want to make it stand out from some of the others, ya' know?

wow, that must be a custom chassis and custom... everything! that would be interesting converting it to rear wheel drive.

that had to be expensive... right now, I'm just trying to get the insurance together, a chassis conversion will have to wait... but that is undeniably cool.

I am pretty sure that this is a vid of that same metro (how many have that color scheme... and rwd!) its even faster than it looks.

There's a Yahoo groups for Metros.
It's a Suzuki Swift, None of it was designed in the US aside from the badges.

The Pontiac Firefly is Canada only, and the Turbo was an option. Not a worthwhile swap.

yeah, these cars go by like 5 names! Now that I've had more time to get to know this car, I think that it's best to leave it slow... with the suspension, and tires it has now, it doesn't like to be driven fast. it's just too light and I SWEAR I went airborne for a sec the other day, hitting a dip at 60 LOL!

One thing I've been worrying about is the clutch. I think that it's getting worn out or something. how do I know when it needs to be swapped for a new one? I don't want it to just quit one day.

EDIT: added pics of the car. the last one is of a crack in the windshield, to the left of the air freshener, but it's hard to see at that angle. (pics are okay for a cell phone cam) a snowplow threw something up from it's tires on the freeway today.
