you only need the zip ties for the stem (pointy end lol) so half a dozen sounds about right ,you glue the straight edges of the keel together first and wait till they are fully set before trying to bend the curved edges in.by the way im going to build a larger one in the new year for a weedy motor so ill be sure to keep you posted when i start.depending on the cc i get the boat will be between 48 inches and 60 inches long.
UPDATE just got a 28 cc engine off ebay heres a link to the same motor from another source but i got mine for £15 ,i think a 48 inch boat or just over should do,any advice on what hardware and where to buy it would be great also.http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Petrol-Strimmer-engine-aeroplane-boat-28-cc-new_W0QQitemZ130040253648QQihZ003QQcategoryZ71277QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

i just stiched the ply together in places with hot glue before resining.....had the whole boat stiched together (bar the deck) before i even open the resin......very fast way of doin it

the 48" will be easily big enough for a weedy motor...my one has a 30cc Tanaka weedy engine sitting in the 48" hull and the water only sits 1/3 the way up the transom...put on the power and she almost lifts out

have fun

hello
bently
not sure but don,t use the old method of the pipe coming out of the hulls bottom as i own a shallow v boat like yours and it keeps runing on the pipe .nice rudder set up .exit your shaft from the lowest possible are on the back plate .even engine angle is straighter than your set up.
reinforce the back plate are well.
nice boat.

Hi Bentley, looking good, the higher sides don't ruin the lines. Please tell me that you installed some flotation in the bow before you put the deck on
Another tip is to drill through the bulkheads and stringers at the join with the bottom sheets to allow water to run to the keel and stern of the boat.

hi Bentley im glad to see your getting her almost finnished!!,it may be too late but i put my tank in front of the engine in the central space between the rails i had maybe more room than you as mines nitro but i got a 16 oz tank in mine i made a small hatch so i can get in there if needed.good idea making the front bulkhead water tight i did mine and the two either side of my tank.heres a pic of how i did mine if its not too late you could do something similar.by the way in the new year i will be joining you in building a larger version of this boat for gas mine will be 52 inches long 16 wide for a 28 cc weedy,im going to maybe put a walb carb on it as it fits my engine apparently so i should be able to get her upto 30 mph or so not bad for a weedy.id like to see some more pics of youres especially of your hardware set up etc.good luck with the build.[image][/image]

Bentley, try here. Tank is on the port side just by the header, as near to the front/rear balance point as possible.

hi it doesnt matter at all where the engine goes as long as the boat balances at around 30% from the transome.some people say get it balanced so the plug is at the 30% mark but thats not allways possible as long as the boat is balanced at 30% it will be fine.balance it with an empty tank also ,obviously the closer you get the tank to the balance point the better but i find having it just in front of the engine works well for me.hope this helps mate ,by the way shes looking good so far.im thinking of lifting the sides on this boat the full length of it an inch at the transome maybe tapering down to half at the front.

To balance the boat first mount all the hardware and radio gear. Once you have worked out your balance point place a dowel across the boat at that point. Move the engine (with pipe if used) backwards and forwards until the boat balances. Mark that position and mount the engine there. The position of the sparkplug is irrelevant, balance is important.
For your boat I would suggest a balance point of 25-28% as you are using a weed whacker.

To work out the distance from the transom for your balance point

balance point (in) = (balance point (%) x boat length) / 100

For you with 28%, balance point (in) = (28 x 47) / 100 = 1316/100 = 13.16" from the transom.

Some people balance with a half full tank.

A good description including pics is here. Please note the different positions of the sparkplugs.
