Yeah, the gear is from my old Brio, and the wheel pants....you'll never believe where they came from

Parkzone Decathalon....yeah...

They are cheapo wheel pants made from plastic, but they seem to work well, and give the wheels more ground clearance. They also have tabs on them to keep them from rotating after they are installed. I also used the decat wheel axles, tapped and screwed into the brio gear. It works great.

OH yeah...
dont forget to catch the San Francisco Red Bull Air Races on Fox Sports Oct 15th at 3pm central and watch Kirby Chambliss kick some serious butt.
If you have COX cable...its channel 69 FSNFL

Love this plane.

Not totaly sold on the battery tray setup, but this is very minor problem. Also I feel the plane is a total dog with the E-flite 480. I added a (Torque 2818-900) from my good friends at Atlantahobbies and this plane really woke up. The 388 watts is just what this plane needed.

Stable, rock solid harriers, and elevators. Knife edges great.

This is a keeper at $89.00

Anbody try to stick an E-Flite power 10 motor into this? I bet that it would make this thing sick! Thats what they recommend for the brio, and the two are pretty similar.

I just bought one of these this weekend, excited about the weight shown on the package, just to find out that it'll come in 1.5 times that much when it's all RTF. So the motor I have laying around that I thought would be great for this plane will now only pull it around at about 90 - 100 W/lb. I've been thinking of using a 4s lipo, but couldn't find a suitable motor while browsing around.
Can someone help me please? What motor/prop combination will draw between 20 and 25amps on a 4s battery? Also, when using a UBEC, do you hook it up to the battery in parallel with the ESC, and plug the other end into a spare channel on the Rx?

**EDIT**

One more question:
Can the UBEC and ESC be hooked in parallel (Y harness) to the Rx as long as the (+) wire on the ESC is removed?

I like all my eflite motors too.

I wouldn't say this plane is a dog on the 480. I fly mine with the 480 and it flys fine.

I read an article about the brio 10, QQ said he used an E-Flite 480 witha 1320 lipo. I was thinking of using this setup for the Extra. How well do you guys think that would work?

Well, you can go one of two ways. Prop it in order to get wot under 27A* and be very conservative on throttle. The other is to prop it down so it draws 17-20A wot to remove a little of that electric throttle guilt. either way it will work but the flights won't be very long unless you really take advantage of your light wing loading and just float around slowly.

I'd be affraid not to have the self controll required to limit wot usage to a few seconds every 2 minutes on the hot setup so i'd go with the second if i were you.

One more thing, there are two different windings of the 480, wich one do you have?

*edit: yes on the 1320's assuming we are talking about a broken in thunder power 1320mah lipo that gets ballanced when charged, or alternatively a 1320 of another make with equal or higher C ratings that is also well maintained.

I use the 12x6 APC on my 910kv 480. Its the best prop Ive found so far. Works great.
Nice verticals, will hold a hover. Decent punchout power.

Ive flown mine on lipo's as small as the Cellpro 3cell 1250mAh 15C battery.
It works fine, the battery temps are still below 120 even with a fairly aerobatic flight
My favorite battery in it though is the VampPowerBatts 3cell 2250mAh lipo.
I get long flight times around 15 min for all out 3D and aerobatic crazyness with the 2250mAh

I have had this extra 300 for a while now with the park 480 outrunner I decided to put the power 10 in it and a new esc. I did all the mods so the battery would go back further and cut down the motor mount for the 10. Checked it on the watt meter all looked good. First flight and about 8 seconds in the air and my speed controller bunded up at the curcit wher the wires come out that go the the rx, down went the plane Horizon was very nice and replace the esc and sent me a new extra. Now i am back in business got it all together last night and flew it several times today. It was nice with the 480 but now it rocks with the power 10 flys very good at half throttle where before I was at 3/4 throtle for the same perfomance. Vertical is as long as you can hold it or till it becomes a tiny dot lol

Hobby-Plane-rc , I wish I could give you the answer to your question on the better plane for 3-d I have both and they both are GREAT!! flying planes. I am not that good at 3-d style flying yet but I can say both my extra 300 and Mini Funtana X are awsome.
I realy don't know which one I like the best... they both rule.

hey Badboy What prop are you using with your power 10 motor? Right now I am running apc 11x7e and was thinking of trying a 12x6e, If you have tried both letme know which one os best.
I ran a 11x7e on my mini Funtana X with the park 480 and finaly made to the LHS and got a 12x6e for it, Made a world a differnce in that plane.
