Hi All,

Well yesterday I put together my Draganflyer and decided to test it out. They did forget to send me 8 nylon screws for the rotor blades and instead only sent 4. I went and bought 4 more metal ones until they ship me the rest. It was a very windy day but I really wanted to try out my new heli. For my first attempt, I decided to try it out in our barn (obviously no Ti in there). I had 3 pretty good hovers. My fourth flight I tried maneuvering around a bit though and came to close to the wall so I let off the throttle all the way. Not a good idea, as it dropped about 5 feet to the ground. Nothing was broken.

Next I decided to move outside even with the wind. I could only get one LED to come on for the Ti but I figured that was better than none. I had 6 or 7 pretty good flights only about 10 or 20 seconds long because the wind kept taking it to the trees and I would have to back off. I definately need practice with the simulator because once it spins I become disoriented. I actually made it turn upside down twice. On my last flight, I landed pretty hard and broke a motor mount. Looks like I will have to unsolder the motor to put the new mount on.

I have a couple questions. In order to let Ti take over do I just let off the controls and it should do the rest besides the throttle? I'm unsure when I should be using the Ti switch on the remote. When I flew in the barn, I followed the steps in the manual for flying without Ti but it never mentions the Ti switch.

Anyway, I definately need to wait until there is no wind for my next attempt and make sure my Ti is working. It seemed like my Draganfly needed quite a bit of input to stay in a hover.

When there is considerable wind, you don't want to be taking your fingers off the sticks even with Ti activated, especially when you're learning. Wind is not something you need to be learning in either. You will be doing alot of repairs if you keep trying to learn to fly in wind because there's so much more correction needed and your reflexes just aren't developed enough to react to make corrections to fly in wind. Remember if it's cloudy you won't get good Ti and sometimes on damp grass you won't get it either. I've found the best results for constistent perfect Ti is on concrete or asphault. Then that's not guaranteed if you drift or fly over wet grass or something else with a considerable temperature difference to possibly cause erratic flight characteristics. These are things you'll have to learn about over time.

Yeah I knew wind was not something I should try on my first flight but I couldn't resist trying out the DF. I will be sure to practice with the simulator over the next week or so and then try the DF out again on a sunny windless day. Either way I am in love with the thing already and can't wait to try it again.

Yep, it is addictive! It doesn't have to be sunny, just not predominantly cloudy. I've flown with partial cloudiness with good results. You can fly with heavy clould cover and with partial Ti but the DF acts like it's taken a whole bottle of Demerol and will just be all over the place. Then if it's mostly cloudy and windy, you are very likely to crash. Believe it or not try flying at night in a well lit area like a shopping center parking lot. The wind tends to die down right before and after sunset. We've talked about this in this thread. The DF flies very well at night and when it's cold too. The motors don't get as hot and the denser air provides more lift without working the motors as much.

Does the simulator software that came with my draganfly really work? Is there an actual draganflyer model in there that behaves similar to our DF? I installed it last night but didn't have a chance to try it out yet.

I haven't seen the latest version. But I think it's better than nothing at least to see how the DF acts when hovering a foot or so off the ground. It lets you see what to expect from inputs and learn about orientation before crashing the real thing. Of course, the simulator is not going to prepare you for real wind.

It does work pretty good, you can enter windspeed and direction.
You do have to change the setting in the software as discribed in manual and callibrate the interface first.
Im at flight 4, so im not well experienced either, its cool to have a forum to exchange this.
