Status: offline 		I just received my new 5955TG servos and was quite surprised to find that they come with plastic arms.

The 5925/45 servos I bought a while back had a metal arm included in the little bag and I would have thought that a super-strong servo like the 5955TG would also have included one as standard equipment.

I've been told that it's not a good idea to use the 5955TG with plastic arms on a larger (35-40%) model because plastic simply isn't rigid or strong enough and there's the added risk that the plastic spline will strip under load.

Is this really the case?

if so, why ship the strongest servo in your arsenal without an arm that can handle that torque -- while shipping aluminum arms with the 5925/45 series?

Status: offline 		The plastic arms included with the 5955 are heavy duty and will withstand normal usage in any application the servo in intended for. The aluminum arm included in the 5925/5945's in the past are only .75" which was deemed to be almost useless for giant scale. Thus, we opted for the assortment of horns that we now include vs. a single aluminum.

I'm putting them in a 35% gasser on rudder and elevator. This will be a 3D-capable plane that will be flown as a 3D-capable plane should be.

Is that covered?

I ask because some of the "expert" sites like TroyBuilt Models expressly warn against the use of the plastic arms that come with the 5955TG servos. Specifically, they sate "Servo arms must be aluminum or they will strip on the servo's splined shaft."

Who am I to believe? The people who make the servos (but who won't provide compensation for the horrific losses produced if the spline in a plastic arm strips) -- or the folks who sell a snot-load of giant scale stuff as their core business (albeit some of that stuff includes metal servo arms :-)?

I am aware of several modelers utilizing the Hitec composite arms on large (40%) gas powered models without issue, albeit there ganged surfaces. I use them on a 27% 3D model without problems too. Thing is a little common sense is in order I suspect, i.e. reasonable linkage ratios with mechanical advantage comes to mind.

Yes and or a wing with multiple servos. I don't recall absoultely on the elevators, I'll inquire.

It would be great if they are able to be used on a wing let's say with dual servos.

In a thread from January 2005 named, " Hitec Digital Servo Programmer vs Futaba Tx"

you mentioned liking the ratio of 1.25" servo arm, to 1.75" control arm length.

Would this fit into your category above where you say, "reasonable linkage ratios with mechanical advantage"

Status: offline 		I am using HS5955TG around and two per aileron on a 36% AW Katana.
Using the plastic arms included see pictures. They work fine, I even blocked the aileron and deflected them and they lifted
the entire front of the plane up off the ground. I like the centering, speed and power of these servos.

Just for my own information, is your engine a shaker, or is it fairly smooth at idle?
My engines for some reason shake, rattle and roll

Direct from the horses mouth below...

I'm using them on my 40% Extra, with 5945's, with no issues whatsoever. ON my MX-2 I'm using the SWB arms on elevator, the stock composite arms on rudder, and a mix of short composite-long aluminum for the ailerons.

I have experienced zero problems with the composite ares, in any application where I have used them.

My DA100 is smooth, I balance the prop at several positions, 12,1:30,3,4:30,6 etc.
Takes about 30 to 60 minutes overall. The shakes is not good for any electronic device.
Well worth the time to balance the prop.
I have a 14mz with the new 5014 rx and the little digital servo hum i had is now gone with the better resolution
and adjustments of the new radio system. The deadband is default on all the servos.
I thought the hs5955tg servos were fast with my old 9z but the 14mz makes them sing.
