Hello 82,

Here you go, The gear plate I made for my Ziroli P-51 to fit the Sierra main gear.
You will have to scale it up on your computer as it wont print to scale.
Use your gear to size it up.

Regards,
Dan Crawford

Hey all

How are you guys mounting your wing servos..like on the plan straight up and down, or sideways? I have never had straight up and down...I guess the whole servo arm sticks out of the wing and you just drill a hole for the servo arm base only? Must be a real tight fit that way?

Pro and cons on these anyone?

M

Hey Dan

Still looking for cockpit photos? Here's a shot I found...pretty hip! Ended up finding an actual P-51 pilot on ebay...here he's checking out the cockpit, the Brison 5.8 and the Sierra retracts that just arrived!

Another good day of flying today - John and Peter Gilezellis were at the field too - pretty top notch TOC 3D they can do!

Capt G,

Please send me all the info you can on the 3 pice wing build as I think I am going to build a new wing just like yours. I want to keep the center of the wing on the fuse so the fuse sits on its gear all the time. I just had to send my Ford Explore SUV back as payments are to much for me as I cant work any more. We are down to my wifes car so the 98'' wing will not fit.

Regards,
Dan Crawford

Sorry about your car and for not getting back sooner. The weather has been great and I've been flying the H-9 1.50 P-47 - a lot. I decided to split the wing just outboard of the gear. This meant I had to make 6 extra #6 ribs. I used the existing "paper tube" holes to install 1" Carbon Fiber wing tubes (Gator RC). The anti- rotation pins are 3/16 and there is a 5/32 pin to join the flap segments together. The open hatch shows where the 10/24 bolt goes into the blind nut to hold the wing pieces together (follow the ball driver). I basically clamped all the ribs together and used the drill press for the holes. They came out great. I reinforced the wing tube where it goes through the ribs with lite ply "donuts" on either side top to bottom. Very strong this way. The white servo tubes are 1/2" cardboard rocket tubes by Estes - pack of six from Hobby Town. The aileron and flap servos will be screwed to hatches in the bottom of the wing(s) - yet to be installed - with just the servo arm protruding vertically.

Question for those who used the Robart 145 Retracts. What method did you use to cover the big square hole where the gear pivots yet still have access for gear removal?

Capt G,

I think a lot of people mold fiberglass over the gear and make a fiberglass hatch that screws in place. Just like if you were making gear doors.

Hi

That 3 piece wing assembly looks great Capt G!

Hey talking about wire, plywood types and stuff you are using for strength...what is the difference between Music Wire and Stainless Steel... I found some good stainless steel 3/16 with threads on one end, but not music wire.
Also, I know you are usually supposed to use 1/4 "Aircraft Ply" I believe for the retract mounts...is aircraft ply just "Birch" with a smooth finish and regular craft ply and is a cheaper wood with a rough finish, or is there more to it with the ply making process , glues etc. that it actually has to say "Aircraft" on it.

Hey what is that yellow seperation stripe on the cockpit panel I see a lot...usually see it only on the actual origianal wartime P-51's.
