Hi P-51 lover's,

I just got done cutting out all of my parts for my new Ziroli 98" P-51.
It only took me 3 days to cut and on day 5 I have the fuse framed and the stab framed.
I call to Nick Ziroli and odered all the fiberglass parts and the canapy. Next will be to get the gear and the wheels, then frame up the vert stab and the wing FUN WOW!! here are some pic's
sorry for the mess in the in the back of the pic but it is dark outside so I had to take the pic's
in the back room. more to come.

Regards,
Dan Crawford

Hi,

As you can see in pic 5 I used 1/4x1/4 hard wood for the stab spar's as I do not trust
balsa spars in a giant scale tail.

I am looking forward to your build. For some reason the Z.P51 is a seldom modeled plane. How close is the scale outline on the Z kits?

Ram-bro,

Thank you, I know that it is not 100% scale but it is not far off. As far as I know the only
100% scale P-51 is Dave platt's but it is a small plane.

Dan Crawford

Good work! It looks like you're moving along well. If I were to build a P-51, this is the one I would do. Nick Ziroli is a great designer.

Hi all,

Well I got out to the shop tonight for a little work on the Ziroli P-51. I sheeted the top deck
and built a nice cockpit tub out of 1/8 balsa, When my Robart 160 tail wheel comes in I will
install the pushrods and sheet the rest of the fuse. I also instaled the firewall, I went with a
3/4 firewall as if I go with a bigger engine I did not want to be stuck with a 1/2" firewall.
Here are some more pic's I think they came out ok you all tell me!

Regards,
Dan Crawford

Hi all,

Any of you scale builders out there have any nice pic's of your P-51 cockpits you can post.
I am going to scratch build my cockpit out of balsa and plastic, I know I can go online and
get a cockpit but it would not be the same as building one with my own two hands.
What is a little hard work, I do not work any more as I have terminal cancer so im home all day
so what the hell!! Plesae post your cockpit pic's any help would be good.

Regards,
Dan Crawford

Dan, its looking good. Sorry to hear about your cancer, I am sure we will keep you in our prayers. Boy I can see when you get to the wing....your gonna be looking for room. Wish I had some pics of a good cockpit for you. Glad to see you are doing everything from scratch, puts those HDas to shame ( high dollar arfs) You should check out my thread and spread some of that wisdom and skill.

WOW, what a great project, I look forward to reading this as you progress. What engine is typically used in this size plane? I'm guessing an 80 or inline 100. I have a TF P-51 that I have lost the will to build at the moment. I sure do enjoy looking at how others can do it.

Ram-bro,

I to am sick of all the ARF'S, no one builds from scratch any more. We live in a world of
do things fast, No one uses there skills any more.

To (Ken Bryant,)

Thank you, Im having fun with this P-51 build. I am going to use a G-62 gas engine
as that is the engine Ziroli shows in the plans. I will not be on the net for the next 2 days
as my computer is going on the blink so it will be in the shop, I will post more pic's then

Regards,
Dan Crawford

Dan this is one of my 3 favorite warbirds and yours looks great. We havent morphed a mustang yet but if we do I hope its one built from Nick's plans. I am going to be glued to this tread and I too plan on going to WOD, hope to see you there.
