Hi All
I am the proud owner of a Savage X truck, I am an beginner and have problems with Tuning the engine as per the Manual, I believe the tuning was meant to be set at Sea Level, our atmospheric pressure is 84 KPA abs. Anybody please advise.
Savage greetings

the factory settings arent for a specific altitude, nor will one setting worke very day you run it, these engines have to be tuned every time you get them out, this is a really common question so do a search on tuning and you should get plenty of results

anyone know about flatspots I have a hpi savage 4.6 it was all tuned up running like a dream doing wheelies on command then i put a supercharger on it retuned it ran insane top end but could not do wheelies anymore now i have took it off re tuned and i have flat spot starting just over half way.
now i thought to myself maybe the air filters(k&n) blocked so i cleaned it out but no diffrence i have a new fuel filter so i dont think any blockage there and the good thing about the k46 engine is if you have played with the tuning to reset back to factory settings just screw back to flush can anyone help me i need this sorted asi have a nx express nitrous oxide kit coming(well i sold the supercharger on ebay) anyone else tried this yet let me know cheers cheekyman

For anyone who wants to learn the basics of tuning nitro engines, check out these vids from JayC1968:

Savage Tuning 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oSmMzpZM_As

Savage Tuning 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BJFsJAxNoRg

Thanks JayC1968 for these vids. They speak way more than what anyone can type. The sounds of the engines in these vids are nearly impossible to describe when trying to write tuning instructions.

You did the right thing by getting rid of that pesky super charger. I assume it was the RD Innovaions (or is it RB? I cannot remember). I am surprised they still sell those things; a super charger on a 2 stroke engine is as useful as a corn cob up...never mind.

As far as N2O (or "NOS" ) for your K4.6, don't bother with that either. It will not help your engine any better than the supercharger did.

Anyways, when you say flat spot, do you mean that the engine does not accelerate like it used to at more than half trigger pull? Or do you mean you have a flat spot in performance once the engine is turning more than half of its max RPM (i.e. about 17000RPM and higher)?
Either of these problems can be caused by the accessories that came with the supercharger that you still have on your engine. Put everything that was stock back onto your K4.6 (remove the supercharger neck and reinstall the stock air filter neck, put the stock exhaust manifold and pipe back on, etc.). Retune again with all the stock stuff back on. If that does not help, pull out the needles and check the o-rings. Replace if necessary and lube the O-rings with Associated Green Slime and replace them. If that is still a problem, take off the carb, clean it as best as possible and inspect it. Then reinstall it (while you are doing this, go ahead and seal the carb neck with RTV seal).

Good luck on the nitrous kit. I would suggest you make sure they have a 100% satisfaction gaurantee policy. This is so that if you are not pleased with the results, you could send it back and get your money back (I personally would since I do not have much money to begin with).

Anyways, when you experiment with the nitrous kit, be conservative with it and don't push your K4.6 past its breaking point.

can anyone tell me if this was the cause of my flat spot at high revs
the oneway bearing was also going on my k4.6 engine so to change it you have go into the bottom of the engine and when i did i noticed a slither of metal so i took it out and turned the engine to see the piston move and found it had come from the bottom of the piston where the piston pin goes to the crank arm so now i have ordered a piston sleeve and a crank arm but can anyone tell me the best way to strip the engine down to change these parts and also was this the cause of my flat spot
cheers
