I ran the motor in some yesterday and adjusted the carb and she seems to be a good strong pulling motor. Ran a tank through on the ground with the cowling off, by the end of the tank it had a very consistent idle of about 1800 and would hold that for days I believe. Never got hot! Towards the end of the tank I tweaked the high needle, turning a strong 6000 with a NX 23-8 on a Bisson Wrap around Pitts. I believe this to be respectable for the first tank reading???
I know the canister setups would work much better and may move to one at a later date but for the current bird I believe this setup will prove more than adequate. Wild Hare Extra 300 16 1/2 lbs.

Thanks Greg,
Look at my support forum for the tests with MTW canisters if you need to compare.
I like the performance of a 20x10 3 blade mejzlik prop on this engine.

Pe

What revs are you pulling with the 3 blade 20x10?

Changed to a 22 X 8 NX prop, did not touch the needles, still no time on engine and tached at 6500. Put the 16 lb 6 oz bird in the air and the MVVS 45 pulls quite strong, multiple vertical snaps and climbs out of sight.
Pe' or anyone else who can answer this, with a inverted engine install what header will put a TDH 75 midline for a Wild Hare Extra? Thanks.

Any place I can get a good size MVVS engine decal for the cowling on my Extra? I want to display my engine choice, I am tired of being asked if it is a EVO, arrrg.

The VA -DB series has been adapted by MTW to include the MVVS range lately.
see http://www.mvvs.nl/MTW/Headers.htm , way down the page for the VA -DB 2

MVVS has new decals available with a large 4" multicolor logo.

I have a question, I have run about 1.5-2 gallons through my MVVS 45, I cannot get the idle down low enough to keep the model from pulling away...If I trim it down anymore she dies, yet after flying it will idle down. My question is this, is the motor still too tight to idle down and take more run time to achieve this?? Or do I need to tweak the low needle more??
It has great throttle response and pulls great, no hesitation, every other aspect it great!!!

What is the idle rpm? Prop size? Pitch?
If the idle mixture is rich enough, you can go as low as 1200 rpm, though I like my engines around 1500 rpm.
Just adjust lower and lower, and adjust the idle needle for stable operation and acceleration at the lower rpm.
A higher idle is safer though, so do not strive for solutions that may bring more woe than joy.

Pe' I am using a 22X8 NX wood prop, turning in the mid to upper 6K range, and idle right 2000. Yeah it has performed great so I have not bothered witih it, but would like to get the idle down enough that the model is not trying to run away on its own hehehe.
I need to put a longer arm at the throttle to get better resolution, this would probably help a lot, I am still running the stock arm..

All the small things together help a lot.
I have my servo arm nearly aligned with the servo bottom in order to get best resolution. I also lengthen the carb lever, and unhook the return spring (but leave it in place)
With this setup, I have a large servo displacement around idle, and short displacements near full throttle. The power curve thus is more linear. I do not fly 3D, but still want to have stick response linear.

I traded a overweight underpowered ZDZ 60 for another MVVS 45, this one has a bit of time on it, spins a 22 X 10 Bolly CF prop with a BCM wrap around pitts muffler at 7300.

My 45 is running great, 7300 with BCM wrap around pitts muffler, 22 X 10 CF Bolly. I am happy with how she runs..
Need to tweak the needles a bit... Seems I have the low speed a bit too rich, she burbles a tad bit on the low end.. I have noticed I can adjust the needles without the cowling and it is obviously a bit different than what she runs like with the cowling on.

burbling near idle (the lower 1/3rd throttle part) is normal for two strokes. If you go leaner on the idle you will run into lean high speed issues.

Just got home from first flight using a MTW 75 (short fat) canister muffler on my MVVS 45 installed in a WH Yak. 3 words, HOLY SMOKES BATMAN!!!! This engine came ALIVE! Ripping a 22X8 Bolly wood prop on straight passes... Big improvement over the BCM wrap around pitts muffler. On ground turned 7350, same prop on my other MVVS 45 with a BCM wrap around pitts was turning 6700.. And did I mention this is a brand new engine out of the box with the canister on it and the other has 2-3 gallons?!!
Quiet as a church mouse too.
