I managed to spray the wings today with the first coat of Polybrush. Dust on a tack coat followed by a wet coat without making any runs, I found this somewhat impossible, one thing I did discover is the first coat is much like fine wine, it does get better as it ages. As the Polybrush dries, it's looks bettter and better. I was somewhat disapointed while it was wet. Next I will add the stitching and tapes.

Sprays like water doesnt it Looking at the diagram you posted on the brakes, yes they are deep like that to allow for baloon tires. If you were to look at the drawing and draw a straight line at the bead of the tire you will notice that the brake hub does stick out more than what would look like normal.
I got done painting my Utter Chaos with all basecoat clearcoat colors over fiberglass cloth and finishing resin. Here are a couple of pictures (dont mean to hijack your thread with non-Cub pictures - So I'll throw in a cub tailwheel pic for you also)

OK here are the hubs (With brake drums) and a tape measure so you can see the dimensions if needed. The brake hub shown in the other pictures with the brake pads fits inside the wheel hub on the inboard side. And with that, this will be the end of the brake pictures unless someone needs something in more detail.

Maiden flight of a 20 year old BUSA 1/4 scale Cub this past weekend. Old O.S. twin rocker cover 120 four stroke pulled it around great. I have another thread with flying video.

How is the Super Cub build coming? We haven't heard anything in quite a while...the brake discussion seemed to put the brakes on the thread.

Nice plane and camera work. Looks like a keeper.

After spraying the first coat of Polybrush, I decided better facilities are in order to complete the final finishing. I can paint cowls and wheel pants at home, this plane more on the order of front end of a car. Condidering options . In the mean time I decided to rework by 37 1/2% One Design. Check it out.

Hi, I'm using the same stuff on my 30% Stearman (Polybrush) If you did not know it yet it is much easier to lay down the pinked tape by just running your finger along the tape wet with polybrush as you lay it out. Then if you have any pinked ears sticking up wait till the poly brush is dry and run your sealing iron ouver the tape at 250 degrees NO HIGHER and that will seal down any loose ears. I then use white glue to simulate the "stiches" I just mark out the distance (3/8 inch @ 30%) and dip the "T" head of a "T" pin into a small amount of glue and touch it to the desired mark. Takes forever but when glue dries it makes the stitch bump look very scale. You don't want a lot of glue.just a hint of a stitch is all it takes. I have 4 wing panels to do and it takes about 3.5 hours to get both sides done on the 4 panels. Then the color coat will cover the glue and your stitching job is done. Don't try to brush the polybrush on the tape as you go.the brushing will cause the tape to move on you .
Hope this helps you

Thanks, I will use the finger instead of the brush once I get back to it. I was planning the brush route per Stits instructions. The little I have worked with tapes so far, I can see working with brush is a pain. I'm using glue under the tapes. Have you tried that?

I finished the One Design and have decided to convert part of my garge into a spray booth to finish the Cub. I need more room in my garge so the Vega got to go to the body shop, I hope to get the car out in the next two weeks so I can finish this project, I'll be back.

Well the two weeks turned into two months, I got about 400 miles on the Vega and still waiting for the painter to call. Fall is in the air here in wertern PA so it's time to get back to work. I taped one wing today, all in all it took about 8 hours of work, on to the the next wing. I did use the method suggested by SoCalSal, brush on a coat of Polybrush, lay the tape in and rub it down with your finger followed bt a coat of Polybrush on top. Maybe this weekend I will spray another coat of Polbrush on the wings
