Tony,
Check with Jim and Dondi Miller of Aircraft Tech Support located just south of Columbus, OH. They are factory Authorized distributers for Poly-fiber ( www.poly-fiber.com ) and Randolph Dopes ( www.randolphdopes.com ). Their toll free number is 1-877-877-3334. I believe that the both Aero-thane and Ranthane REQUIRE a fresh air source respirator. You may have this equipment already and know about the hazards of using polyurethe coatings, but one can't be too carefull.

The tubing arrived yesterday so I got back to work on the exhaust, nobody in the USA stocks 20 mm K&S tubing so the complete system is made up from 22 mm tube. Just made fitting things in a little more difficult. I am pleased with the results. Each outlet is attached with a 4-40 screw through the existing muffler exit, once the floor is finshed off, I will add a strap to support the rear of the exhaust system. Both pipes will get sealed with Hi Temp RTV on final assembly.

gnirwin, Thanks for the compliment, this build has taken me places I've never been before, kinda enjoying it. I think it easier building a larger scale model as the details are not as small, I don't think I could put the same effort forth on a 1/5 scale. You live just west of me, maybe our paths will cross someday? Till then.

I needed to provide a channel for the exhaust pipe. I made a small fixture using a 1 1/2" wing tube, covered with scrap Monokote, one coat of wax, two layers of fiberglass cloth and epoxy. Finished the hole off with 1/8" lite ply and fit the fiberglass channel. Tommorow I'll install the rear support for the exhaust system and that should pretty much wrap this chapter up.

I turned brake drums and backing plates out of 2" diameter aluminum stock. Once weather breaks here in Western PA I hope to spray some Polybrush, it just too cold right now. Until then I'm getting parts ready for paint.

Hi, my name is Frank Mustari, I have built and flown two super cub 1/3 scale by balsa usa. If you want I can send you pictures of the cockpit interior I did. It inlcudes working joy sticks, that move in unison with the flying surfaces, also the throttle moves when you move the throttle stick on the radio, I've also built working rudder pedals ( again they work whenever the rudder stick is moved on the radio) also I've built side panels. I'll be glade to share the same with you.

The brakes looks great. I’m working on a set for my L-4 but making them from alumilite. I also would love to see the photos of the working controls. Looks like I’m still in line to get my L-4 finished for Toledo.

Gary, The photo is the original expander tube brakes, I took this photo while visiting the Piper Museum, really not sure what aircraft it's on to be honest, I really couldn't find much about these brakes on the web. Attached is a pdf of the gear from the Super Cub site, I made my gear look like the drawing rather the photo although the photo is close. I did see a original set of brakes on ebay but it didn't help me much. The plane will be painted like an original model as it rolled off the line, a little different from the traditional scheme, I don't remember the year right now. Please post some photos of your plane once you get started, once boating season starts here, the Miller Light starts to flow, quality drops!
