so is it worth it? or.. should i go cheap route and buy the rtr, and replace the engine, pipe, chasis, towers, and steering servo? :P

That's a waste of money for sure. The RTR looks cheap too.

Mines together. Pretty straightforward.
More observations:

Not only is there a clunker in the tank, but ther elooks to be a piece of plastic that screws out or something, inside. I assume you take it out and it now holds more fuel.

I was pretty curious about that screw in the fuel tank and it doesn't say anything about it in the manual. I'm not sure if i'm going to like this clunker much. Even when the tank just gets low it might keep jumping out of the fuel and sucking in air. This of course isn't an airplane and by no means a smooth ride.

I would have liked some of the tolerances to be a little better but I like things being perfect. The shock pistons had a bit of play inside the cylinder. The pin on the rear diff that one of the bevel gears goes to was a tiny bit to small for the hole in the output shaft but it wont be hurting anything.

Maybe I missed something, but the RTR looks like it has different towers, and a different radio tray. I can't see if the chassis is different or not, but if the RTR gets the same chassis (doubtful) I would rather buy the RTR just to avoid threading screws into new plastic components.

One could pick up a set of towers from E-bay, and sell off the engine, radio, servos and hand starter, to get some scratch for better gear. Its alot more work, but that is how much I hate tapping plastic. Dissasembly and re-build is easy after it has been put together the first time.

My decision on which to buy hinges on whether the chassis is different, and what (if any) other parts are downgraded.

The chasis on the kit is milled, same with the towers, and has tini hinges, and chances are, the plastics are a BIT stiffer...

i just bought an 8ight about 45 minutes ago from RCBoca Hobbies.... the thing is great! Chassis on this thing is VERY think! i have the steering assembly together and it all fit perfect. The only thing that bugs me so far is how small the hex screw heads are (the actual hole in the screw not the screw itself) They might tend to strip easily. Everything looks great.

i just built the arms and carriers... went together very smoothly accept for one of the grooves in one of the cvds is a little too tight... this makes it so that the cvd doesnt spin freely in all directions. I think that it will wear and it wont matter however i am going to e-mail losi and see what they say. Ill be shure to let you all know what their reply is.

A few of my CVDs were like that too Ice. Some of the tolerance on the parts isn't all that great. The diffs are kind of weird (atlease mine seem to be). After you build them and they sit for a little while they tighten up for no reason at all. Nothings binding and they are built correctly but I guess this is why Losi tells you to break in the diffs.

I love the servo tray! Its only held in with 4 bolts on the bottom of the chassis. There are no posts or anything and its all one piece but you still have easy access to anywhere on the tray and you can keep the wires hidden. I still need to finish this point series that I'm in but after that I'll have the engine and electronics fom my Kyosho in this Losi.

It looks good Dave!

I just need to prepare for tomorrow and then I'll start tooling around with the kit. Very nice that it comes with extra springs and swaybars. I hope I have SAE tools......

Looking good Dave! Bring it out tomorrow and race it. With no engine or electronics, I'm almost certain to beat you!

super dave i have to agree: the parts finish isnt great, its good. Its nothing major...just a little extra flashing here and there. my diffs are very nice and smooth but i havent had them sitting that long eather. im happy with it so far. i love the build... god that chassis is thick
