Has anyone built and flown these two 0.40 pusher prop designs by Mike Pastro in RCM magazine? One was the CT-114 Tutor Snowbird and the other F/A-18 fighter jet.

If you haven't already, you may want to post this question in a different forum, such as the scale one or even at rcgroups.com in order to reach a broader audience. I own a set of these plans, but haven't built yet.

I built and flew the 40 size F-18. It was a great model, it flew great. The take offs were a bit trickey though with the narrow stance of the main gear as I made mine retractable. Looked great in the air.

Mine crashed due to radio problems of some sort. Started rolling and could not stop it, finally went in.

May build another one sometime.

I built and flew his A 10. I also saw the article fo the Snowbird, and it looked very similar in construction. My A 10 flew very well and I had a great time building it. Hope that helps

Jim,

I sold one of these F18s many many years ago, i was nice Hornet, since then i have been looking for one but nothing popped up yet.

Ask John in your club, he and few of his friends built pusher Tutors with .45 engines on the tail, it flew awsome at Leamington jet rally earlier in the year....I want one of those too but he dosen't have plans or left over projects that i would tackle on .

Cheers,
Sammy

Jim

I built and flew the 60 F-18, mine is with a 91VR-DF and 11x7 pusher. Fast and meneuverable. Construction is a lot easy and cheap. Scale looks are fine.

Had some problems with the plans on the F/A-18 recently obtained from RCM. Seems they sort of altered the scale factor from sheet to sheet. 'least on the ones I had.

Parts for this A/C are available via Alex.

I recall a couple of months ago on Ebay or was it the Edmonton Radio Control Club site, a F-18 was being sold.

Mike Pastro's .60 size F18 was the prototype for the G&P Sales F18 pusher. Bill Price manufactures these in Washington or Oregon I believe......His is a fiberglass fuse with foam core wings and flies great also.....There was a build thread in the Extreme Speed Prop planes forum.....

Making some changes to the design in solidworks. The original design did not have a removable wing. Discussed it with the local club members at the last meeting, pretty much in agreement a bolt on wing would be a simplier design change than a wing tubes. Also less expensive. Still deciding on retracts or not. Only have the sides, top and bottom partially modeled. Need the vertical fins and stab next.

Well, I've decided to build the 0.40 version of the F-18 Hornet. Already have a fuel pump, and a super tigre 0.40 or 0.51 waiting on the shelf. I've built smaller planes from plans before but nothing in the 0.40 size range. This will be fun. Like the others say, start off by creating yourself a kit.

Stay tuned.
