Status: offline 		What a pity! I cannot help but wonder how it happened. It appears as though the starboard engine had quit and the pilot was coming in to land only to have those two at the end of the runway.

Status: offline 		One of the engines quit on the down wind leg after takeoff and they didn't quite make the turn back to the field. I'm not sure who's plane it was but it was nice with electric starters on the engines and a rotating turret on top. The guy whose leg it clipped was ok.
The guy that took the video was from the Chattanooga, Tn area. His name was Allen but I didn't catch his last name.

Status: offline 		Looks to me they made the turn back to the field fine, but pilot error, and standing on the runway versus in the pilot stations were the problems.. Looks like it was a nice plane..

Status: offline 		yup, i think the guy had it made until his spotter grabbed his arm. looked like it would have rolled out behind the flight line though....hard to tell what was behind him off screen.

Status: offline 		I missed the guy was pulling on the pilots left arm.
I guess saving your friend is important, but that action was a contributing factor in the crash.
Landing that close is dangerious.
Does anyone know the final result and what the pilot thought caused the crash?

Status: offline 		Definitely a shame, good looking model. I'm thinking that for some reason, the pilot took off standing behind the plane rather than using one of the flight boxes, and that's why he and his spotter were STILL on the runway when he had to land.

The spotter DID grab his arm, but I don't feel that contributed to the crash. Looking at the clip you can see that when the pilot tried to flair, the right wing was down and the plane was turning to the right, BEFORE the spotter grabbed the pilot's arm. The spotter was trying to keep the pilot from getting hit, because the plane was already off course, actually going BEHIND where the pilot was standing, and heading toward the flight stations. Watch the pilot, as the plane approaches, he takes a couple steps back, then realizes the plane is going behind him, and jumps out of the way.

It's a BIG loss of a good looking bird, but the best thing is that the spotter wasn't seriously hurt.

Status: offline 		Tim you were right they were behind the plane when it took off and quickly moved to the edge of the runway when one engine quit. There were two guys flying the plane with two different radios and two helpers. I'm not sure how the piloting duties where divided between the two radios.

Status: offline 		I saw them fly at montgomery. If i remember right, 1 radio controls basic flight controls and the other radio controls the electric starts on the engines, chokes, turret and gear doors?

The plane lost the right engine, it twisted to the right as a result of the uneven thrust.

That was not intentional

Status: offline 		I couldn't hear the audio, no speakers at work, but... most likely scenario... he got slow and low, added power on the operating left engine without coordinated rudder/aileron input (though he was slow enough he may have been below VMCA, or the min control speed for given configuration), and as a result he got the yaw and bank you see in the video that he couldn't recover from. It takes careful coordination on the rudder with 2 engine birds with non-centerline thrust. The same thing has happened to full-scale airplanes like the C-130 several times... you can't get outside the envelope with engines out.

Status: offline 		If that was the pilot at the edge of the field, why in the world did he move to that spot? He was going to hit himself, had the airplane not veered right from what I think was the right wing stalling/snapping simply due to pulling to much elevator. I don't think they had the flaps on which is necessary to slow the plane down to a decent landing speed. It came in pretty fast, but not fast enough to take the flare and snapped right. The spotter yanking his left arm could cause him to give left rudder, but I doubt it. Looks to me like a Darwin award or two are in order here: Pilot flyes B25 to hit himself, spotter tryes to save pilot but by doing this causes the plane to hit himself.

Status: offline 		I think the pilots first mistake was cutting the running engine to idle. That increased the drag on the airplane, as a stopped prop has less drag than one running at idle. It also must have been a bit heavy with features like onboard engine starting and operating turrets. Finally, he should have left the gear up until he was stabilized on the final approach, again more drag when he dropped the wheels while in a rather tight slow turn. In the end, it looked like he stalled it.
