Thanks for that Paul. Alan @ YT & you guys @ KMP seems very helpful from what i've read.

Sometimes the Aussie Dealers can be pretty lousey on service and help. So it's good to know we have somewhere else to try.

But Austars-Model seem good. I got mine from Austars-Model and they were great to deal with.

Glen went out of his way with phone calls and emails. I was suitably impressed.

Will definately deal with them again.

Hey Frank, keep at it and good to hear you have flown it and enjoyed it.

Is it worth upgrading to Seirra retracts? I bought mine without gear so I will have to source something somewhere I guess.

Cheers KMM

Yes ,I would def.change to the Sierras, and get their Actuater also. they also have an awesome set of scale wheels and tires for it also.. Mine folded the first landing. I could not get all the slop out of the stock gear also.

Cya,
Frank

Have been out of town on vacation, and will start on construction plans for rockets. I am doing double duty these days building a Meister scale Zero and also modifying my Tiffy with a bubble canopy from a KMP Sea Furry. ( bad x-wind landing, MY FAULT, put her in inverted on hard surface runway !) Took some paint off the fin and cracked the canopy, that was the extent of the damage. this plane is made of rubber. I swear I could fly her straight into the ground and it would probably bounce. The canopy conversion takes a little glass work and some paint but no big deal, I`ll get some pics up shortly for anyone interested. Keep up the good work guys and post some pics of those rocket installations.

Regards Jim

Olaf, I`ll get that rocket kit out to you this Monday

Hey Jim,
Glad to have you back, sorry to hear about your mishap . The Meister Scale stuff is great. My friend Dino is the owner.Hes a great guy,Ive know him from the 80s when he used to come into the hobby store I worked at. His dad was a great man too..

I saw the canopy conversion on the RCMF site looks real nice. That guy did an awesome job. Id def. love to see your conversion.

I finally got my Sierras installed and now are working on their Actuator. If you have any pics you can send/post of your Retract install including the actuator, that would be great..

Im goin to at least bring my Tiffy to the Warbirds Over Delaware in a couple weeks to show it off. Not sure if it will fly then. But thats cool, its my first time goin there.. Should be fun..

Cya,
Frank

Thats great, Jim.
Hope you get your Tiffy in the air again after the mishap.
I hope to get the maiden on mine next weekend, if all things goes as planed. If not it will be ready for the Warbird Weekend in the middle of august. Here is the
invite for it: http://www.warbirdweekend.org/Welcome/Welcome.html . You can also check out our forum for the Scale Warbirds of Norway: http://scalewarbird.hopto.org/forum/ to see how it comes together.

Greetings lads:

Here are some pictures of the retract instillation and the new canopy mod. Remember to build up the wheel mounting pads 1/2 inch to accommodate the sierra gear. I secured them with 4x40 machine screws going into blind nuts. If you use long enough bolts, you can adjust the fore/aft - in/out moment using washers. You can adjust the gear doors using fuel line cut to the proper length between the collar and the gear door as shown, this way you can adjust the doors perfectly. The air valve was installed on its own mounting pad along with the air tank. I chose to recess the air filler valve and switch with recharge unit on the right side of the fuselage as shown. It works slick and hides everything. I`m installing rare earth magnets to snug up the cover. ( get them at radio shack ). I`m in the early stages of the canopy mod but after some more filling and sanding i`m sure it will work fine. Hope the pictures help, there high resolution so zoom in to get all the detail.

Regards: Jim

sorry about the size guys, new computer.

Thanks! Great pictures. Is that dashboard custom made or is it from some other plane?

Beautiful job on your radio install, looks very neat and tidy.
I was thinking about putting my retract valve and servo onto the top of the wing. Ill have only one line to hook up plus the servo. Or mount it inside the fuse, and only have to hook up two retract lines.
Im trying to keep the retract Valve/Servo forward of the CG cuz I can use it up there.
I used long #8 Socket Head wood screws. I had to shim up the gear so it went further into the wing when they were retracted. I used your method with the fuel line to mount the gear doors. Boy that took some time to do!! But If it works well its worth the extra time.

Wish I had something to go onto the prop hub so the weight is as far out as possible..

Its to bad I already cut out the fuse for my RX and Ignition switch and my filler valve..

It will look sgood sitting at Warbirds Over Delaware in a couple weeks.. I asked Darryl to bring the scale wheels/tires to the event.Ill be mounting them at the event!!

Thanks again,
Frank

Tiffy is ready for test fly tomorrow finally. I hope to have pics and some exciting news rather than news of defeat.

Somewhere among the 19 pages of this thread this question has probably already been answered but, just in case, is everyone satisfied with the CG range as called out by KMP?

Chad,

Back on page 14 of this thread I have my method of balancing the brute, I am pleased with the way it handles. On takeoff make sure you feed in the power slowly (because of torque) and don't haul it off (high speed stall) . Fly it off nice and smooooooth. Make sure the control throws are right out of the book, use some expo on the elevator as pitch is sensitive, I think I used 40% but suit yourself. Again don't worry about the weight, if balanced right it will fly great.

regards: Jim

I agree with Jim.It is pitch sensitive. On my maiden flight,I noticed it. Im used to flying aerobatic planes,so I need to reteach myself to fly Warbirds. You cant just cut the power and glide in for a landing. I had a little more then 40% and I think it was to much for me. It felt like I had to really move the stick then it was porpusing(SP) on me.
I think I posted a video of my maiden in theis thread..
My CG was also about 1/8 behind what the manual called for. I already had a few or 5lbs of lead on the cowl. I need to get made a weight to go onto the prop hub so the weight is way out onto the front of the plane, then i can take some weight out of the cowl..

Cya,
Frank
