Okay, for those of you who are interested in getting the clearance distance from front to back under the cowl:
I just measured the distance from the firewall to the base (furthermost forward part) of the cowling/ engine necelle.
The magic number is 150mm which isn't that far...I just purchase a GR Pro G26 and she doesn't really fit, even with a pitts style muffler, there will have to be some forward cuts made into the crease of the fuselage bulge and the lower oil cooler bulge.
pics to follow.
This plane is a beauty, and was well conceived & constructed...Way to Go KMP!

Hey Guys, Everybody must be building their Typhoons, not much goin on here latley. For you guys that are flying theirs, what kind of throws are you using, the recommended ones?
Right now I'm working on the Ailerons and just want to make sure I have enough with what they ask for.. Man those hinge blocks were a PIA to make up. Mine didnt come shaped as it was shown in the manual. I just left them rectangular and drilled the hole for the hinge, and did alot of cutting to get then to fit..Thats out of the way now so I hope it's smooth sailing from here..

Cya,
Frank

Hey guys,
Anyone have any pics of the retracts and how the gear doors attach?
How come they did'nt put a rear spar in the wings so it would be easier to align the wingtip to the center section? I got one tip attached and it was'nt horrible to do just took more time then I think it should have.. Well time to go back downstairs for the second wingtip attachment..

Cya,
Frank

The problem with predrilling the doors is not everyone will use the ESM retracts and then if the retract installation is not exact it will make a massive difference to the fit of the doors. I appreciate it is not any easy task to find the correct position and it is a valid point worth mentioning and has given me an idea I will submit to the factory, a card template.

Sounds great thanks. The other question,is there anyway to get some of the slop out of the gear,or is it supposed to have a little play? It seems like it's mostly side to side play..

Thanks again,
Frank

Id like to concur regarding the wood tabs requiring shaping and drilling at hinge locatings of the flying surfaces...A total pain, I've ended up remaking several of mine out of hardwood as a means to keep them in once piece.
If I hadn't already spend soo much time effin' with the things, I would have completely remade all of them.
I'll be starting a build thread this weekend and will start to explain in detail a better way to deal with those puppies.
Until then...happy building!

One of my retract mechanisms was pre-drilled with the wrong size hole!?!? So I called KMP & aparrently it was an early problem, that shouldn't be on other one's shipped out.
I'll have to spend some time on the drill press with it. A bummer to say the least.
I ordered a 4.5" spinner from some random company today, but I'm not happy with it's shape.
This plane really needs it's own special spinner as a P-40/P5q1 parabolic is too long. It should look more like a P38 spinner with a rounded prabolic aspect to it.
Anyone out there seen anything suitable ?
Skyshark makes Typhoon / tempest spinners, but they are way too small.
Hmmmm!
.

Mine also had to be drilled out. I made the call and sent them some pics, just had to drill it out,not a big deal though.
I'm trying to picture KMPs P38 and wonder what spinners they used.Or what Nick Ziroli would use on his P38..
Something to ponder...

Check with Bob Holman, the spinner for the 71" Brian Taylor Typhoon may work.
