A bit more info for those awaiting the next warbird.

The prototype arrived with me yesterday, for a dry run and a good root inside to check the structure for any problems. This is the first in the line of fully composite airframes manufactured by ESM in China. It was designed in the UK and is aiming to take scale ARTF's up yet another notch. The best step up in my view is the use of fully shrouded scale hinging, the accuracy of fit is stunning.
Due to lack of time, this one is being passed over to Kinverflyer (Martin) for assembly and flight testing, but the kit came to me first as he is away on holiday for two weeks, but I thought I'd start the ball rolling in the same way we did with the other three, Hurricane, Spitfire and the Spitfire. Hang on though, Martin is away for another two weeks yet, maybe I could get it done before he gets back!!!!

Unfortunately not

If I struggle with the pics, maybe one of you kind chaps could steal the pics from the forum on my side of the pond?!!

Ian.

Hi

When you say fully composite , do you mean something like this one we used to produce in 1991 along with six other models??

Looking good. Do you have any pictures showing the fuselage, cowl, and canopy?

Steve

i dont know, if yours where detailed, with panel lines, rivets and fastners etc, coloured out of the mold, with the latest CNC cut molds, then yes, exactly the same, but if not, no
your tiffy is pretty impressive for 1991!!! did they sell well? why did you stop making them??

more piccys will come when we have EXTENSIVELY flown the prototype to death!! the unvail will not be yet, the assembler of this one is away on vacation,

i will ask the bossman, and see if he will permit any more pictures, i have seen loads of pics, and its stunning, we were sent a fuelage, to assess the scale detail, it was superb

this is just one of a series of composites that are coming, you already know about the tiger cat, but some will be a surprise, i know this, for they where to me!!!!

Hi alanc

Ours was detailed with everthing but rivets with handmade epoxy molds. Primed grey out of the molds, epoxy resin models.

The concept was new to most at the time, but well received at the Pasadena modellers show in 1991. Demand was brisk, but production was slow along with problems with designers and management. Partnerships with family didn't help either.

Thanks For responding

Good luck.

steve

it was a credit to you, i hope the production of the models gave you at least some satisfaction, for me, my satisfaction comes on seeing their face, as we pulll their new fighter out of the box at a show, i have never seen a customer yet who didnt have THAT look on his face, hope it will be the same with the tiffy, and the many others in the pipeline,

at the nationals, in end august, in the UK, i was drooling over a friends composite effort, he is a one-man-band, and a talented designer, his currant project, of which i was slavering over the wing? none other than a 1/4 scale MK9 spitfire, it was incredible, many thanks for sharing your efforts with us, do you have any more pictures?

Ian,

The Tiffy looks impressive! Can we have more details about size and availability? When you say all composite, are the wings fiberglass as well?

Thanks!

Paul

I asked what YT was up to a few weeks ago because I am so impressed with my 109. Yes the wings are fiberglass as well. I guess thats where they are going with all their products.
I dont mind the fabric wings on my 109 but....
It does look like the cowl on the Typhoon would lend its self to stuffing a huge motor in it!
Good luck with it guys, you make nice stuff.

Thanks alanc

I'll post a few more pics of various models we have made over the years, just for the potential of this composite concept. 109 is also a full composite airframes.

It was a satifaction to us and still to this day. Not much financial satisfaction though for us though. Provided a nice tax shelter that year. So we fabricate for ourselves now ( design buddy for almost 20 yrs now.)

If you like I can post a few pics of the Typhoon with paint

scale craft, you are one talented guy, i look forward to anything you want to show us

as for our tiffy, yes, its all molded, wings and all, no more piccys yet, we are waiting the homecoming of kinver flyer, he is to assemble it, and test fly, ian is going to make some resin scale accesories for it, availablity will be in the uk for now, but, if you guys want to pay the post, i see no problem we are talikng bombs, rockets and rails, cannon, exahust etc no availability on the kit yet, but in the UK, we are hoping december, early jan, remember, this is the first of an AWSOME line up, and some of the intended will deinatly please you guys

and yes, the cowl will take a huge motor, but dont kill it with tooooo much power, mine is to have a 3w 24, with a very nice tucked away stainless silencer, this i bought at our nationals swapmeet/ bring and buy, of a friend, for£150!!!! BARGAIN!! for your info, in the proof one, we dropped a zenoah 62 in, and it took it, not saying USE this motor, but just to show there is lots of room

and we EXPECT ballast to be fitted, we have gone for the scale tail, and cowl length, get the heavy motors out!! model will take it, for me, the zenoah 26 would fill the bill, nice plodding gas engine, not the lightest in the world, full fit and forget unit,

The Evolution 35GT or the ZDZ 40RE will fit the bill for me. I'm planning on swinging a 17-18" diameter 3-blade prop.
