Status: offline 		Stay away from them! While I have not tried any of their models, everyone I know, and everyone that has written anything about them say the same thing - stay away. One of the model aviation magazines has gone so far as to remove them from their advertising list - cut them off and will not allow them to advertise in their magazine. A member of the flying club of which I'm a member has 2 or 3 of their models and none fly properly. This individual has been flying R/C for 10 years and cannot get them to fly properly. His latest, a Christisen Eagle is so unstable that it's impossible to fly. Every thing has been checked, balance, etc. but no luck. He has contacted them via e-mail numerous times and cannot get a response from them.


Remember, "Experience is a hard teacher. She gives the test first and the lesson sometime later!"

I've seen guys fly stop signs, lawnmowers, and snoopy"s dog house, come on..

I have a few of these CMP/Nitroplanes models, and I'm not really an arf guy. All warbirds. If you do not have any building / stick time with scale like warbirds in general, then you will have problems. The cheap covering on the flying surfaces has to go, but I can redue that. And don't go by thier CG locations, again experience with scale warbird building comes into play....

Where can you get finished models like these for a few bucks for what they are, well worth it. An 82" finished At6 for around $250-300. Glass fuse/ wood flying surfaces. As for Nitroplanes, you need to know what you want, they are just selling good stuff at good prices. Models are just a small part of their product line.

The plane is the disposable part for me, I try not to overpay for the airframes, the hardware is transplantable.

The labor in China is what makes them cheap, not the product.

Put my money where my mounth is: Ok, I have

2-70" zero, 1-54" zero, 70" Mosquito, 2-54" P-51, 1-82" At6, and maybe next month the 71'5" P-51

Status: offline 		The product is cheaper than the chinese labor. I wouldn't touch one of their products. Everyone I've seen at our field has been JUNK and never fly the way they are supposed to. Nothing fits together right, cheap hardware, worlds worst covering, and they must build 500 models from one bottle of glue. Stay as far away as possible from anything connected to CMP/Nitro. In this case you don't get anywhere near what you pay for.

Status: online 		NitroPlanes sells ARFs, not service, not support, and not any replacement parts. And often, not complete ARFs.

Status: offline 		i have the 90" p-38 there were some issues with landing gear, but it does fly nice. dont count on customer service
all in all good bang for the buck IF you dont mind re-engineering some things
biggest problem i have had with the plane is landing gear and blocks. and the plastic pieces which i now make fiberglass replacement parts for the boom covers and side scoops

Yes. I too love my CMP Focke Wulf. The Hardware is terrible, I did throw mine out. If you know where to add support and balance your CMP plane not going by the manuals or directions, you will have a very good flying plane. To me it is a good " Bang for the Buck." I just believe that CMP kits aren't for the Beginner to build. I can hardly wait for the New Bf-109. I just hope they didn't kill the Detailing or the Scale.

Status: offline 		I have the CMP 50 Corsair and I love this plane also. Very good flier when you have the CG correct. As for the general construction of the plane, mine was good but needed some reinforcement at places, especially at the landing gear blocks. I also threw out all the hardware I got with the plane and went with American standard hardware. For the buck, can't be beat.

Status: offline 		I built a cap 232 for my buddy from nitroplanes, like the others said ditch the harware for du bro and be prepared for some bashing of the kit. I had to make new wing attachments, reinforce the fire wall and landing gear area. The plane flew fine until he put it into a tree. I would only recommend them if you have built a few planes before. For the price they are ok. I just finished building my vq models p51 and the quality on that plane was way better than a nitroplanes model. Well worth the extra 80$ I spent.

Status: offline 		as soon as I finish the CMP Mosquito,no more CMP kits for me...The major bad thing about CMP, is " Spare Parts"..can't get anything from them..no matter what model you have from them...Maybe someone else has had good luck getting spare parts,but from my experience, it's a no go....nuff said

Status: offline 		I have a CMP Cessna, CMP P-51, CMP FW-190, and a Nitro Planes Lancair. All have been fantastic flyers. You have to toss the hardware and CG starting point and re-enforce the landing gear. But that is a small price to pay for a cheap arf that can be a great looking model if you take the time..

Status: offline 		Greyfox, I guess I lucked out big time with my Nitroplanes P-51. (I bought it from Pacemodel in New Zealand) It came express mail double boxed all parts wrapped. Not a wrinkle anywhere, all parts fit extremely well. The only thing I changed was the wheels, because I wanted bigger ones. I test flew it today and had no problems with it. The plane took off straight with little rudder correction and need only minor trim in flight. I'm using a ThunderTiger.61 two wtroke, and the plane is fast enough for me. Aileron rolls are crisp and no tendency to drop when inverted. Stalls are gentle and straight ahead. Landings are as easy and smooth as an LT-40. I bought it just to see what a $110.00 Hangar 9 ripooff looked like, BUT I did not expect any support from them if I had had any trouble. So far, I'd have to say I may even give them another shot down the line, if they have something of interest to me.....Cliff

Status: offline 		For what it's worth, I received an E Mail today from Nitroplanes about new planes coming out and something a few of you said was bad about CMP, parts. I'll just paste what I received and you take it from there. It seems quite a few modelers have requested parts and now maybe they are doing something about that problem. Lets just hope.

If you want craftsman quality airplanes, i'd suggest you look elsewhere.

Exactly, I want nothing to do with CMP after this FW-190 kit. I could have bought something from Great Planes at that price and atleast I would have gotten better Hardware! JMO No more Chinese Planes for me, they are just too cheap. I made up my mind the other night after considerable thought.

Status: offline 		Well, just to let everyone know, I trashed my CMP Focke Wulf Fw-190. It wasn't because I have alot of money to throw away, it was because I made a bad decision in purchasing it.

I looked everywhere for the Aileron Control Arm Screws, the stock ones were too short. I drove and waisted about 10 gallons of gas looking for hardware for the plane and I found nothing. I decided to buy a better quality ARF Warbird in the future and felt that I shouldn't spend $1000 or more on a cheap ARF.

Plus my directions were very vague. My wife was upset with me about it until I told her it's better to take a loss now, then to invest in expensive equipment in a plane that might not fly, and I can't get parts for.

I saw this Cartoon and it reminded me of this CMP thread. I read the Chinese directions in vague English and my plane came out like this:

I just didn't want to dump a $1000 into it, and finding special long screws was becoming a bit of a pain. Some of you were right when you said, " You buy cheap, you get cheap." I know when to count my losses and change my mind before it becomes too late. I only spent $270 on the plane including the price of the CMP. So it's not a terrible loss compared to other horror stories I have read about.

So to put it bluntly, I fell out of love with it ... but what I actually said isn't allowed here.

Status: offline 		Anyone who can put a Hanger 9 together can build a CMP/Nitro/Raidentech/GSP warbird. You just have to have a little building experience. My FW190 is one of the best flying planes I own. And that includes several 3/D and acrobatic gas and glow planes I have.
There are a few details during any build that if done wrong warrant the trash can or spare part bin. Except for a few control surface linkages and the cheap wooden push rods the hardware is fine for this plane. Your not assembling a 35% Extra 300 or something similar.
Cheap ? Unless you put a dollar figure on your building time you can save alot of money with these planes and have one tough, smooth flyin bird that looks good and will last you. Get some flat spray paint and a can of flat clear coat and get creative.
Scale looks ? The ARF world is getting better everyday. But for now if you want true TopGun worthy scale production you'll have to build a kit.
Not cutting down Hanger 9 here,,, just don't care for the flimsy , lightweight construction and the shiny pattern plane looking monocote. At least my two cheap CMPs don't glare from the plastic looking shine like the AT6.

Assembling an ARF and building a KIT are two completely differant terms and actions.

Status: offline 		Maybe I'm too easy, but I got 6 more flights on my Nitroplanes .60 P-51 today. Half the price of a Hangar 9 and flys just as good. As far as hardware, it depends on what comes with the plane and what plane it is. I will be changing to 4-40 pushrods for the gear, as the metric wire is a bit too light and tends to flex in the retract position. FortunatelyI have a well stocked Ace Hardware close by, so if I decide to change any thing, most times they have something that will work...
