Is there a true performance difference between a BSE Quickie Jett engine vs standard one? What are the differences in performance? Why should one spend the extra money to get the BSE quickie Jett Vs the standard one? Any opionions would be appreciated.

I think Dub would tell you there's no difference in performance. That said, I got rid of my cast Jett motors and now have all BSE. I love them.

Full disclosure is in order here. I don't believe I truly got familiar enough with the standard Jett motors before switching over to the BSE versions. DHG has one of my old motors and he can really make it go.

It's just that the BSE motors are so COOL!!!

Unless things have changed, you don't get a remote needle valve with the cast JETT engines. You do with the BSE. So that closes the gap by $25 right away.

The BSE mufflers are lighter as well. It's either 1/4 or 1/2 ounce.

Resale value is probably better for a BSE.

The emotional factor of knowing you have what Dub and Mike Helsel are flying closes the gap the rest of the way. Save the difference by going out to eat dinner one less time and savor the elegance of the BSE instead.

There are fewer people running the JETT engines than the Nelsons. Hook up with somebody who is making them go. Duane "Hawk-Eye" Gall is a good point of contact, as is John.

I'd check with Dubb. I'm not sure about Q500, but I'm pretty sure they've gone back to the cast case in Q40. I know they were running them at Phoenix early in the year. I don't know enough about the different variations of them to know what they're running as far as internal pieces and mufflers though.

One thing I would also consider, if you're planning on racing, is the availability of help from others. There aren't any Southern California racers that I know of that use Jetts, and only a small handful in all of California. If you're out flying and having engine setup troubles, you'll have a lot fewer people to lean on for advice.

The fast Jett's are the cast cast with new "guts" in them. But they are more difficult to tune to a degree than Nelsons.

Typical racing in Texas a week ago, yes the Jetts were the fastest, but skill & luck made Nelsons win

Actually the Jetts dominated the top 5 in Texas last week

So what I am getting is that it is emotional. Not getting anymore rpms? Or better performance. My cast jett came with a remote needle. So unless I want a better looking engine spending the extra money is pointless?

The bore/stoke, piston, sleeve, and crank are the same. Minor differences might be in the gas passages between the case and sleeve. But the biggest difference is the BSE is a BILLET case, while the other is a casting. In the process to make the basic aluminum stock, it is rolled in the mill which improves the grain stucture of the raw material. So a billet case should be stronger for a equal weight than a casting. Both however are fine engines. I bought a BSE for quickie after seeing John's run.

Yes. BSE version is very nice. I have four of the BSE version, but I'm over with having nice and shinny engines. No more emmotional thinking envolved as I just want a more compact design and just SCREAM performance. Both are excellent engine. However, the cast case fits my bill right now.
