Have a h9 sukhoi and from what Ive read in these posts the best "bang for the buck" engine is the zdz 80 single. Is vibration really an issue with this engine?

zdz 80 has very little vibration as it was designed for r/c unlike many conversion engines that came from chainsaw plants. i can tell you that the zenoah 80 twin does not fly the pane well as it is a typical h9 which is heavy. She will do all the manuevers with the engine but you will have no reserve if looking for 3d capabilities. I would suggest a 100.

I have to disagree.
I have the H9 Cap with a ZDZ 80 single. Plenty of power for 3D. I am TR'ing it a 1/3 power. It takes off like a rocket out of a hover when 3/4 power is added.
My Cap weighs 23.5 RTF with this motor.

I have flown them with the 100's and they are a lot of fun but is the extra weight of a 100 worth it? IMO....no.
These planes fly so well because of the low wing loading. Any extra weight just deters from that.

The 80 is a very smooth reliable motor from what I have seen.

The ZDZ 80 is more powerful than the Zenoa 80 twin and its lighter so performance should be better. My personal experience with ZDZ has been very good, they seem to be as smooth as any single in there class and smoother than most. As far as H-9 products having a light wing loading...........Hmmmm.

Do you think they dont? Just wondering where your comment is generated from.

Wing loading on my Cap is 30.93 oz/Sqft. Prett good for a 33% plane IMO.

I had this engine in a Giant Scale Planes Staudacher 90" wingspan, and there was very little vibration in this combo. I fell in love with these engines at this point, and I will not go into detail as to how this plane performed with this engine. One word...AWESOME. I am not a big fan of the Zenoah twins. Just enough power to make you wish you had more. Just my 2 cents.

My 35% Carden Cap has 1,950 sq in wing and weighs 22 pounds 3 oz. thats around 26 oz per foot, and compared to some of my friends planes its heavy.
Don't get me wrong 30 oz is not bad, but it's by no means light. H9 has a reputation for well built planes most of which lean to the heavy side.

Hi OUTCAST,
What modifications did you do to get it that light? Thats pretty good. I remember Branwell modified his Carden 35% Cap extensively and I think he was around 23.5 or 24 pounds. 22lbs 3oz is absolutely incredible!!!! Thats the absolute lightest I've ever heard one of those coming in at. What do your friends planes wiegh? You guys must have some secret lightening tips up your sleeves! Please do share- Possibly start another thread just on lightening tips. - That would be much appreciated by all of us.

Thanks in advance for the tips,
Jon

Actually there is not much done to it, just the normal stuff. I use powerflight lithiums, no smoke, carbon tube, light wheels and gear, built stock its not a whole lot heavier. Some of them are going at the inside with a dremmel but I didn't get too carried away in there. I have seen them more than a pound lighter but I think that taking things too close to the edge, The batteries alone are a major save, the lithium system runs the reciever and the ign from one 3000mha battery that weighs about 1/3 the weight of a nicad and when you get to 3,000mha nicads are freekin heavy!

Well there is no way for me to prove it to you so if you don't want to belive me it's ok. But here are a few other things I did, I have no mufflers, just two 9" long alum header pipes that exit together under the cowl, thats saves about 8 ounces right there. I have a micro servo for the throttle and I only use one servo for the rudder instead of two, another 3 ounces. I did not use the removeable tail, another 3 ounces. Only one receiver and its a light weight, another ounce. two more ounces saved by using the carbon push rods instead of the steal 4-40. The only metal gear servo in the plane is the rudder, another ounce. The 1500 MHA battery that is normaly used for the ign isn't even there, another 6 ounces. I also have no pilot or cockpit and no wheel pants, another 6. In this short list we saved almost 2 pounds. Plus the carbon wing tube, carbon landing legs, dremmel work, and a few other little things that all add up. When they get this large saving weight is much easier than it is on a 60 size, there is no magic here just careful selection of components. Try it, you will be amazed at how much you can shave from your Cap, but like I said you don't have to belive me.
