Ed,

Shimming in 428 is perfectly acceptable. As to 424, it kinda depends on the local flavor of rules. Some areas it is fine, others it is not.

Jim did you find any metal in the rear bearing?

The supplied rear bearing looked pristine and felt buttery smooth - no pieces missing. I replaced it with another rear bearing from a TT Pro 40 which ran an entire season with the same plug. Raced it this weekend in 5 heats and 2 practice flights @ 16,500 RPMs...NO PLUG FAILURES!

Hard to believe, but it looks like the culprit was the REAR BEARING!

DING, DING, DING We have a winner!

I'd check the bearings. If one of the balls is starting to spall, the nearly microscopic bits of metal will take out plugs about as fast as you put them in.

Thanks for the report.

Perhaps something is rubbing - foreign matter might be distorting a plug, too,

Hey, you weren't the only one.. but you did nail the source!

In his modesty, Jim forgot to mention that he won the "A" Main yesterday.

Gordo,

Do you know the difference between Tiger Woods and the average golfer?

Both get the ball in the cup, but there is less wear on Tiger's putter.

Reason #3 to call Dave up for a proper bearing when preparing a TT40 for racing! It is just a ticking time bomb waiting to ruin your day.... and engine!

Way to go Jim. You are the man! Now that we have that prob. solved I want to know if anyone has taken out the TT 40 pro muffler apart and taken out the center piece that looks like a baffle? I want to take it out to see if i get any more power out of the engine.

The TT40 muffler is usually self disasembling... We had a guy take his baffle out... won the race... the CD ran a piece of nyrod up the outlet after the race and disqualified the contestant. In fairness... he thought it was legal and everyone was doing it. I take mine apart, clean it good and put it backtogether with JBWeld to make sure it stays together even if the bolt fails.
