I have replaced the blades and shaft. No wobble and the head seams tight and smooth. Checked the pitch(I don't have a tool but seems fine)
Other than that it is stock with training gear.

I can hover whole batteris but can't get it highter than a couple of feet. I have adjusted the pitch higher and lower to see if it is the pitch. The blades are tracked.

When I increase the collective with idle mode off(I think it is off when the blades are at a constant rpm) even at max pitch I can't get it higher. It just boggs down and rmps fall but come back when I decrease the pitch. I can get it to jump high by apply full collective rapidly but then the rms fall and I can't hold the height. I was thinking maybe a battery problem but I have three and all do the same. I charge them until warm no more than 2.5 hours like the manual says.

Any Ideas?

Diagnosing Lift Problems

Turned out to be 3 bad stock motors...every one of them burned out after about 2-3 hours of use...most incredible run of bad luck I've ever had...

my guess is your motor is bad....it is possible your gear mesh is off. If you have replaced/checked both of these I recomend you get a pitch gauge....it is by far on of my favorite tools for my heli.

get a lipo, you'll be amazed at it's performace. also with a lipo it is best to get teh AEK so you'll have teh heat sinks and the 9t motor, and semetrical blades when you need them.

Are you possibly using plastic blades and the stock motor and battery??? If you are using these then youre either gonna have to dump the blades or go to 9 tooth pinion and lipo. Mine wouldnt get enough headspeed with the stock setup when using plastic blades. I could only hover about 2 feet at full throttle.

As everyone has commented, I would change the battery to Lipo more power. Then maybe the motor. When you go Lipo it is highly recommended that you change the pinion to 9T. Eflite makes a pinion puller for about $15.

The extra weight is making the motor work to hard thus pulling more Amps than it should reducing the motor life.

Break your motors in (both tail and main). If you don't break them in you can damage the brushes very quickly if they are not well seated (leading to dead motors in a few flights). I use water break-in with great results, but you can also break them in dry, but you MUST break them in. For both water and dry just use one "D" battery and hook it up to the motor in the correct polarity. Let it run for 10-20 minutes (under water or not) and then dry and oil. That's it. You will greatly increase the power and life of your motors.

I am using wood blades, I chexked how the gears are meshing with paper as shown in another thread.
I'm going to get another motor as I have three batteries and don't want to upgrade to lipo yet.

Can I get the aerobatics upgrade kit and use it's motor but not use the symetrical blades? Motors arn't that expensive but if I have to buy one I would feel like I'm getting a deal if i get the whole upgrade kit.

The motor in the aerobatic kit has a 9 tooth pinion. If you dont use an 11V lipo you wont get enough headspeed to have good lift using the upgrade motor. Actually you may not get any more than 2 feet off the ground at full throttle.

Until you decide to go with an 11V battery then stay with the 10 tooth pinion.

Wow stevennh...I used to be an electric r/c car racer. I feel kind of dumb. You do have to break in and oil those old brushed motors. Good catch.

Eflite makes a pinion puller for about $15.

Does anyone know where to get one of these?

I got mine for 13 bucks at my LHS. I THINK the 1 I got was made by GWS but it was a few months ago.

You can get the Pinion puller off eBay as well. But I got mine from LHS.

so ur saying that all three batts wont get you higher? that's strange... dunno, your best bet before lipo would be another motor i guess, but dont go with teh one in teh AEK, it's a 9t and wont get you enough headspeed as PSI said. go with a 10 or a 11... try increasing/decreasing your pitch...

Breaking them in will make them last longer, especially the tail motors. I did not break in my first and only got a few flights. When I took it apart the brushes had dissolved. Since then I have gone through a few motors, but they last many flights anyway. They also run cooler (I guess less arching?).
