So where is everybody on this thread??? I dusted my 50cc Extra off today... it was such an effortless and smooth flying plane, I wanted to see what others were experiencing with it.

Flys like its on rails. The 35% is even better! No trouble at all on the 30% and 35% They are vary good planes well worth the money.

I've got my eye on the 75cc... I have a 3W 75i, needs a good home. My only concern is that I've already got one extra, and the 75cc isn't that much larger.... almost like havng two of the same thing.

Hey Aeroworks..... a delayed THANK YOU for the construction of the QB 50cc 260.... I (finally) finished running my first gallon of gas through the DA50, and it was sputtering pretty bad at high speeds. I wanted to do a quick check of the carb mounting bolts after hearing from others that they tend to loosen. I pulled the cowl off, fully expecting to have to remove the engine just to check these bolts.... but, after taking out just the 4 screws on the motor box inspection cover, I was able to get an alan wrench through the hole in the front of the motor box and into the carb bolts!

They did need a little tightening, and 30 seconds later, it was complete. Thanks for taking the extra time to think of these little things that save folks time long after the build is complete.

reyn3545,

I noticed the same problem with my new DA-50 - the red carb bolts tend to back out during the break-in process (or first couple gallons). I'm on my third gallon now with the motor and have not noticed them backing out anymore - just check them after each time out at the field.

FYI - don't bother removing the cowl, you can simply tighten them through the hatch when its removed if you have a loner 4mm alen key...

yeah, I had a long enough alan wrench, but I could see the bolts better with the cover removed.

I took the plane out again today, along with my Extreme Flight 74" Yak with a Brillelli 46 - maiden flight.

We finally got the DA50 dialed in very nicely, no popping in the air, plenty of power. There's really no comparison from the Aeroworks planes to the Extreme Flight. The AW was so much easier to get flying straight and true, easier to build, and the covering job on the Extra has held up very nicely in the past 8 months or so. I haven't had a ton of flights, just finished going through the first gallon.. but this is a GREAT flying plane.

I bought a 3W 75i recently, and was planning on going with the AW 75cc Extra when it arrives... but yesterday I made an impulse buy and ordered a Comp-ARF 2.3 Extra. This will be a much more involved build, and hopefully at the end, it will fly as nicely as the 50cc Aewoworks!

Mark - can you recommend a canister setup for the DA50 in the Extra 260? I'm thinking of going to a canister from the Pitts.

If you have all the "parts"... you can easily start this on Saturday and fly it on Sunday. This was my first big plane, so it took about a week in my spare time. I've been flying it for about a year... still the most stable, predictable plane that I own. Gotta give Bad Brad props for the graphics.. they look great!

reyn3545, Yes, I've got the servos.....5985's for the ele and the ailerions, 5955 for the rudder. Smart fly cut off, etc. Just waiting on the plane and the 2.5 inch stand offs. Glad its a quick build, the flyin season is coming to a end here in a couple of months. Brad's graphics really look like they set this plane off! Is there any mods I should know about that you've guys have come across during your build? I'm shooting for 16.5 lbs max, is this about right? Gonna be along weekend waiting on this bird

You should hit 16.5 easy. With CF stab tubes and wing tube I was able to come in right at 16lbs. I am guessing without those I was around 16lbs 6oz. This was with NiMH packs too.

I use 2-cell li-po's and voltage regulators... the plane weighs in at about 16.5 pounds... I didn't do anything to lighten it. The DA-50 is PLENTY of power. Its not a hovering demon, but neither am I.

In terms of things to look for during the build... If this is your first gasser, and assuming you haven't gotten a 2.4 GHz radio yet, don't forget to completely separate the ignition system from the receiver system. There are plenty of threads on here to tell you about that.

I wouldn't worry about a choke servo... I think the Extra 260 book has a good picture of how to use a simple bent wire to make a manual choke arm that's accessable from the front of the cowl.

Some people have had problems with the tail wheel. I haven't had any issues, but there certainly are better solutions out there... consider upgrading, especially if you land on some rough grass surfaces.

Consider beefing up the landing gear blocks, at least with some additional epoxy to add strength. There have been several of these cracked or broken on less than perfect landings. I had to repair mine twice, both the result of dead stick landings into rough terrain.

That's about all I can think of.. all very basic things to look at on any build. Take you time, and have a ball with the plane!

I received my 50cc Extra 260 last week. I have been flying a H9 Cap232 and a BME/PAU Edge 540 with a DA50 with pitts muffler. I have been reading your post and I see you might go with a cannister. I am going to order another DA50 next month and I have been thinking about going with the cannister. I just got into gas about 9 months ago and got hooked. I was surprised pleased to see the Aeroworks boxes lined with plywood, I guess they had problems with UPS. My son and I fly at the old Stone Mountain airport. It has a paved runway and is really good on normal landings. Thanks for sharing your info on RCU and looking forward to reading more and building the Extra 260.

Good luck with it.. this is a GREAT plane. I was thinking of going to a canister so that maybe if it dead sticks again, the exhaust tubes wouldn't be there to hang in the dirt and tear the motor box out. The canisters would be quieter, but I don't know if Stone Mountain has any noise problems. Up at GMA, there are no restrictions yet, but they are plowing up the woods all around for new subdivisions. The road to the airport is also the road to the trash dump. You wouldn't think that sprawl would stretch down that road, but its happening.

I just ordered a Comp-ARF Extra 330L and a DA-85. If all goes well, the AW might be on the swap page before too long. I've enjoyed it a lot, but it the other plane flies like it should, I won't be flying the AW enough to keep it.
