Mixing is the LAST thing you do to a plane when setting it up. You have a lot of other factors to trim/adjust before you go into mixing, so fly it first, decide on what CG is best for you, make sure your lateral balance is good, make sure your prop thrustline is good, decide on a prop and stick with it and continue with checking your roll rate and making sure you don't need any differential. Decide on what throws suit you for precision and 3D. Decide what expo you want for each surface and each dual rate. Then, maybe, start looking into mixing. For precision, while flying at about 5/8 throttle, you will find that, if everything else is set up properly, you will practically not need any mixing to sustain level knife edge flight.

I wonder how many AeroworksExtra 260 graphics sets Bad Brad has done lately.. I think every 260 in the air (including mine) uses his stuff. He does great work, fast, and reasonable prices. Sure beats trying to properly align and layer the stuff in the box!

Hmm. I guess i am the only one who doesn't like the checker board stuff. I dont fly with the Bad Brad Graphics, and I know the checkerboards are all over the place and the AW Yak scheme is one of the more popular ones, I dont care for it either. I dont know, just me. It reminds me of a dazzler too much, and boy do I hate my dazzler.

I am still playing with my CG and trimming stuff out, downline throttle to elevator mix, etc., but I do notice this airplanes wants to pitch to the wheels a tad in Knife edge. As the CG moves back, I am sure it won't need much mixing at all, but just something to expect on initial flights. If you go to mini-iac.com they have some really good trimming and setup articles. This was my first gasser, and I am using the articles to great success. Let us know when you maiden her.

Another tip on setup is spend time getting the elevator halves to match up exactly. If they aren't you'll have really bad snapping tendancies when using the elevator, and that is no fun at all. I setup with a Hitec Servo programmer and the difference was night and day. I will never go back to nonprogrammable servos again. Check out downonthedeck.com for some videos of setting up servos with the programmer.

Brad will do the graphics without the checkerboard or you can customize things any way you want. I didn't go with the checkerboard since it looked painful to put on.

Went with a flaming DA logo (which I found at another competitor) and he did it up and custom for me. He's now offering it to others, some regular decals like Hitec, Futaba, Fromeco, Extra 260 (large).

Haven't put them on yet so no pictures, maybe this weekend...

If your plane is pitching to the gear in KE already, moving the CG back will usually make it worse. as you move the CG back, you need more down-elevator trim to maintain level flight. When you roll to KE, that down trim now becomes yaw trim and will increase the tendancy to pitch to the wheels.

Yeah, my bad. I stand corrected. Well This is at stock CG and it pitches to the wheels. It does fly like it has a bunch of down thrust though. Anyone else notice this? Maybe I should bring some washers to the field and try removing some of it.

Just a plug for anyone looking for graphics...

Brad did a great job job for me and he will customize any graphics you want! Customer service is bar none and I would be happy to give my money to a guy working another full time job, running a family, and providing professional grade graphics for a great price for all of us.

If your in the market for graphics this is a no brainer...

I too have the Bad Brad Graphics and they do look very nice. He will custom make anything you want.

The CG on my 260 is at the stock location and I didn't have to do any mixing. The knife edges are perfect. This is the best built plane I own. It flies so straight and true and I did have to trim it at all. I wonder if the 100cc version is as nice. I may need to find out for myself.

And here are some of the graphics from Bad Brad. I have a few more to put on but a headache has been nagging me this evening and I went through some frustration switching out my Fromeco 4800mAh pack for a NiMH Intellect (NoBS Batteries) 3600mAh 6.0V pack for my Futaba receiver. The NiMH pack was nearly 12oz compared to 7oz Fromeco pack so I was going tail heavy and the pack was going nose heavy near the front tray. I ended up putting the pack very slightly forward of where I had the Fromeco's and CG comes out around 3 1/4" instead of 3" where I had it before... Hope it will not make much difference.

The Fromeco batteries were not performing well when the temperature was hovering around -2C to 5C here in Montreal a couple of weeks ago. I'll put my Fromeco pack back in in the spring time.

No, that's Smarks. My name is Nick and I have the 35% 260. For some reason, your name sounds familiar, though, but not the Jr. part? Surely we will meet sometime...

Hey Scott,

Didn't I fly with you that one day when you and Mark were working on your yak because it was locking out? It turned out to be the smoke pump? I think you were there when I maidened my Extra.

Yes Adam, that was me. I was wondering if that was you. I was at Crosswinds that day too when it was really windy and you were flying. That crosswind was giving you fits! Anyway, glad to know who you are now. Looking forward to flying with you again!

Well, I'm sure we have met several times, but I still can't put a face with the name. But I am sure I will remember next time we meet. I usually go out to Chatfield every weekend assuming I don't have other plans. Next time you see me, I would like to meet you..........again!

Haha, yeah, what was I thinking flying in it. That airplane didn't want to land. I spoke to some other guys after as well and they said I was nuts. :P Oh well, she's in one piece and I am having a great time. Send me PM next time you'll be at xwinds. I took some time off of work this week, but I don't know if you looked at the weather, we have the potential for a blizzard! But then again, the weather folks arent too right out in CO. Have a good one.

Ha ha, it's all good. I was just glad to see you get her on the ground ok! I am taking some time off this week too, but yes, the weather doesn't look good. But I will let you know next time I am out there. I spend most of my time at Chatfield, but like to get to xwinds every so often. It's a great place to practice.

Ok anyone have a trick to mounting the exhaust header on the DA-50 for a KS-86 canister? You can't get the bolt through on the side with the bend in the pipe. Do I have to have a stud installed on the engine??

Need help with Slimline smoke pump....

I'm trying to set up the pump using a 14oz smoke tank already installed and I know the target flow rate should be between 2~3 oz/min - I have no way of checking this unless I'm flying the plane using smoke and checking how long it lasts.

Anyone know a good starting point for this pump for ATV and thottle - pump mixing for good results. I'm using a 11.3 volt LiPo so I'm not sure if I will need to go to a 7.4 LiPo to slow the pump down.

If I pump just water through it without the pressure drop of the muffler, check valve and filter it pumps @ 6 oz/30 sec at ATV of 25% (as slow as I can go). I'm not sure how much the pressure drop increase for the above stuff will decrease the flow rate. I'm also using water to check flow rate so I'm sure the oil is slighty more viscous.

Someone gotta have some ideas to get close??

Thanks!
