Turbo charged 2-strokes are big in the snowmobile world plenty on reliable hp. The problem is its done with electronic fuel maping and detination sensors in the exaust both are not practical for rc unless you your using that engine in a 1/2 scale (that would be cool). The chainsaws that I've seen up here with what they call a turbo are made by Jonsered. I don't think they are really turbo charged, they may have a ducted fan on the crankshaft but this is not exaust driven so it's not really a turbo.

Edit: actually its not even for producing hp but it's a forced air cleanning system to remove the wood chips from the chain housing.

Mini turbos are not something we are going to see for RC gas boats for a time yet. To reasistically have a turbine wheel suitable for a zenoah and capable of producing boost will be one challenge. Tuning the motor will be a whole new ball game.

I recommend looking at the performance gains from the trusty old tuned pipe. I am sure the majority on this forum dont have their pipes tuned for optimal performance.

To consider a "bolt on" turbo for a Zenoah at this point in time is like talking about winning powerball - yep theres always a remote possibility but for now it is hype and excitement over nothing.

I believe the fastest four stroke is a gx31 with billet head, custom cams, raised compression etc. and is I beleave making 5.5hp compared to stock about 1hp. It is still not fast enough for most boaters 50mph

Here is a supercharged nitro car. I no it is not the same as a weedy motor but with reed valves it may work it may not. And as far as droping the compression you would need a cnc piston with a dish in it / make a new one. Moving the jug up will throw off the timing to far.

That's a nitro engine, not gas nor is it a turbo but a blower.
What they don't want you to know is that for the money you don't get much of a HP or RPM boost. I'd rather spend the $200.00 by sending an engine out and getting some modding work done as I'd see more of a gain.

It has instant power! and it has about 20% or 45% more power. Put it on a dyno. For that matter mod the motor and supercharge it!
It is exactly the same kindof power you would get from a 1:1

Indeed you can stick a turbo on anything but I cant say I see any turbos WORKING on any of the above motors - sure they will spin like a fan when exhaust gas hits them - but a true turbo installation will see boost being generated by the fan turning 100 000 rpm or more.

The lawn mower installs - swimming pool vaccuum hoses - more a joke. You override the standard throttle on any mower and they will sound much like those in the clip.

If they worked, they'd be used in racing, RB bought out a supercharger for their nitro engines, it doesn't work. A guy at our local track tried it on his engine, he was no faster & a lot slower with it.

Have a look at the speed records for anything IC powered in RC. None are held by a supercharged engine. They're all held by modified engines in either boats, cars or planes.

That's just my 2 cents.

Not to be rude but the guy oviously didn't/doesn't know what he is doing. Just like nitrous doesn't work right? Or superchargers don't work on 2 strokes right, Also don't make any power?

thread moved to off topic forum as it really has no boat or zenoah content

I think it is safe to say , they arent going to turbo charge these engines , no reason too , and if they did ever decide they were going to they would do it at the factory , no one would be able to build a bolt on turbo that worked so well and was so easy too install that everyone would go out and buy one , and they would go out of buisness , but if the company who makes the engines made a line of turbo charged engines that would be a different story , then they could be the ones doing the quality control making sure everything worked and then customers would probably purchase pre turboed engines , who wants a turboed mini engine anywasy you don't ride in the vehicle so you wont hear the turbo , and it probably wouldnt have a blow off valve , or not one that would make much of a noise , its basically a pointless discussion that could go on forever until an engine building company comes out with there own line of forced induction engines i doubt your going to see much in that area , so probably never.
