That would be nice!!! The t fitting on my setup is supposed to be a medium size fitting, but after looking at it I think the inside diameter is alot less than medium tubing. The same fitting is on the setup in my Giles and it's already turning 7700 rpm. The only diff is that this setup was in my Great Planes Extra and due to the lack of space the t fitting is less than an inch before the inlet of the pump. In my Giles it's almost a foot back. I think this made the difference, but I haven't tested that on the stand to verify it. I don't even have a bulkhead fitting on mine, so who knows what would happen if you cleaned up the intake line.

You may make some gains by modifying your muffler. I basically gained 1170 rpm by doing that because I had my needles were set for max rpm before the muffler modification. I have seen a few others reporting gains of around 500 rpm by modding the Bisson muffler, so I don't know why I saw such greater improvements? I's amazing how the littlest things can cause such big changes.

I'm still amazed/baffled that the 15% fuel made zero more rpm than the 5%. I thought that it would do something!?!?!?

I intended to ask if you had found an obstruction in the tee but now we know that the tee itself was the obstruction.
My fuel line tee is medium I.D. and the bulkhead fitting has a 1/8 inch I.D. so I don't think the fuel flow is impeded very much. It looks like I won't get that 1100 RPM increase by removing it.

I won't get the 500 RPM increase by cutting off the ends of the muffler exhaust pipes because the noise increase would be unacceptable at my fields. I've known about that modification for some time. That Bisson modification will gain you 300 RPM on an MVVS 1.60 gas engine.

Oh well, I guess my OS 1.60 is stuck at 8500 RPM.

By the way, my Giles with the MVVS 1.60 gas engine turns 8740 - 8800 RPM on a tuned pipe with an APC 18x6W.

So I'm not doing too bad then.......and on cheap 5% fuel too!!!! I think I'm really going to like the 1.60 now. The best part is that I'm still using around 1oz a minute, way less then a Saito (gotta like that sound though).

The sound won't be an issue at my field, but personally I don't really like the level or the pitch. It sounds like a dirt bike with blown out packing. Have any of you heard the Slimline before? I can kind of hear it in the Ultra RC Giles video and it sounds like it mighty be nice and throaty. Also, has anybody tried the 1.60 on smoke? From what I have read it may be a good canidate for smoke and if I'm buying a new Slimline anyways...........

G.P, glad to hear the OS is running better. I'll want to hear if the Katana is "rocket" now.
Speaking of Katana,.. from those who have the landing gear installed, what is the max prop size this plane will clear?
I know the OS 1.6 typically swing something around 18 inches. Is there enough clearance for a 20 inch prop (on a larger engine of course)?

Me too!!!
Unfortunately the snow is supposed to start tonight, so it will be a couple of months before I get to see what she does in a plane now.

For those running 26 gas with tuned pipes,.. or any engine I guess. What rpm do you tune the pipe for?
For 3d performance do you tune the pipe to kick in at a lower RPM? Say 2/3 throttle...
I would not expect that the pipe would be tuned for max RPM,... otherwise to make use of the pipe, the throttle would need to be wide open. How often does the plane get flown full throttle?

Thanks,
geoff

20" clears just fine. You could probably clear a 22 or 24 if you wanted.

Just install the MVVS pipe and header that comes with it and you're all set. The boost range of the pipe is broad and not peaky.

For a little more information go to the "Ultra R/C Giles 202 UL 29%" thread on page 42 and read my question (Post # 1031) and Dick Hanson's reply (Post # 1032).

Rocketman, thanks. that is what I was looking for!
Your Mvvs pipe and header must be the same as the Evolution ones the Horizon Web site. Any others I should consider?
And since you put you 26/pipe combo on the Giles (same as the Katana), how did you get the pipe into the fuselage pipe tunnel? Is the engine inverted at 45 degrees?

Cancel that question about the engine mount,... I read MANY of the Giles thread posts and saw how to mount the engine to get the pipe in the right place.

The Evolution is the same engine so I would expect the pipe and header to be the same. Don't use the silicone coupler that comes with the MVVS pipe because it will burn out. You will definitely need a Teflon coupler to withstand the exhaust heat of gasoline.

You can consider the lighter weight carbon fiber pipes from http://www.escomposites.com/petrol.htm , http://aeroslave.com/exhaust_systems.htm , http://www.centralhobbies.com/Exhaust/mufflers.html, etc. They are not cheap though.

Side mounting the engine makes a neat installation but you'll need a custom made header for gasoline from http://www.justengines.unseen.org/manifolds_c.htm or Karl Mueller Custom Headers at kgamueller@rogers.com (no web page).

are the fuses of the giles and katana the same size? looking at your picture, they look the same. The reason I ask is my giles crashed and only broke the fuse. Ultra rc wants $195 for a fuse or I can get the whole katana on ebay for $245.
Thanks

OMP had a few Giles left a couple of weeks ago. Great Hobbies here in Canada had a few too. You can probably pick up a whole plane for just a few more dollars. Other than that I would just go with the Katana as most of your gear should transfer over. The fuse on the Katana is much shorter, but you could probably get the wings to fit if you wanted. -Greg
