1:What servoes does CPLR use on his patternship?
anyone know?

2:after much consideration I think of using futaba S9252 on dual elevator, rudder and aileron, but I am alittle afraid of that the rudder would breake it.. any suggestion? and a JR 3810Tx and a JR s649 reseiver.

3: what work good on throttle?
would this settup work?

I personally am running the 9254 servo on the elevator, which was what CPLR was running before. It is only 48oz of torque, but have never had an issue, and have flown all of the FAI sequences and won rounds in Masters this year at the US Nats, but I had a mechanical issue. I run 9154's on the ailerons, but a lot of people are running 9151's or 9252's on the ailerons. If you want to use Futaba, I would recommend the 9351 on the rudder. I know some guys are also running the 9152 on the rudder, but it is a little heavier servo if weight is an issue. These are the servo's I'm running on my 10.5 lb NB Engineering Mantis with a YS 1.60DZ on the front of it.

Hello Archie,

Could you tell me why the futaba S9150 and S9154 exist?
There are flat aileron's servos. But the size is definitely not a problem on a 2X2m F3A pattern ship!?! For the same weight (or even less), a normal sized servo is way stronger and/or faster. (S9151, 9250,9252,9255)

Thank you,
Benoit

Hello Austis,

I used the S9252 on my ZN Synergy elevator. Great servo.
I put a S9250 on my new ZN Oxalys elevator. It works great as well.
I used S9151 on the rudder with satisfaction but I prefer the S9255 for the strong and faster behavior.

Cheers,
Benoit

They were originally developed for the much thinner wings for 7-8 years ago when the razor thin wing was the way to go. With the newer designs you are correct, you can run any servo in them without any problems.

Hope this helps,

Hi Archie,

What benefit have you seen running the 9254 servo for elevator over anything else Futaba produce? I know it is fast because I use it on the tail of my heli.
Was the mechanical issue associated with the servo or something else?

Cheers,

Peter

CPLR runs the same setup that I have been using to my knowledge. I do think he runs 9151's on his ailerons, but I might be wrong. I know he was running the 9254 servo on the elevator. The biggest advantage I have seen with the 9254 is how fast it returns to neutral. it is lightning fast and really helps with snaps. Shows the break quicker and more obvious. Also being a heli tail rotor servo it has a VERY tight center. It centers as well or better than any servo I've ever flown. HOWEVER that being said. The key is to run the best you can afford on all surfaces. If you fly JR, there is nothing wrong with that. Just because you fly the same servos that CPLR flies doesnt mean you are going to wake up tomorrow and fly like him. If you have a brand preference, you wont have any problems as long as you run the best servos your particular brand runs.

Arch,

If I remember right (and thats a big if at this point! ) CPLR had 9154's on his ailerons and a 9351 on his rudder in France. I could be wrong about the rudder because it was buried pretty deep in the fuse and hard to see.

Hi Guy's,

This is an old thread but it seemed an appropriate place to ask a question about S9154 servos. Futaba doesn't recommend using 6V on these servos. I plan to use a Multiplex regulator switch which regulates a 2S LiPo to 5.5V. I assume that this would be ok to use because a fully charged 4.8V pack could easilly exceed 5.5V. Can someone confirm if it's ok to use a 5.5V regulator?

Regards
Jason.

Jason,

I'm running the 9154's regulated at 6.5V and have been for the last couple of years. No problems. I have yet to find a servo that Futaba makes that wont run happily at that voltage. The new 9157's get a little jumpy about 6.2V, but they work fine below that. Some of the heli servos plugged straight into the gyro have to be 4.8V, but it is not the servo, it is the gyro. From a pattern standpoint, I've been running the 9154's, 9254, 9155, 9650's, BLS351, BLS451 and am waiting on the new BLS154. I have never had any problems with any of the above servos at 6.5V.

Hope this helps,

Arch
