yes, the flaps-up take-off was intentional.

I wanted to make sure that I have no behaviour-shift during maiden, so I took off without flaps and performed the first flight with gear-down only.

During next weekend I will test take-offs with 10° - 20° flaps

Using flaps needs about 10% - 15% elevator-down mixture to maintain level. Otherwise the CAT starts climbing steep as soon as you are using flaps.

There was absolutely no balance-change gear-up vs. gear-down

I balanced CG with gear-up to 117 mm like shown in the manual and with gear-down it moved forward about 10 mm, in this config there was really no balance-shift.

Congratulations for a great flight.

Curious as to what throws you started with and your satisfaction level. Same for the flaps.

Maybe we should start a spreadsheet of power, hardware, throws, weight etc. for the people just getting started. Can we post a spredasheet that we can all add to? If we can someone let me know how and I will start it.

Good idea with a common spreadsheet.

If somebody would make a suggestion how to start with such a sheet and how to get a common access...

For me it sounds like a very good idea to share all data.

I'm writing this message on my New Apple I-Mac computer. I'm going to classes once a week to learn how to operate my I-Mac and do Film Editing. I have thousands of feet of 16mm movie film that I am having put on DVD format so I can re-edit and have very professional DVDs. I seem to run out of time each day to do all the things I want to do. My propeller making business also keeps me busy. The racing guys want my special carbon formula 1 props. They are turning up to 35,000 RPM now. Glad to hear your back in the Modeling Hobby again. I've met and communicate with a lot of great people. Keep in touch...

the weight of my CAT is 13,5 kg without fuel and 14 kg with fuel.

During the weekend I improved landing-procedure and now I am able to land without bouncing.

My procedure is : In the same moment when the main-wheels are touching ground, I release elevator to neutral and the CAT is remaining on the ground without bouncing

any experience yet with the take off with flaps?
looks to me if you don't use your flaps , you need a very long runway...

and is your landing speed with full flaps much less?

Status: offline 		Ton, I am using the Saito 170 R3 engines, I did a quick price of the Solo props and all the needed parts...it comes out to nearly $700.00 USD. I will wait until I know the characteristics of the plane before spending another large sum of money on this ARF.

I have not tested take-offs with flaps.

It seems I could pull much earlier but as I have such a long runway to use I prefer to accelerate until pulling the elevator.

Landing speed with full flaps (50°) is slow enough to land on a approx. 80 m runway.

I decend with gear-down and 25° flaps during downwind and base. As soon as the plane is established on final set full flaps to 50° and use about 2/3 throttle !!!

Short of the threashold I close throttle to idle and flare out until touch down.

The CAT is breaking heavy with full flaps and using to less throttle means going too slow. This is ending in a mushy approach which is only to control with full thottle, pushing the elevator down and accelerating to perform a missed approach routine.

Status: offline 		oke Chasman , I can understand that. just was curious, cause I was looking to the same props... and I was wondering if the OS FS 200 can turn a 20 inch 3 bladed prop...

Detlef, thx for the flight info...since our field is not as big as yours..I was wondering how much runway I needed for landing...80 m seems to be ok.
nevertheless I hope you can do some take off's with flaps. 10-15 degree must be ok I think.
I always say the quicker you are loose from the gound the better...[)]
Nice to see that the sierra gear holds on rough landings too..[)]

I also planning a smokesystem in the Cat..anybody experience with this? on a big 4 stroke engine...

Status: offline 		DETLEF, EXCELLENT JOB ON YOUR MAIDEN FLIGHTS. THOSE G-26'S REALLY MAKE HER RIP! MY FIST LANDING WAS LIKE YOURS. I FOUND WITH A LITTLE DOWN ELEVATOR AS SOON AS THE MAINS TOUCH WILL STOP THE HOPPING AND PORPUSING. MY 2ND T-CAT IS COMING TOGETHER, GLUING THE WING TOGETHER, SO FAR SO GOOD. AM ANXOUS TO GET THIS PROJECT WRAPPED UP AND START UP AGAIN WHERE I LEFT OFF WITH IT BEFORE LAST FALL'S DISASTER........
