Hi Richard,

congratulations for your successfull maiden !!!

Do you use standard mufflers on the 20´s ?

Which prop you are using and how many revs it turns ?

Maybe 20´s is a better option than my 26´s as you save weight at nearly same power...

Chees, Detlef

I am using the standard mufflers. I am running without trumpet as this keeps the carb inside the cowl. I am using APC 17x8 narrow tip props at 7600rpm.These engines have been ran in this configuration in another plane before installing in my Tcat to ensure their reliability. The performance is fantastic. Should get the video on tomorrow for you to look at. My weight is 24.5lbs.( No doors fitted yet) I also angled back my main gear legs to make the aircraft more stable on the ground. Cheers Richard.

HI RICHARD,,

Did you use the standard retracts??
I see you used lightweight wheels on the mains..Good idea!!

Did you retain the standard power hungry e ignition? If so what batts you use?

I am going to get some Carbon wing tubes as the alu ones seem like a major overkill!

Good luck with future sorties..

Cordline,

Have you sussed out the source of carbon tubes yet? I was looking at doing the same thing with mine (various reasons) but found the cost is a bit feral. About AU$75 per tube was the best I could find. Have you found any better? At $150 for the exercise, I'll pass.

Keith

Hi There,
I used Century Jet retracts 1/5 th scale made for the KMP Tigercat. I used the lightweight wheels on the mains to save a little weight!!
I used the 3.7v lipo battery for the ignition which is recommended for the engine. On test aicraft flew all day on one charge.
The video should be on tomorrow.
I did not modify the centre section of the wing and used the standard tubes epoxyied in.
Cheers Richard.

Hi Guys,
Flew 3 more times today. All going well till I lost an engine!!! The Tigercat went into the familiar death roll but I managed to close the other throttle to idle and make an emergency landing wheels up in the short grass resulting in no damage at all. Did not even break prop!!!!!!! Don't know why the engine stopped yet. Will investigate soon.
Cheers Richard.

watched with great interest Pylons flights yesterday-he didnt exactly fly sedatleyhe was GOING for it, high power passes, steep pull ups with multiple rolls, loops, tight and large, model loved it, Pylon has done the basic build, with no doors etc, the 20s are EASILY enough power, more is not needed, this thing was the fastest bird in the sky, its weighes, abbut 24.5Lbs, conversation was taking place amongst the YT crew, thoughts where going toward making it heavier, there was a a moderate breeze blowing, but this thing just did NOT want to come down, it just floated, it looked superb, no damage from the wheels up, GREAT piloting skill there Pylon,

Hi there,,

As previously posted a Twin Sync device is available to prevent the "Death Roll" if one engine fails.
This units main function is to instantly bring the good engine to idle incase of engine failure.
When this occurs, bringing the throttle stick to idle will resume control of the good engine.
See www.rcshowcase.com for more details,,,I think sounds the goods for any Twin..and may save our Tigers..

Have any of you guys considered using Gyros on the rudder and maybe the ailerons to help counter the death roll until you can establish a plan for landing?

I beleive I will install them on my T-Cat.

I have heard some negative comments around the flying field about using Gyros but mostly they seem to be based on pride ( I don't need any stinking gyro! ) instead of logic. I am just looking to give me the best chance of dealing with a single engine condition if/when it occurs.

Thoughts? / Opinions?

I too have considered the gyros, I do not know how they would react in a flameout situ. tho, probably be okay. We have LOTS of $$$ in these birds springing for a gyro make make sense...

I'm about to maiden mine this week-end. It has G20's , Twinsync and a gyro on the rudder. Why make flying a twin more difficult & risky than it already is? Been there etc. I must say it looks magnificent and will be a showstopper at the field.
