Hi Scale 9 (Don't know your first name) Thanks for your response. If your Tigercat weighs-in at the weight many other Tigercat owners have -25 to 30 lbs, I feel you may be VERY low on power with 90 size engines for safe flight and for sure if you loose and engine in flight you will have basically no power for possible flight to a safe landing. The other subject is your control of the elevator with one servo. What many modelers forget, is that one of the Primary reasons for two servos is if you have one servo go BAD you have a back-up servo to get YOU HOME for another day. Another Plus for a second servo is the ability to adjust each elevator so you have similar trim position of each elevator. Have FUN, press-on and keep us up-dated with your project. Col. Ron, Very impressive installation of all components, but my MAIN question is "How do you keep your workshop so NEAT". Col. Chuck Winter

You have a neat freak build it in their shop I just pay for it! Lucky for me, A good friend of mine is doing the build. We hope to have it done for the Nall and will finish up the year at the NEAT FAIR (barring any problems)with lots of meets in between. Both of us belong to traveling R/C club named the R/C Gypsies. Here is a link to the meets we attend in the western New York area. Always a Great time camping at the feilds!

Hi Scale9, What size engines are you using, they look VERY small for this size airplane. I had originally used 2 RCV 90 engines and they were not at all adequate. Also using 1 (one) servo on the elevators and that common wire connecting both elevators may not be a SAFE design. Something to think about. Col. Chuck Winter

Hi Col.,
We used a common wire elevator joiner on mine and it has numerous flights at full tilt with a pair of YS 1.20AC's wailing away on each side. We used a nice thick 5/32" piano wire and it is working fantastically. MUCH safer (IMHO) than the flexible pushrods that were included with the kit...
I'm using a strong digital servo and a carbon fibre rod with 4-40 titanium ends as the pushrod and it is rock solid.
The common joiner assures that both halves stay aligned - so no individual trimming is needed.
The only issue would fall under redundancy, but I can say that, in all my years of doing this, I've not had a quality servo fail on a flight control - ever. Doesn't mean it can't, just that it hasn't. I've had old, cheap servos stop working when used as a gear actuating servo, but never a digital...

I do agree about the power issue. If one of those .90's goes away, I wouldn't want to be at the sticks either!

Hi Ron,
Good thing you sprung the dough for the Sierras up-front. You will NOT regret it. You also won't ever know HOW much you have missed out on in terms of frustration by doing them from the start!
Looking great.
I would love to hear what a pair of 19" 3-bladed props sounds like up there. WOW!
Keep us "slimer" boys updated. I'd like to know what your all up weight is with batteries when you are ready to fly.

With any luck It will be under 30lbs The first setup we were considering would have weighed 2.25lbs less. this is much closer to scale props I think we will end up with 18x10 3 blade Mejzliks that will be in the 6.5 to 7 hp range or 5000 watts/ 166 watts per pound.

I am surprised no one has noticed the wing tubes.

That's enough electrons to blow my head off of my shoulders! Woo Hoo, it should go good.....................................

I noticed that it looks like it's from a Hangar 9 Extra 260 ? Why didn't you mount the tube in the outer panel to REALLY shorten the span??? I guess every bit helps... Not being critical - just askin
You've got Watts n Gear Doors - I've only got the Sierras!
Regards,
Wally

The wing tube is not attached to the outer or inner wing it just slides out of the center section for easy storage.

Hi Ron & Ton, Great pictures from both of you CAT guys. It's always interesting how MANY different approaches are taken to solve a similar problem. I think that is what makes this hobby FUN and at times Very Frustrating. GOOD SHOW guys. Col. Chuck Winter

I like the scale art work on the nose gear door. The linkage to the door is very creative. Tongoede, have you flown your Tiger cat yet? Also, did you reinforce the center section of the wing were the wing tubes are I noticed you did cut several holes in the fiberglass sheeting for the equipment installation are you worried about it being weakened ?

Hello Ron,

No , the bird is still waiting for its first maiden flight.
I need a big enough airstrip for trying out.
Our Clubfield is maybe big enough, but I am not sure.
I think the cat needs a big landingfield because of the wing/ weight ratio.
I don't think T/o will be a problem....Power enough...
I did reeinforce the center wing section, so I am not worry about the strength...
Engines now are running very reliable and smooth.
I am using a twinsync system from rc showcase with the glowsystem together, and its working very nice!!!!
I also made my wingtip sections seperate, for easy storing and easy transport.
I am using the 2 receiver system of ACT, so all servo's are individually programable. together with the power box and 2 x 5 cell 2400 mAh batteries all works very nice!
Now, lets hope it will fly nice too!!!!! You know what they say; when it looks right , it flies right!!!!

Ton

Hi Tongeode

How did you reinforce the center section of the wing? and what RPM do you get on the 16x8 3 blade master airscrew prop? I was roing to use 16x10 3 blade master airscrew but decided to go with a 18x10 mejzlik after doing some testing on the ground.

Also.......................I like the white gear!

Hello Ron,

Yes the gear has been painted white....just as the original...
The center section of the wing is reiinforced with two multiplex spares with carbon strings. It looks a lot like the reinforcement of col. Chuck Winter....
The rpm on the master airscrew 16 x 8 is around 8800 Rpm....
Power enough I would think
He Ron aren't You are going to use the carbon 19 x 10 prop? looks awefully cool on the cat!!!!
What kind of motor are you going to use?

cheers,
Ton

He Ron,

Here some more pix of the wing tips ....
the alu. tubes are fixed in the wing tip part, and when mounted they are going through the nacelles to the center wing part, where they are mounted with a nylon M4 bolt.

cheers,
Ton

Hi Ron, Question Did you make the Nose Gear Door stand-off unit (Looks like brass) that engages the TRACKS in the Nose Gear Door. I have my Sierra Retracts working well and holding 100 PSI for many hours in the UP and Down position. Hope to get another flight in tomorrow. If all goes well I want to re-attach all my doors but have to make a Nose Gear door Pulling Unit. Thanks Col. Chuck Winter

Main wing mounted. I used 1/4 x20s - 3" steel in the front and 2" aluminum in the back. Better than the Chinametal and plastic i think. Also 1/4 x20 outer wing mounting bolt. Secures and locates in one.
