Yes, I have the new composite KMP F7F Tigercat. It came in one BIG box last month. I haven't started building it yet, too many projects ahead of it. But I did take it out of the box and went through it. Well worth the price. I bought my through ChiefAircraft.com. Same price as buying directly through KMP but the shipping was a whole lot cheaper. I plan on using two O.S. 1.20 four strokes with 3xbladed props. Should be no problems. They did a good job all around on this T-cat , the color, decals, detailed wings and the body. Should look pretty nice once completed!

I've been trying to ge one from KMP for ages now. I just emailed Chief to see if they have one.
If your OS 120 is the surpass 3 then you may want to try ASP 13.8x10 4 blades on those engines. I'm running those props on my VQ P-61 OS91 fx's...... AWESOME and Saturday will maiden the Hanger9 Hellcat 60 with a OS120 surpass 3 and a 13.8X10 4 blade....... Watchout!

I just ordered an Adams Aircraft A-500 from KMP but that won't be in till the end of May

fgpierce,

I have the Surpass II engines. I want to try and keep it scale looking, so I want to stick with the 3xblade props like the full scale T-cat. But it should look good on your Black Widow, the real ones did have 4xblade props on them. I ordered my T-cat back in Jan 07 - finally got it late March 07. How do you like the VQ P-61? That was my second choice twin. But I went with the F7F instead. Do you have the black one or the OD green one? That Hanger 9 Hellcat should really move out, nice lookin airplane. Send me some pics of your P-61 if you have any, thanks!

My P-61 is black! I consider the quality, covering and flight characterisics to be outstanding! The covering does not wrinkel in the hot SoCal sun.
It's like a "Locamotive on steriods" and "nimbal on the gimbals". She shows her fighter qualitys really well. Always draws curious people and they're always asking .... When are you going o fly it? I have always had to sky to myself .... 'cause no one wants to be blown out of the sky by this bad girl!
I had to belly it in once due to a lost wheel on takeoff. She now has 2 layers of Kevlar on the belly just in case! I've never had a engine out with this one but the reports are good that it's a "non-event" when it happens due to it's LARGE vertical stabs and rudders.
I have her in the shop right now getting her ready for an airshow we do at Redlands airport every year.
My Pics are on a hard drive that's acing up but there is one in my rcu gallery.
The 3 blades will great on the F7F
Oh and Cheif doesn't have any Tigercats in stock...... Damit

fgpierce,

Sounds like you have a show stopper with your Black Widow. Happy hunting for your T-cat, it's well worth the wait. Unfortunately, I won't have my T-cat ready until next year for our club's Warbird event.

Is the canopy shape on this model scale? I can't find any photos of Tigercats with the canopy shape that the ESM model has.

I'm not sure what the ESM model looks like. But the KMP Tigercat is about as close to scale as you can get. I have the Signal Squadron F7F Tigercat book (no longer published). It has plenty of black and white pictures and several color side views. The canopy, front and rear, looks just like the pictures. Hope that helps!

ESM is the manufacturer of the planes sold by KMP.

The canopy on the full size has a straight line along the top and to the rear fueslage while the KMP model has a bump at the rear window.

Thanks for the info. I guess I'll have to go back and look at the pictures and airplane again. But the KMP T-cat looks pretty darn good for an ARF.

Tahustvedt,

I did some research on the bump that you were talking about on the KMP Tigercat. It looks like that bump is no mistake. On the real T-Cats they are found on the F7F-2N versions. It's an early night fighter version and it provided extra head room for the Radar Operator. But all other versions with the rear canopy had a smooth (no bump) back from the pilot's station to the rear station. They took out the second crewmember and added more avionics. In addition, the earlier T-cats had a smaller vertical fin and rudder. The F7F-3 went to a larger vertical fin and rudder, the F7F-3s tail is 3 feet taller than the previous T-cats. So I think that the KMP Tigercat has a little of both T-cats in it. I couldn't find any good pictures of the canopy but I did find some T-cat sketches of the canopies out of the Squadron/Signal Publications book - F7F Tigercat in Action #79. I will email those to you. That was a good observation on your part!
And by the way, right on the side of the box it does say "A product and Design by ESM". I never noticed that either!

I found a few sketches that may help answer the question about the rear bump canopy on the KMP F7F-3 Tigercat.
