glowplug50 -> DOminator 1500 (10/2/2006 1:16:09 AM)

What kind of participation in this class is being experienced? Are there enough competitors to make this a worth while investment?
If so, what is the prefered engine, the Tigre or the Moki. Also, what are typical top speeds with this airframe?
Thanks

DMyer -> RE: DOminator 1500 (10/2/2006 9:27:09 PM)

On the same subject.... if all the dimensions of a Lanier 1500 dominator are followed.... are airfoils. moments etc allowed to be modified?

glowplug50 -> RE: DOminator 1500 (10/2/2006 10:14:47 PM)

I don't beleive so as is this is supposed to ne a one design competition. I could be wrong.

glowplug50 -> RE: DOminator 1500 (10/3/2006 2:46:47 AM)

Not to be impatient but is anyone racing these planes?

Lifes a Drag -> RE: DOminator 1500 (10/3/2006 3:30:26 AM)

They will be racing at Parker Arizona this month.

Captain Easy -> RE: DOminator 1500 (10/4/2006 2:28:34 PM)

Pilots at the usra races use the moki 2.10
the dom plane specs are in usra rule
kit is prefered but scratch building is ok built to specs

DMyer -> RE: DOminator 1500 (10/4/2006 3:03:25 PM)

My reading of the specs are basically minimum measurements at various locations plus exposed control horns.... there is nothing that specifies airfoils... pinching the fuse sides in after wing etc or many other minor mods that add up to a slicker airframe similar to what is done in 428 racing. Always wanted to build one of these for fun... or even to race if there ever was a convienent opportunity on the east coast.

Captain Easy -> RE: DOminator 1500 (10/4/2006 3:34:46 PM)

DMyer
All those things you suggested to do have been done
Skin hinges and wipers are definitely not allowed

DMyer -> RE: DOminator 1500 (10/4/2006 6:38:56 PM)

Then it should be put into the rules exactly what is/or is not allowed otherwise if I built a homegrown Dominator sporting a 66-012 airfoil fiberglassed/painted wing with skinned sealed hinges and showed up at a race I would expect to fly as nothing in the rules states I can't do that. It may be obvious to you and the others flying this provisional class that it is not the intent to permit these types of mods to the one-design - but unless you put the cap on the genie he will get out.... as an example Quickie 500 is a long long way from the original intent Spickler 500 and a K&B in cost, complexity amd number of pilots participating. JMO. And I still have always wanted to build one of these.

"Simple rules" complicate your life. Complete, well-thought-out rules simplify your life.

Every. Single. Time.

Speeds????????

Captain Easy -> RE: DOminator 1500 (10/5/2006 1:56:33 PM)

glowplug50
dominator speeds are in the 130 mph range
times for the 6 laps 125 seconds for fast time

glowplug50 -> RE: DOminator 1500 (10/6/2006 12:31:42 PM)

Thankyou for the response. Getting info on this plane is like pulling teeth.

HighPlains -> RE: DOminator 1500 (10/6/2006 2:01:36 PM)

What prop and RPM are the Moki's turning?

Captain Easy -> RE: DOminator 1500 (10/6/2006 2:34:27 PM)

HighPlains:
APC 17x12 is supplied by the race cd
RPM's around 8500

glowplug50 -> RE: DOminator 1500 (10/10/2006 3:16:44 AM)

Does anyone know who if any one is selling the Moki 210.

Wreckless Racing -> RE: DOminator 1500 (10/11/2006 8:26:41 PM)

the Moki 2.10 is still being sold...im not sure on the site...try surfing around but i do know for a fact that Moki is still in production.

Thank you.

MFLOOD3800 -> RE: DOminator 1500 (10/21/2006 1:43:53 AM)

The dominators are used to be an "entry" level class.
They intend to keep the class as common as can be. Many of these Lanier Dominator owners vaccum bag the wings so there are some changes used. Why dont you go on the usra web page and ask there?
I fly Gt class so I am not in a position to answer correctly.
No doubt the Moki is engine of choice.

glowplug50 -> RE: DOminator 1500 (10/21/2006 2:02:20 AM)

I have posted these questuions on several sites. The USRA contact has never responded to me. I did however receove a call from a very nice gentelman a week or so ago answering my questions.

The plane looks like a lot of fun.

Apparently the Moki is the engine of choice.

Apparently the Moki is hard to find at the moment.

The speeds are in the 120 to 130 mph area.

Participation is very limited.

My take is if you want to build it for fun then do so. If you want to race then be willing to travel and don't expect to many competitors in your class.

MFLOOD3800 -> RE: DOminator 1500 (10/21/2006 2:35:51 AM)

I have not seen the posting on the USRA web site
http://www.usrainfo.org/

I would disagree that entries are low. It is a beginner class so they will always be lower than other classes.
All you need is 4 or 5 to make a heat race. Last year at Parker, az they had enough for a class
First race of the year in Rantoul, Il they had enough for a race, yes at Ohio they didnt but that is because a lot of the pilots come from the west coast and Ohio is a long drive, Depending on where you live and what races you plan to attend it could still be a good purchase. shoot at Ohio there were hardly any entries other than in GT class!!
The race next weekend at Parker, az has over 70 entries and this sport is starting to grow in huge leaps and bounds.
there will for sure be a race for them there.

glowplug50 -> RE: DOminator 1500 (10/21/2006 3:12:26 AM)

70 entries in which class?

glowplug50 -> RE: DOminator 1500 (10/21/2006 3:15:02 AM)

PS, I did not post on the USRA site because it looks like you have to become a member to post there.

MFLOOD3800 -> RE: DOminator 1500 (10/21/2006 3:15:20 AM)

in all classes combined
25 or more in GT
17 or more in Unlimited the rest Im not sure on

MFLOOD3800 -> RE: DOminator 1500 (10/21/2006 3:16:51 AM)

membership is free and takes about 15 seconds and is worth it
