ALRIGHTY,

Today, my ramp hinge concept has become reality. Using 2 brass tubes (1/8 & 5/32 I think) and a .025 strip of brass, I constructed my hinge. I only caused a small fire in the workshop while soldering with my mini-torch.

Here is the hinge mock up:
Pic 1= shows the basic construction and fit of the hinge. I used a large center tab that will attach to the ramp. The two smaller tabs will be attached to the lower fuselage.

Pic 2= Ramp Closed, no hinge issues

Pic 3= Ramp opens much further than picture depicts, I limited it with a plastic cup to the approx opening distance.

Pic 4= Shot of the ramp looking forward. There will be a minimal gap at the hinge point.

Mike

Troy,

Its a slick hinge and seems to work out well with its position. I made a similar hinge for the upper ramp. It takes alittle time to line up the tabs, but its strong once soldered.

Mike,
Are you attaching the hinge with epoxy or fastners?

Troy,

I will probably use a combination of both. My first thoughts for mounting are to drill multiple holes to allow more surface area when epoxying. Then put a screw through the center to permanently attach the hinge.

The upper ramp hinge will be trimmed to follow the contour.

Mario,

Wow, thats a sharp looking aircraft! I hope mine looks as good when I'm done.

Troy,

Where are the NAV, Strobe, and landing lights on the C-130? I think I know, but I want to make sure.

Mike,

The landing lights are located inside the main gear doors and on a mount near the front of the hard points for the aux fuel pylon. A total of 4 lights. The nav lights,.... there is a clear domed red strobe just behind where the nose gear aft door stops. Ah I'm gonna need to look at a few more things to give you better specifics on location and type.

Hey Mike and anyone else thinking about the c-130

well Mike don't shoot me but I took apart what I had built and am adding the extension mods from Lockheed. Will try to get up the additional drawing tomorrow.

I've included the file that explains the mod. Well, I could only upload the pic.

Troy,

What exactly is the mod? It looks like you will be extending the fuselage.
