mack; no prob! I found they were much more durable.

Jim, sweet man! I love it, can't wait to see the whole thing! I'm in the process of painting my art-tech Corsair, see my post on the struggling with single rotor basics v2 thread, page 215

Okay I got the new rotor head (V2) that has the pin that goes thru it and the shaft. Is there a easy way to push it thru? The metal pin is a soft metal and likes to bend if you use to much pressure. I lined up the holes with a straight pin and have gotten it to go thru to where it barely starts coming out the other side but like I said its a very soft metal and it loves to bend. Any advice???????????????

Thanks

I use a sewing machine needle, it self aligns. Just cut off teh two ends that are left sticking out.
I get them at Wal-Mart, can also be gotten at most anyplace.

I just twist the pin in with small pliers starting as close to the rotor head and keep working it in that way.
The needle idea is excellent. I'll have to give that a go.

The best part is that being a Machine needle you have teh square shank to better grip with the pliers., and you can buy replacements.

Also thanks for the advice about the main blades. The HoneyBee ones work great, in fact they are tougher the stock Falcon ones and seems to have more lift in them...

I have the v2 with the smaller holes for mounting the blades.  Do these HoneyBee blades have the smaller holes?  I have successfully used v1 blades along with the inserts that come with the v2 blades but I'm sure the day will come where either I lose an insert or it will get damaged.

But for what it's worth, the v1 blades do not seem to split as easily as the v2 blades.

Also, came across these today:

http://www.helipal.com/airy-harden-blade-ii-ax-09.html

Any thoughts?

Cheers,

Drew

I'm new to the hobby.  After doing my reading, I settled on the Exceed Falcon 40 v2 for a trainer. It may not have been the best choice but between Radd's Flight School, HeliSimRC, and flying my own bird, I'm starting to have some limited success and haven't broken too many things.   But I still find my bird fairly unstable.  If it was as stable as the one in HeliSim, I'd be flying pretty well by now.

I've balanced the main rotor blades.  I don't seem to have any serious vibration.  I've played with linkage lengths the ensure a level swashplate (as viewed by my eye). I set the flybar paddles level with the rotor head ring (again, by eye).  It's level when holding by the flybar perpendicular to the body.  I"ve even increased the sensitivity of the gyro to full (and there's no tail wag heh, it takes 70% right trim to keep the tail from constantly swinging to the left)  So I think I've done everything there is as far as set up goes.

So, is it just me?  Are these things just that unstable? Or are there some upgrades I can do to get a bit more stability?  In other words, not change movements so much when I'm not giving any stick input.  For example, I saw a YouTube video where a guy was touting the benefits of EZ SuperBlades and how his copter was hovering in place with no stick movement.  I've also read about direct drive tail rotor mods and that they give better tail control.  Is any of this applicable to or available for the Exceed Falcon 40 v2?  I'm somewhat OK with modifying parts to make things work if given the proper instruction.

Are there other things I might do for more stability?  Better servos, links, swashplates, etc.?

Nudges to more reading material are welcome.

Thanks for your help and advice,

Drew

hey imacamper; to answer your Qs, first off the honey bee fp blades are exactly the same as the v1 blades just more durable and better quality, so if you need spacers ofr the v1 blades you'll need them for the honey bee blades.

it's pretty expected that the heli will wobble around with it stock like yours. I had SuperBlades EZ and they worked great! Made the heli like almost like a coaxial in flight. You can get a Direct Drive tail motor, I did but overall the stock tail works fine IMO. If you want crisper response once you're getting into forwards fight you should consider switching, stick with the orig for now though unless it's really bugging you!

if I missed a Q point it out
-Max

Hi maxmax,

Thanks for your reply.  OK, I'll just order v2 blades when I need more spacers.  I have 4 sets of v1 blades now.  Once I wreck all those, I'll try the HoneyBee.

I'm actually trying to hover and control it a hit higher than I have been.  However it got away from me yesterday and my flight ended with a fairly spectacular crash against the rain gutter of the house.   Although I have training gear, one of the landing skids hit the corner of the gutter.  It bent in the middle and broke the front plastic leg.

I've heard so much about SuperSkids.  Are they worth the money and will they fit on the v2?

Thanks,

Drew

OK, I think the SuperSkids 200 are what would fit the v2. Is that correct?  And do I need some adapter plate or not?  I'm confused.

Thanks,

Drew

You do not need an adaptor to use teh SuperSkids on the V-2 they will fit the frame after you remove the adaptor that comes on the V2 frame.

Imacamper,
A picture is worth 1000 words. So I hope these help answer your question how the superskids attach to the falcon frame.

Thank you so much!  I'm sure that will be very helpful when I get my SuperSkids.  To fly in the meantime, I was able to straighten the actual skid (pretty darn well, I might add I was afraid I'd actually break it while trying to bend it back.).  I then glued the plastic leg back together.  Since all my skids do now is hold my training gear, I'm hoping I'll get a way with this for a while.

Cheers,

Drew

When the stock skids broke I'd fix them with sewing thread and crasy glue. That made them MUCH stronger. Just a thought.

By teh way the only differance in the V1 and V2 frame is the adaptors.
So if you break a frame you can order the V1 frame .
US Hobby Supply has frames on sale Buy One Get One
https://www.ushobbysupply.com/product_info.php?products_id=54
For the V2 fliers most V1 parts will work on the V2.

I know the rotor head and electronics are different.  And apparently the frames are a bit different, I assume because of the landing skids? Other than that, is everything else interchangeable?

Thanks,

Drew

P.S.  I didn't take any pics before my repair but here are some after.  That metal skid had about a 20 -30 degree bend in it.

You are correct. The head and electrics are different and as the pictures supplied the only difference in the frame is teh screw on adaptor.
That makes it easier to get parts, also the Walkera #4 and 4#1 are the same as the falcon 40v1 These are the older ones not the new style 4 with 2.4G electrics

Thanks for your reply.  If/when I break my rotor head, can I replace it with a v1 style?  And if I can, what would be the cons of doing so?  The pro I see is the availability of many after market rotor blades for the v1.

Thanks,

Drew

Drew replacing teh V2 head with a V1 head is not a bad idea, Newer is not always better. I cannot see a down side. As long as the main rotor shafts are the same diameters it should work fine.
Here we go again back to US Hobby Supply. He has a custom CNC aluminimum rotor core.
Works great. but he only has a couple of them left.
https://www.ushobbysupply.com/product_info.php?products_id=832
If you havent figured it out I get most all of my parts from him.
Excellent customer service and very fast to ship to you.
