well, just got my replacement rotor heads today. Put it all together and was ready to go. I did my first flight of the day in my garage(its winter here), and did a nice 40-45 second hover. This is only my 5-6th battery so im pretty happy. Its charging up right now for another flight tonight. I love this!!!

weeweeboi, those should fit the Falcon40...not as good as the SuperSkids V3 but not bad for $12.99.

rcmaster123, that's a good deal on the blades especailly if you go through a lot of them. I would definitely order as long as they don't rape you on shipping.

CheeseNeggs, glad you're doing so well. This is definitely an addicting hobby.

got done with my second battery for the day and wow, huge improvement!! I timed my hovers. lol. I got about 2 1/2 minutes towards the end of my battery and then I only had enough power to hover about a foot off the ground so I stopped. I hope to do even beter tommorow. My goal is to keep her up for a whole battery.

yes im going to try them as soon as i get my paycheck (jan 25th) but you have to add shipping and get time to do it so it might be first week of feb

but as you said, they are cheap so you cant go wrong and most important you can use them in your next heli if you want to, not like that cheap walkera servo lol

quote:

ORIGINAL: J-Cube

I'll never buy another Walkera servo!

makatron, are you going to try the HS-55? I was just hoping that maybe someone else wanted to try these servos before I invested in some.

They're not that expensive on Tower Hobbies. Only $10 each. I may get some real soon whether you do or don't.

Just a quick note to report my findings, in earlier posts I was seeking info about what I thought was a battery problem, then a motor problem...... It was the motor, my new parts arrived today. Installed the motor first and tried it with the old batt, flew great. If you find you are losing power and the motor is getting hot it is probably the brushes going, I believe that is what happened to mine. I also suggest you install a fuse between the motors and the 4 in 1 reciever, on the walkeria forum they have been blowing the 4 in 1's when the motors go bad or a crash that ties up the blades. Their is also some discussion on the JST plugs and are they to fragile and causing elec problems. If anyone has replaced theirs, what did you use ?

a10bolt - Thank You! Just what I needed for a trouble free setup of FMS/PPjoy.

TitaniumZX, thanks for the pics of the bearing retainer mod, will be doing that one before the first flight.

I have been fooling around with FMS, and can fly all the heli models that come with it. I have a question for everyone who has actually flown the falcon and the models on FMS. Which one is MOST like the Falcon? I realize the FMS is a free sim, and some say sub-par, but I think it helps on some level. I expect the falcon to handle as twitchy as the ThreeDee, and as mellow as the Hughes as far as ability (3D etc). Let me know which one is most like the Falcon.

Thanks

the fuse mod is really only needed if your going with a brushless setup and lipos. I wouldn't worry about putting a fuse on these falcon 40s with stock parts. as for the jst's. They are ok, I have flown with them on airplanes and now helis. If you really want to change those, Deans makes some VERY nice plugs. I have used those on my airplanes.

Actually the JST connectors aren't all that bad for low current applications, its the wire leading from the connector that causes the problem, gets stressed from constant plugging/unplugging. Why is the wire to the 4-1 board so amazingly SHORT????!!!!
C'mon how about another inch of wire please!!!

Well, the solution is simple. Replace the old factory JST connector with a specific connector called a "DEANS Ultra Plug" They are red in color. You can find them at any hobby shop, especially one that sells R/C car parts.

The male plug is part #1302 and the female part # is 1301. These even come with the heatshrink tubing needed to complete the job.

Hope you can solder... Practice on something else if you need to 1st. Lots of soldering tutorials on the web if needed.

Good Luck, Robo

turns out my receiver is smoked, i opened it up and looked at the chip where the main rotor wires go and its all burnt up. Anybody know where i can get another one cheap, and why this could have happened?
hey wee,
i agree with titanium not as good as the superskids, more expensive but look AWESOME and real real easy to install. It handles better with them too

Welllllll, I broke my Rotor Head Core, and Raidentech is sold out!!! NitroModels has one for $4, but it's $9.00 shipping. What the heck kind of crap is that. I thought I read something about free shipping at one of the sites after a certain amount spent......was it Nitro?

Thanks guys

AirGerbil,

Try "US Hobby" they advertised them on there web, shipping appears reasonable. Hobbytron also carries them but watch out... ALL SALES FINAL, they do not offer service after the sale, nor will they accept returns. I just recieved a pair from raidentech and had to wait 2 weeks for them, apparently a lot of crashes going on.

Robo,

Yes I have looked at the Deans plugs, giving them some consideration, but would have to change all my r/c equipment over so all the plugs would match ( truck, boat, heli, charger) I have been told there is a JST plug in gold that is a little more heavy duty, that is better currant flow, that you solder yourself. Will be looking at those also when I find them. Soldering is no problem, I have been doing that for over 30 years and have a micro soldering pencil for the tiny areas.
As far as the fuse mods, they cost a total of four bucks with the spade terminals so you can plug and unplug more easily, just a good piece of mind. Those 4 in 1 's aren't cheap, a two dollar fuse is...........

AirGerbil, when i ordered my rotor head core from xheli i checked raidentech and there shiping was the same price as xheli ''9$''. anouther thing, my confermation in my email says ordered cancled. Does this mean there on back order and ill get it later or does it mean its canceled and my account got refunded or never got charged.
I know things r designed to break to save more critical parts from breaking but have you read all the threads of thies rotor head cores. I noticed there isnt alot of mass in them and they take most of the torqe especialy when the blades spool up. I can see where they would where out very fast. Like i said in a post befor, i never had any bad crashes or rotors hitting anything when mine broke. And by close inpection it looked like the 2 little ears just twisted off '' the 2 little ears that fork up just below the bearings''. if you look back at page 16 you will see a pic i posted of it. Just wandering if anyone elses broke this same way?

When i get my new head in have a plane to reinforce it. Simalar to the pin method to keep the bearings from falling off but insted of a pin useing a bigger pin the exact same diameter as the little hole and reinforceing it this way, that is if i can come up with a pin the right sise. That should atleast reinforce the 2 little easr together..whada yall think Tony

Tonywayne,

I am surprised at the ease at which your rotor head core is breaking, I have been thru 3 during my early training but in each case I had slammed the rotor blades into something. I have not had a break in almost a month (knock on wood! ) even with some minor crashes. I would definetly check your blade balance and make sure everything is in proper order and their is nothing dragging or causing a drag. Are your main blades a little loose? Mine will vibrate on spoolup but just past fast idle they smooth out from cetrifical force. How well does the rotor head fit onto the core/bearings, it should snap on with only a little effort, if this would be to tight that could cause you a problem. Mine have only broke one leg at a time never both legs, not sure if the wire support for the bearings had anything to do with it or not.......Wish I had more ideas for you......

Therick,
One of my core ears cracked before, I had carefully glued it back on with Zap ca, created a little fillet in the base between the two ears with zap and let it dry overnite. Flew with this setup for 5 days until the replacements came in the mail. I had to make sure I did not fly into anything, some very carefull conservative flying had to be done but it worked.

I checked your pic from page 16. Mine only snapped off one side, but at the same spot. I'm not sure when mine broke, but it could have been from a sever impact..... who knows.
