I have considered that. But now I'm not convinced its the motor. I put the OEM motor back in and now I have the same problem with that one too. It's actually getting worse not better with adjustments. Now sometimes during flight the tail will kick 90 degrees right for no reason. It is happening both at home and at the office today. Same wag and twitching. I'm getting really frustrated. I have no one in the office today but me so I have had some oppertunity to work on it. I took it completly apart and checked everything. Every connection, every mechanical thing everything. I can't find anything wrong at all. All connections are solid I even resoldered one I thought may be a little loose. I even opened up the Tx and checked the connections in there.

Anyone have any new thoughts based on this new info. I really don't have a clue. Falcon is coming dangerously close to being in the trash compactor!

Sounds like you are having the same problem I had with my Falcon - no matter what I did, I started getting tail glitches where it would 90 away from tail-in. Once, it spun 3 times before I knew what happened. Then the aileron servo started twitching. At first I thought it was my brushless motor setup (interference from the ESC or brushed-to-brushless converter) so I reinstalled my Slo-Max - Same problem. Then I thought it was the receiver, so I swapped it - same problem. I changed the servos from OEM > HiTec > Generic Brand, same problem. The only thing left I thought was the radio or crystals. I never did find out exactly what the issue was because I went full separates:

  • Walkera 7-channel Rx and Tx
  • E-Sky rate gyro (Thanks billmay!)
  • GWS Tail motor with direct-drive prop (Thanks Wade!)
  • Brushless ESC and motor for main rotor
  • Brushed ESC for tail motor

She's solid as a rock now, at least in terms of radio performance the flying is another story Wanna see?

yea i am having the same problem with mine.. every great once in a while the tail takes a 90 on me.. not sure what it is.. but for 84 bucks who can complain.?? these are great little heli's to learn on for sure, i just wouldn't get too hung up on them. after you get good at flying it, its time to sell it, recoupe some of the money out of it, and move on to bigger and better things,, i am not bashing the falcon at all, so please do not take this the wrong way.. i enjoy flying it in the house and around the yard.. but my hbk2 is a smooth flyer but requires more room to stretch its legs.. i will probably not sell the falcon though.. i do enjoy flying it.. but the hbk2 puts a big smile on my face.. now i am building a copterx 450se v2.. can't wait to see how it does also..

Then I thought it was the receiver, so I swapped it - same problem.

I don't have any glitches. I can say, having fixed 7-8 4in1s and flown a battery through each of them on my bird, I didn't see any different between one 4in1 and another.

I got it back this evening. Man it's a touchy little thing. After lots of adjusting and testing I finally got it back to the state it was in before all this. Got pretty frustrated there for a little while. I ended up taking the whole thing back apart and rebuilding it again then taking the pot in small adjustments all the way around until I found the sweet spot. The CPP tail motor won't work at all in it. It must just have too much for the gyro to handle. Funny thing is I have heard of several people running that motor in the Walkera 4 without problem. Maybe if the Falcon had a gain pot I could get it to work. On the high side all of the mechanical adjusting now that I have the tail back it hovers much better than it did before and that was pretty well. I can set it in stable hover and take my fingers off the cyclic for 5 or 6 seconds before it moves. It never held that long before. I suppose that is a good thing.

Thanks for all of the replies trying to help. I appreciate the effort.

Now that I'm in a good mood again happy hovering!!

The best solution would be to convert the 4in1 to brushless and use a Losi 10,250Kv BL motor for the tail with a much faster ESC. A BL converter is available for $15 from TheSteve. I have done a diagram on how it can be installed if anyone is interested. The BL solution is well worth the effort for those who fly a lot.

I have a brushless main motor and have been looking at several brushless tail motor solutions. Feigao makes a motor that is popular and mounts directly in place of the OEM motor (will work similar to the GWS direct-drive setup I have). Medusa Research also makes a 12mm brushless inrunner.

Do you have a part number, or a link to where you got the Losi 10250kv motor? I'd like to see photos of how your heli is set up with the brushless tail

This is an AR6100 conversion with BL main and tail (2 ESC). It is extremely powerful and can manuaver in 10 MPH wind. This is like flying first class, cost about $200. To fly business class with BL tail and use existing 4in1, there is a $60 solution including BL Losi motor, ESC and TheSteve converter. It will completely eliminate the stock tail motor problem.

UPDATE

Got my wooden FP blades and will hopefully get to install a pair tonight. Can't wait to see how they fly...

I think that's a fantastic idea. I do, however, have to install them first!

Had to pick them up at the post office this morning it's hard to drive to work and unwrap new heli blades at the same time

[EDIT:]
I had to try this for you Ron:
