what is a good pinion press?

I used my bench vise - worked quite well. Just gotta mak sure you keep the motor STRAIGHT or you can bend the shaft.

Actually on BL motor, it is difficult to mess it up. There is no diode and you can switch any two of the 3 wires and reverse the motor. The BL motor is only $16 on Hobbycity.com

That's a great deal, but remember you will still need a brushless ESC, and also a brushed-to-brushless converter. All told, it may cost $70 or more to go brushless. I did, and that's what I am using now. Next step is a brushless tail motor

BL Converter is $17 shipped on TheSteve site and ESC is $15 shipped on Ebay. So everything all together including BL motor to convert to BL main including shipping is $53. BL tail conversion is a little more because of the smaller expensive BL motor. I have all the links if anyone is interested.

Interesting viewpoint. I already have a 7ch Tx/Rx, gyro, and servo for the tail if I go that route. I haven't crashed in a couple weeks now, especially since I installed the woodies.

Still have some decision-making to do lol

Belt drive tail fit you like a glove. You got most of the electronics already. I am sure you are having a blast with the belt drive which is much more responsive than BL tail. Unfortunately it is too expensive for most who has to buy all kinds of electronics for a belt conversion. With the Brush to BL converter you are keeping the 4in1 which means you don't have to buy gyro, ESC, tail servo, Receiver. Also, sounds like you are an advanced pilot if you have not crashed for 2 weeks. It is unlikely you are going to break your belt drive tail. For an intermediate or begginer, it does not take much to break some parts on the belt tail. IMHO, if one flies a lot and keeps on burning the stock tail motor, it is just not worth the frustration and the repair work. The tail authority from a BL tail motor is unreal and you just don't know what you are missing. Again if you've the bucks or the electronics on hand like broggyr, you should fly first class. That is to change out all the electronics. My 2 cents from the many Falcon/DF4/Sabre I've converted.

Keep your 4in1 and buy only the following to convert to BL main motor. You can also purchase the dual channel converter for BL main and tail. It says for DF 4#3 but it can really be used for Falcon 40/DF 4#1/Sabre. I can show you where to connect the PPM wire to the 4in1. It is very easy to convert to BL main but harder for BL tail. If you have burn out the stock motor, IMO this is the best way to go and it should be the last motor that you will ever need. I own 9 helicopters and have not burn out a single BL motor yet. I have at least a dozen burned out brush motors.

$15 shipped

Any of 15A BL ESC. I am using a underated BL ESC Ebay item#290223387401 offered $10 and was accepted. It is only 7A but holding well.

$16.25 plus shipping. You will need to drill the stock pinion hole bigger to fit this motor shaft.

good afternoon everyone.

1. I was wanting to know. Do any of you know of any good places to buy 1N5819 diodes. I just bought 2 new slo Max 300 motors, and I would like to put New diodes on them.

I have tried radio shack, but they do not carry that specific Diode.

2. Also have any of you tried these carbon fiber blades. Im thinking about getting some since they are only 10.00 bucks

3. Have any of you seen the new art tech falcon se 3d heli.. To me it look damn good. What are ya'lls (< yes Im from Texas) thoughts about the heli. I have a Falcon 40 and honey bee king 2. And I would like to add another to the collection.

Guess I'm just old fashioned and set in my ways (and too cheap to shell out for the $40. metal core - I'm saving for a DX6i, remember?). Bet I can swap a $2.50 plastic core in 4 minutes flat by now!

I'd like to think of the plastic core as a good incentive to learning how to fly!

Dave,

I think you said you were getting cheap plastic parts from Mike at UShobbySupply. I looked at the website and it shows that these cores are $5. How do you get the discount?

Hey!

I was out of town last weekend, so I did not get a chance to try by LIPO until yesterday. It works really well!! 11.v, 1300mAh. I have all the power I need. The heli is a little heavier because I went for more power. It's about 0.6 oz heavier than with the stock battery.

On another subject, has anybody tried playing with the throws on the servos? It seems like the cyclic control is extremely sensitive and I never get anywhere near using full authority. Moving the control rods just one notch closer to the center would reduce sensitivity.

Just wondered ....

I can hover OK in dead still air but just a breath of air movement and I'm really struggling sometimes, especially in pitch. Lots of times, the bird wants to drift toward me and if I try to push it forward, it's racing away from my at high speed.

Hey Jerry -

Michael usually has 2 for 1 on plastic parts (which shows up in the cart), but this is no longer coming up... e-mail him and let us know if he is still able to do this deal.

well I have found my new favorite Falcon mod... this week I pulled the trigger on a DX6i TX for my CopterX build and took advantage of Specktrum's 'buy one get one free' on Receivers. So I got the TX and 3 RX's, one of which Michael traded me for an Eflite 3-in-1. My Falcon is now Specktrumized!

The DX6i is sweet... the digital trims and subtrims make it very easy to dial in the servos. My favorite is the 'Expo' function which makes the controls less sensitive for small stick movements. Really dampens over-corrections. And the gimbals are Smooooooth!

So now I have an extra Falcon TX / RX if anyone is in need. Shoot me a PM.
